ActionScript 3.0 :: UiLoader .swf Larger Than Base .swf?

Jan 18, 2011

I have opted to use the UILoader component to load external .swf's of my images. The problems I am running into are that: one, the UIloader does not seem to be loading at all some of the time

and two, I cannot have a UILoader that is larger than the dimensions I am loading the image into.

For the first problem, is there a way to put a progress bar that specifically targets the UIloader so I can make sure that it is actually loading? I've been looking for a tutorial for this, but have yet to find one that explains the code and what it does, making it difficult to customize.

For the second problem, is there any workaround for this, or are the dimensions of the loaded .swf limited to the dimensions of the base .swf?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Convert From Base 10 To 16 And Then Base 16 To 36.?

May 17, 2007

Its been a while since i touched flash, which is funny considering i started my web/development career here.Anyway, in PHP there is a nice little function called base_convert (http:url....) which will take any number in any base (e.g. base 10, decimal) and convert it to any base (e.g. base 16, hex).So base_convert (15, 10, 16) will output F, which is convenient.I am wondering, as i cannot seem to find, if there is any similar function in actionscript. I am trying to convert from base 10 to 16 and then base 16 to 36.

IDE :: Thumbnail To Larger Pic Display?

Nov 28, 2009

I am in desperate need of some assistance (again). I have created some thumbnail images (as buttons) that need to open to larger images once clicked.

Currently I have it set up to open a new browser window but this is not what I want.

Herewith existing code:
thumb1.addEventListener( MouseEvent.CLICK, goto_thumb1 );
function goto_thumb1(e:MouseEvent):void
{
navigateToURL( new URLRequest( "thumb1.swf" ), "_blank" );
}

I need the larger pic display to be restrained to the size 600x400 and preferably to load in front to the main website (like a popup).

Larger Flash Movie Than Browser?

Mar 30, 2011

Anyway, I have a 2037px wide flash movie that I purposely made that wide so that it would take up just about any screen.

What I'm trying to do is simply center it and basically hide the overflow on smaller screens when the movie appears on the end user's monitor. I can't get it to center, however, as it always just wants to align to the left. I don't want to use the 100% feature because that distorts the movie.

I've tried using the "overflow: hidden; text-align: center;" CSS feature, to no avail. Is there a way in CSS to make this work? Do I need to use javascript or something? If so, which script do I use?

Professional :: Why Is Stage Larger Than .fla Dimensions

May 12, 2010

The more I work with this program, the more weird stuff I encounter.  I set up my .fla file as 700 x 400.  I've been putting stuff on the stage and adding tweens, then when I test the movie, part of the stage image is cut off.  I turned on the ruler, and found that the top of my stage is aligned at X 0.00 and Y -44.50.  I drew a box the size of the entire stage, and its position is X 0.00 and Y -44.50, and the dimensions are 700 x 469.  Can anyone tell me why my stage is larger than 700 x 400, and how to get the top left corner of the stage to be aligned at X 0.00 and Y 0.00?

Flash CS4 :: Outputs Larger Swfs Than CS3?

May 7, 2009

I'm working on a web banner campaign, which as you probably know involves strict file size limits -- an extra 1 or 2k here or there can mean the difference between an ad being accepted or rejected by publishers. What I've been finding is that that files published from Flash CS4 are about 10% bigger than the exact same documents published via Flash CS3. Is this a documented bug with Flash CS4? Is it just not ready for primetime, as far as producing banners goes? I'm using AS 2.0, targeting Flash Player 8; I've deselected the option to include XMP metadata, and checked the Compress Movie checkbox. Using the new (slightly awkward) Motion Tweens or using the old-style Classic Tweens doesn't seem to make a difference.

One interesting tidbit: I'm using TweenLite and one easing class, which should add around 5k to my file. However, in CS4, the size report says that I've got 17k of ActionScript classes included. What's weird about that is that if I comment out the import statements, size report now says I have 5k of ActionScript 2.0 classes - but my file size doesn't drop by a corresponding amount (it only decreases by about 5k). Very odd.

IDE :: Making The CS3 Checkbox Component Larger?

Relative newcomer to Flash, and I have (what should be) a simple question: how does one go about making the CS3 checkbox component larger? I'm not talking about the bounding box (checkbox + label); I'm talking about the checkbox itself. I've looked all over the place, and I'm stunned that this doesn't appear to be as easy as I thought.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Sprite Is Larger Than Its Children?

Feb 2, 2011

I have sprites with dynamically created children: combo-boxes, buttons, and textfields. The number of children is variable and they're positioned vertically one under the other. If a sprite contains textfields only, its height corresponds to the joint height of all children + the spaces between them. In the case of sprites containing combo-boxes and buttons however, the sprite height is larger.

I may be on the wrong track here, but it seems that what is responsible is the object bounds. E.g. if my button height is 25 and getBounds returns 100, the sprite's height is larger by 75 pixels.The sprites are loaded into a scroll-pane, and depending on their size, the vertical bar is visible (or not). Obviously the above results in situations where a scroll-bar appears even though the entire contents of the sprite is visible, or one scrolls down to an empty space...Is there a way around this problem? Can object bounds be re-sized as well or can I overwrite this '100' value somewhere in Flash itself?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Navigate An Image That Is Larger Than The Stage?

Feb 11, 2010

I would like to have an image much larger than the stage, with little buttons all over it that play a MC when moused over. When the mouse reaches the edge of the screen, I want it to scroll so that the viewer can explore the whole image. In short, its a map with destinations, and on mouse over the destinations play a MC. I'd like the viewer to be able to "explore" the map with the mouse. It seems simple, is there a good way to do it?

Also, once it is done, is there a way to begin with the entire image shown, but then have it tween to its final (Very large) size, without breaking that functionality.

Professional :: Encoding For FLV Results In 10x Larger File CS5 Vs CS4

Oct 1, 2010

I've recently upgraded to CS5 and the Media Encoder creates incredibly HUGE files compared to the CS4 media encoder.

For example, I can convert a 15MB mpg file to a 12 MB flv file in CS4 using the preset  "FLV same as source"

I do not find a matching preset in CS5, but tried "FLV - match source atributes (medium quality)"  Encoding the same file in CS5 with this preset results in 170MB file.

I've tried adjusting the settings, comparing the options in both versions, and I still can't get a reasonably sized file out of the CS5 media encoder.

This seems really broken to me.  A 170 MB file is not useful in any way.  Do I have bad presets?

Adobe Media Encoder version is 5.0.1.0  (32-bit)

Am I wrong in thinking:

Video encoded at 1280x960 and displayed at this size will look better than video encoded at 448x336 and enlarged to 1280x960; andThere will be minimal difference between video encoded at 1280x960 (and shrunk to 448x336) and video encoded at 448x336.

Asp.net :: Programmatically Upload Larger Files In Flex?

Mar 10, 2010

I created an application as part of an ASP.NET site. I would like to receive error notifications in my inbox whenever something goes wrong with that flash application.As I do not have control over our mail server (which has a different domain name), I cannot establish a cross domain policy allowing me to send error emails to my inbox.Instead, thought I'd send a request to an ASP.NET handler that sends an email on behalf of the flash app.Now the problem: the error report should include a screenshot of the flash application at the time the error occurred. The FileReference class however only allows file uploads with user interaction (browse dialog) and cannot be used programmatically to send the screenshot to my ASP.NET handler. The plain old POST back only allows files up to ~200K.

Actionscript 3 :: Merging MovieClips Into A Larger MovieClip

One FLA, let's name "Animation.fla", consists of a 1-frame animation with a class assigned to its main stage, let's label it "MainStage.cs." The other FLA file, label it, "Navigator.fla", consists of 3 frames where I have to navigate different frames to get to the animation on the Animation.fla.

I have tried nesting the two but I gain errors when trying to convert the whole Animation.fla to movieclip and put it on the frame of the Navigator.fla. It's seems it's not the correct way to do it.

Flex :: Upload File Larger Than 100MB?

Jan 31, 2011

I want to upload larger than 100 MB local file and then send it to remove Java server.

I got these possible alternatives:

Use FileReference Flex class, which is not recommended for files larger than 100Mb, and hope that the application will not crash. Slice the given file to small parts, then send them. For me, this seems pretty harsh decision.

The question: Are there some Flex library which allows sending larger files than 100Mb?

If the answer is NOT, are there some 3rd party libraries for the same thing?

If not, are there some 3rd party libraries for 'slicing' files and sending them asynchronously to server?

EDIT: If I sliced the file to parts, how large they are supposed to be (for proper hash check)?

Actionscript 3 :: Substitute Image In Larger Animation?

Mar 4, 2011

We're making a Flash browser game with a few reasonably complex animations. Our designer is making the animations in Flash Professional while I'm wiring everything up and adding some logic through AS3 (using FlashDevelop).In one of our more complex animations a "bonus item" moves around the screen. It tweens hither and tither, there special effects and as such, it disappears for a few frames and then reappears later.From AS3 we want to be able to dynamically decide which bonus item (say a mushroom or a star) to include in the animation. We don't want to have to ask our designer to replicate the entire animation for each of our bonus items.This is what we've tried: Created a two frame (1 mushroom frame, 1 star frame) "BonusItem" movieclip in FlashPro and Exported for ActionScript.Created the complex animation movieclip in FlashPro and added the BonusItem movieclip to the relevant frames. Gave the BonusItem instance an instance name on all necessary KeyFrames. Exported entire movieclip for ActionScript(exported as "ComplexAnimation").[code]This would play the complex animation with the star and we could easily call gotoAndStop("mushroom") to play the same animation with the mushroom.

The first problem was that complexAnimation.bonusItem was null on line 02 above. I solved this by handling ADDED_TO_STAGE for complexAnimation and putting line 02 above in the handler. The next problem was that each time the bonusItem movieclip started tweening, or if it was not present in some frames and was subsequently re-added the complexAnimation.bonusItem attribute/reference was reassigned to a new bonusItem instance. I then had to find a way to know when this was happening and call gotoAndStop("star") on the new instance. I've found two ways to do this:

1) Listen for ADDED events on complexAnimation with a target.name of "bonusItem". It's a bit crap in a strongly typed language to have to resort to matching strings, but this works. Btw, when the ADDED event is fired new frame object references are still null.

2) Listen for FRAME_CREATED events. This happens later than ADDED at a point where new frame references have been initialized. As such I can check if complexAnimation.bonusItem is non-null at then call gotoAndStop("star") on it. One problem with this is that calling gotoAndStop actually triggers another FRAME_CREATED event to fire, so I need to guard against infinite looping. Again, it works but I don't have a great feeling about it.
