ActionScript 3.0 :: Variable/Array Inside A Hit Test
Oct 22, 2009
I have three randomly moving movie clips and one keyboard controlled movie clip which is meant to avoid the tree random flying clips.
I want to do a hit test that basically will do something if anyone of the 3 random clips hit the keyboard controlled clip.
in the hit test i want to be able to have this work for any of the three random clips (flying pumpkins with different instance names, pumpkin1 pumpkin2 pumpkin3). This is all done on an external document class.
I thought about an array but I have no idea really
I want to display variable myblock down 10 times and then test it for collison, I am using the variable I to store the blocks, If I manally set the variable i to lets say 1 and 2 and then test for collison it works, but when I use I from the for loop it only detects one object from the array, I think that there is something probably simple missing such as an extra variable, as you can see from the code I am trying to use the' i' to replace for instance addChild(blockarray[1]);
I'm doing a little weather web app in flash.So i read an xml feed and copose an array of data from it.[code]Now what i would like to do is to find and trace the entry in mydate array which have a a value that approach the most to "currenthour" variable (which is my current time i'm getting upper).For exemple if currenthour = 11.In the case that i have myhour array equal to 5 , 10 , 14 , 20.The best match will be myhour[1].
I am trying to create a dialogue system for a game that references lines of dialogue to be displayed from an array.Example:
var myArray:Array = new Array("My name is David.","I am a noob at actionscript.");
This all works fine, but what I really want to do is have the name "David" be a variable so that the user can change. The issue is that the array seems to convert any string variables into their string value so when they are referenced they only appear as the initial value of the variable.
Example: var myName:String = "Empty"; var myArray:Array = new Array("My name is "+myName+".","I am a noob at actionscript."); //user does something to change the variable myName
[code]....
Output: My name is Empty.,I am a noob at actionscript.When what I want is for it to say: My name is Jones.
we have this variable from the internet, val(0), in a dynamic text field we can see a digit from this variable. but when we use this variable in actionscript and test it with trace, the variable shows as undefined.how can we make this work without it coming up as undefined??
I'm trying to test of a point is inside of a Quadrilateral, as defined by four points.I found some script on another site in another language and tried converting it, but I doesn't seem to work. It might be that I don't understand what their "sign()" method does. I thought it was Math.sin().
I have probably posted this a few times now. I am using the tutorial at www dot flashgametuts dot com/tutorials/as3/how-to-create-a-platform-game-in-as3-part-7/ and I would really like to know how to have a sound play when the character collects a coin. This is a tile-based game where the "coin" objects are represented by the number "7" in an array, which is the level map.
I'm trying to set up a test that will tell me whether a variable exists in memory or not. I'm running into the problem of my nested function preserving the local variable it uses, called "shouldBeDead". Here's my best effort, which doesn't work for me because the "shouldBeDead" variable is still alive[code]...
i have an array that i basically load from a csv file. i have a function below that test every number for the value if is a number.[code]the problem im having is that when it reads the array is reading ",15" instead off "15" how do i remove a character from an array ? i dont want to remove the whole element just a character.
Using php to declare a few Flashvars. No problems - they all arrive and behave. One of these populates a dynamic text field inside an MC. Simple enough stuff right? But.... when I try to test equality on that text field I get nothing. I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of. The MC is called "fake2". The text field inside it has a variable name of "choice_dyna" and an instance name of "fd2".
Is there a way to test a string, such as the one below to see if it's an actual number value? var theStr:String = '05'; I want to differentiate between the string value above and one such as this: var theStr2:String = 'asdfl';
i have a for loop which increments a variable 'i' and then adds this variable to a string called 'test' like so..[code]however this does not work, it wont seem to add the variable 'i' when i trace (test). All i get is undefined?
On the PHP site it was advised to do for loops in a certain way that I have not seen on any recommendations for AS3. I think I found about a 10 times speed increase and I thought I better check that I was not missing something (?) before going through my code and changing it. Very simple and fairly self explanatory (in the faster one the array.length is not calculated every time I think):
Code: import flash.utils.getTimer; var time:Number; var myarray:Array = new Array(); myarray.length=2000000; time=getTimer(); [Code] .....
Well I know I should probably know this, but I don't I need to know is there some kind of isIn for an array. To test if an item is an element in an array. I just cant remeber what it is.
I want to check if my character is hitting any of the items in an array (true) and if he isn't (false). right now the boolean is in a for loop so it returns one "true" and multiple "false" statements each time the program updates. I just want one return, true if the character is hitting a movie clip in the array, and false if he isn't.
I'm working with arrays again and i have a question for the smart I have an array with 10 references to a movie clip in my library and a timer that add one of these movie clips to the stage every second (Without removing them from the array). When the movie clips are added to the stage they will be touching another movie clip that has an instancename. I want to perform a hit test between the movie clip on the stage and the added movie clips from my array that will lead to some actions.
My question is: Is it possible to hit test the movieclips in the array with the movieclip on the stage with a few simple lines of code? I'd hate to have to give each of them an instance name. I know this is what classes are for but i really hoped i could avoide using them for this project ( stupid classes!) I'm looking for something like this in code: if any movieclip in my array hit test a specific movieclip on stage
I'm going to post the full code of the two functions, disregard the "fluff" unrelated to the two functions as it is all working flawless, I've tested this HEAVILY and cannot understand why it keeps setting the entire array to undefined!
Code: // processReplace Function function processReplace(transferFiles) { var processArray:Array = transferFiles.slice();
[Code]....
Basically it's supposed to check to see if the file exists and return as true if it does and add it to a replace array, then the replace array is processed into a single string and put into a dialog box through the flash wrapper prompting them to "replace the files or not".
It makes the replace array just fine, it actually even has the right "count" in it but it's setting all the "filenames" to undefined because of the exists = processSearch function.
I even tried to make a new array and run the search just from that one and set the values from the old one and it's still failing.
Is it because of the "break" or can anyone figure it out? Iknow it's hard because you can't use the code
how I can access array data inside of an mc from the main timeline.. I am hoping to get into an array called children, which is inside of an mc, which itself is inside of an array called mcs.
Here is what I am trying to get to: mcs[m].children[0];
