Actionscript 3 :: Modify Position Of Children Inside Loop?

Mar 3, 2010

I'm trying to make a dynamic image gallery from and xml. From my tutorials, right now i've got it so it will constantly add the next thumbnail below the other, which is fine, but I'm trying to figure out how to make it that once it reaches a certain y coordinate, it will move the x coordinate over and stack them again. So that rather one long list of thumbs, it will be a side by side stack. For some reason, I can't get it in my head how something like this would work. My goal is to have a side by side stack that I will end up putting in a movie clip that will be masked to show only 2 stacks at a time. Then when clicking a button will slide it over. I was planning to use the "movieclip.length" to calculate how far over to move it, but i haven't gotten that far yet. This is what I got:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Controlling Multiple Children Created In For Loop?

Nov 15, 2011

So I'm working on a Flash version of the old "Robots!" game. In case you're not familiar: the game lays out a number of robots on a grid (number varies by level), and drops the player in the middle. As the player moves around the grid, the robots all move towards the player one grid space per player move. The object is to destroy all the robots by making them run into each other (or the rubble left from previous collisions) without letting a robot run into you.

Anyway, my robot hordes are being created on the stage through a "for" loop, and each icon is a child of variable "evilBot" which references a library item with the class name "enemy."

ActionScript Code:
function placeBots():void{
for (var c = 0; c < numBots; c++){
evilBot = new enemy;

[Code]....

I've run a trace on "evilBot.name" and verified that the children are being given instance names of "evilBot0, evilBot1 ..." and so on. But no matter what I try, I can't issue instructions (regarding movement, orientation, etc) to individual children.

Using a for loop and "this["evilBot" + x]" returns a "term is undefined" error.

If I store the instance names in an array (named "botName") and use "evilBot.name[botName[x]]", I get the error "Property evilBot0 not found on String and there is no default value."

ActionScript 2.0 :: Find A Function That Will Repeat Rotational Tween Function

Aug 8, 2007

I'm trying to find a function that will repeat my Rotational tween function. I found the yoyo() function to be what i want to do but i don't want the tween to change the rotation to CCW while originally moving CW. Basically i want the animation to move CW at a steady rate continuously.

I'm using the following code at the moment, i'm not too sure if this is the most suitable code for this situation, maybe im off track.

From my thoughts, i assumed that i would need to put the stars function in a onEnterFrame to repeat the animation and change yoyo() to continueTo() function. or maybe some sort of if statement in the stars function?

ActionScript Code:
import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;
var stars:Tween = new Tween(ring, "_rotation", Regular.easeInOut, 0, 360, 4, true);

IDE :: Can't Loop Music And Tween

May 25, 2009

when I create a new Tween/Graphic symbol it turns into an old tween I already used (Ex: Two tweens, when trying to use the second one it reverts back to the first one). Both of them are on the same layer called "Text", also it seems to be fixed when I put the second tween on a new layer. But if I do this I will have at least a good 50 layers of text :S.

Second problem is I want my background music to loop throughout the whole video, my project has multiple scenes and I am baffled as to how to make the music play throughout.

EDIT: my project has to be 45 seconds and the music loop I'm using is about 17 seconds.

ActionScript 3 :: Remove All Children Function In Flash

Feb 22, 2011

Isn't there a simple "remove all children" function in flash? I don't understand why this code isn't working. I add children via:
for (var i in project_array[cp].project_type_clips){
container.header.type_loader.addChildAt(project_array[cp].project_type_clips[i],i);
loadCount++
}

And then remove them via:
for (var i in project_array[cp].project_type_clips){
container.header.type_loader.removeChildAt(i);
}

But I get an error that the supplied index is out of bounds, and yet one clip is still left on stage. Likewise, if I try to add them without levels, like this:
for (var i in project_array[cp].project_type_clips){
container.header.type_loader.addChild(project_array[cp].project_type_clips[i]);
loadCount++
}

And remove:
for (var i in project_array[cp].project_type_clips){
container.header.type_loader.removeChild(project_array[cp].project_type_clips[i]);
}
I get the same error.

Flex Get Height Of Children When To Call Function?

Jun 8, 2009

I have a function I wrote that gets the height of the application without scrolling. Meaning the height it would need to be to not have to scroll.

[Code]...

This function works well but the problem is knowing when to call it. I planned on calling it after I add/remove any children from it. However thats still too soon because I don't get the correct height yet if I run it then. The fix I currently have is using a Timer to call the function about 300 milliseconds after a child is added/removed which seems to work well but I think this is a very risky fix. So I was wondering a better solution. I am thinking there has to be some sort of event I can listen for that will tell me when its ready for me to run this function, I just don't know what event that would be?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Tween Image From XML In Sequence Loop?

Sep 24, 2009

The following Actionscript loads an XML file. Using the XML file, it loads an image - fades in the image - pans the image - and then fades out. I have then attempted to make a loop which loads the next image from the XML file and perform the same series of tweens. It would then load the next image, infinite loop. It appears that instead of loading each image one at a time, it is overlapping the mask with all images in the XML file. I then only see the last image in the XML file being tweened on the stage/mask. I do not believe that I can use a Timer to time the loading of each image. This is because the width of each image will be different so the duration of the pan from one loaded image to the next will be different. I believe that I need to use onMotionFinish in some manner after the image Fades Out in order to move to load the next image - but I can't seem to identify how to integrate that within the loop. Most likely my loop is not written correctly. [code]...
