ActionScript 3.0 :: Add Event Listener To Multiple Dynamically Created Objects?

Apr 17, 2009

So I have an object, generated on each click of the mouse. It's set up as a series of points with properties, with values for position randomly calculated, and set around where the user clicks the mouse. Lines are drawn from where the mouse is clicked out to each of these points, so it kind of looks like a star, but only lines, rather than a solid shape (like those old 50's atom clocks?). So once clicked there's an enter frame event listener on the object so that each of the points 'wobble' (using a randomly generated number) up and down around the original point.

For some reason, I can either set it so that on each new click of the mouse and newly generated object, the last one stops "wobbling" and only the new one does, or each new object moves to where the new object is, and maybe is still wobbling(?), but is underneath the new object. This way has the event.target as a new object in the wobble function, so I think it may be just a case of where the centre point is - i.e. saving the mouse x and y for each object individually, or perhaps I have too much of the setup function code repeated in my "wobble"function?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Removing Dynamically Created Event Listener?

I've dynamically created event listeners in the usual sort of way:

Code:
myText.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, hover(nameLabel));
function hover(nameLabel):Function

[Code].....

The problem is how to remove the event listener later in the program as the usual code isn't working. I'm guessing I should have done this in a class but I'd like to understand this problem better.

Actionscript 3 :: Use The Same Event-listener Callback For Multiple Event Types?

Nov 18, 2011

This might be more of a subjective question, but is it generally best practice to have one dedicated method per event-types that you add an event-listener?

Such as:

myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, onMouseOver);
myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, onMouseOut);
//Somewhere else in the code...

[Code].....

And if you had a MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN and other relevant MouseEvents event-listeners to watch for, you could even set a switch statement to handle all the various MouseEvent types.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Add An Event Listener On Objects 1, 2, And 3?

Jan 14, 2011

I have been stumbling on Events - specifically, broadcasting the events across different objects.

I want to be able to add an event listener on objects 1, 2, and 3; then, have object 4 dispatch one event type and have objects 1-3 correctly hear it and act.

For example, consider the following:

//this is my custom class
package RedCirclePackage
{

[Code].....

It works, and I get 3 Alert messages. Now, I understand that dispatching an event to a specific object will work (and thats why using the three lines of code above works), but I want to dispatch a general "foo" event using one line of code and give the ability for all objects to key off that "foo" call and not one specific object.

Is it possible to dispatch a general "foo" event and have ALL objects able to receive the call, or am I stuck with dispatching events for every specific object I want to receive it?

If objects are created dynamically in AS3, using code like this:

for (var num:Number = 0; num<10; num++){
var txtFld:TextField = new TextField();
txtFld.text = 'This is the original text';
this.addChild(txtFld);
}

then later, i want to changet the text of one of the TextFields, how can I do that? The only instance listed in the variables is a single instance of "txtFld" and it is the last one that is created. How can I access the others?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Key.removeListener() - Multiple Key Listener Objects?

Feb 12, 2008

I have a problem with deleting previous Key listeners. I am building a "portfolio menu" class that creates a menu where you should be able to navigate up and down theough the keyboard keys UP and DOWN. So far so good. On my site I also have a main menu from where I launch my "portfolio menu". In that main menu I also have other main sections like for example "Contact".

The first time I launch the "portfolio menu" it works perfect but if I go to for example "Contact" the porfolio class creates a second key listener object and it makes the menu to jump more steps than it should.

how to use Key.removeListener(myKeyListenerObject)???

i have 2 layers, called typer layer and plain layer... on the plain layer i have drawn out a shape... like a circle for instance.... if plain layer is on top of typer layer everything works fine. if plain layer is below typer layer the typer does not type.... it doesnt even show up. at present the dynamically created text field into which the typing text will be put into has a depth equivalent to that of a guide inside the component (just a plain mc used for determining sizes etc nothing special) +1 i added 1 to its current depth because if i dont i only seem to get EITHER the circle OR the typer.... whereas if i add 1, i get EITHER the typer AND the circle OR just the circle..but this doesnt make sense does it? i mean if the typer layer is on top then it has a higher depth (ie. closer to zero as depths are currently in the negatives still ) so if i add 1 it shouldnt conflict with anything and i should get it typing and displaying the circle surely?and if it is below then the circle has a higher depth so in this respect if the typer wouldnt work when it is on the bottom i could understand this as the depths would be conflicting and as such the dynamically created text field couldnt be created in the first place because the depth level is already occupied....

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Added Event Listener?

Aug 29, 2010

I'll present my problem in a few steps:

- I have a constructor method which is trigerred automatically once the program starts
- The method's argument determines whether or not an enter frame event is to be added(move:Boolean = true)
- If true, add the event listener
- there are getters and setters created to access the variables from another class

The problem is that the event listener is run only once - at the initial phase, so it checks the move's value just once (true - add, false - don't add), so it can be turned on and off only in this class. I want to allow a user to change its value from an external class, which is impossible even with getters and setters, because it adds the listener before the user even gets a chance to change it. I want the listener to be added only if the user wants it to. I know it looks complicated,

ActionScript 2.0 :: Event Handlers For Dynamically Created Mc's?

Sep 27, 2005

trying to create a menu dynamically from an array. I know there is a way to circumnavigate the issues i am having by making another array with linkNames in it (i think), but im trying to understand why this isnt working. Check this out.

Code:
var playerArray:Array = ["THIERY","FIGO", "RONALDINO", "WAYNE"];
var contents:MovieClip = this.createEmptyMovieClip("contents", this.getNextHighestDepth());[code]....

'currItem.currVar', in my eyes, should be assigned the value of 'i' at that time in the loop, then move on to the next currItem right? Tracing 'currItem' traces 'menuItem. menuItem'+i to the output window fine, so im assuming that currItem is indeed a reference to a unique clip to which assign an action. The catch is, its not assigning the action I want, its assigning the value of 'i' at the end of the loop to all currVar's.I recently read a post explaining this conumdrum, stating that "variables are not "burnt" into functions when they are placed there. They will reflect the variable, where ever it may exist at the time it was requested, not at the time the function using that variable was defined," but in this case,since I am assigning the value of 'i' to anothing variable inside my dynamic movieClip.

For example, in the code below I have my instance name "btnCA" which is on my movie clip. It works great and there are no issues with this code, but I need to add more buttons. ActionScript 3.0 :: Multiple Variables For Event Listener?

Aug 28, 2011

I have been focusing on PHP a lot lately and just had a client that requires an MP3 player playing multiple songs so I had to whip out my rusty actionscript skills.  I have the player completed and it is working as desired.  The down side is it has multiple songs.  I am using separate functions for each song and separate event listeners.  My main question is there a way to combine these funtions into one and just use the event listener to pass another variable to the functions?  Below is a sample of one of the code for Song1.  I would like to make it so anywhere there is Song1 in the code, I can make it a variable so I can put in for example (Song2, Song3, Song4, etc.)  This way, I can have one or two functions handle all the songs instead of having to copy, paste and then find and replace.

// Song 1
var Song1:Sound = new Sound();
pbSong1.source = Song1;
//pbSong1.visible = false;
var Song1Loaded:Boolean = false;

ActionScript 2.0 :: [FMX2004] Setting Event Handler For Dynamically Created Buttons

May 23, 2005

I'm using Flash Remoting to grab a result set from a SQL Server database. Then, using the total records in the result set, I'm creating the respective number of movie clips on the stage. Each of these movie clips is an instance of the "button_mc" movie clip I have in the library, named "button_0", "button_1", ..."button_n". The library movie clip that I'm using to create the instances contains a standard Flash button.

Anyway, that part is working fine. What I want to do is dynamically generate the onRelease event handler for each of these unique buttons. When I try to do this within the for loop, it sets all the event handlers to the last item in the list. What I want to do with the event handler is change the text of a dynamic text field based on the button name.

e.g. buttonName.onRelease = function() {
myDynamicTextField.text = "button_"+i;
}

In some ways it makes sense that the event handler is always going to be the last available in the loop, as the handler is called after the loop is completed. However, I'm hoping there's a way to make the handler "stick" after the loop is completed.
