I have been working with this script for a few days now and have gotten to a near completed point, but I can't seem to script the final step. I have an xml file that is being parsed into my .fla file. There are 3 buttons which are dynamically created based on a tag called <navItem>. The function 'displayContent' should be displaying the appropriate chunk of xml in various text boxes, but instead, it only displays the last chunk (the 3rd chunk) no matter which button I click on. I'd like to know what is the difference between MouseEvent.CLICK & MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN. Because when i use MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN for a button to set full-screen view its doesn't work, instead of this MouseEvent.CLICK works. So what was the reason.

i'm attempting to implement a mouse event where Mouse_Move can only occur if Mouse_Down. i could introduce a boolean that would toggle during Mouse_Down and Mouse_Up that could work, but is there a better way, perhaps a more official way, of doing this?

Here is some code for a webpage I am building. I am using a custom document class named Vid.as for this FLA. The FLA is empty except for a button in the library and an instance of it on the stage named fieldsButton_1.When I compile the FLA i can click on the button, but nothing happens, neither the URL link nor a simple trace statement executes.

I am trying to add a simple "getURL" type of functionality to a movieclip so that when it is clicked on, the user is taken to a url. i have tried 3 or 4 different ways to do this that all work when i test the movie clip in flash. However, when i embed the swf in a webpage, the click function does not work.I created a function:

I've been searching for a solution for this problem for the best part of this day Here's my scenario,I have a swf of class a class i've called sceneHolder, it loads up an xml file and uses this to determine which external swfs to load up, the swfs are loaded up and into loader's then their contentLoaderInfo.content is addChild'ed to a movieclip in sceneHolder called myScene, they are then positioned and so on.

I am working with AS3 to build a very simple mp3 player on my site. So far the play and pause button work fine, but when I try to move the slider then click the pause button, it doesn't pause, and then clicking the play button again causes it to play a new file.I'm assuming that for some reason when I call the playMp3 function from my MouseEvent, it's within an object or something and not at the root, so it's like loading a new sound file, but I don't know how to fix that.URL...

I have 2 methods in a class and 2 properties. The first method fetchXMLData() gets data from an XML file. In the addEventListener method on the urlLoader object, I pass it a listener which tries to set the returned data to the xmlData property. However, it never sets it, and I know the data comes back because I can alert out urlLoader.data using the mx.controls.Alert component.

I currently have an AS3 fla with a couple of mouseEvent functions but now the client wants to add a KeyboardEvent as well to the same exact functions. Can I add another eventListener to that without having to create a second function? It would be a huge waste of code if I did. Here's what I currently have in truncated form:

I made a login (textfield and a button).

In order to make login using Enter button, I tried adding:

I'm working on tabs that display different carousel type galleries with previous and next buttons. So, I've got a function that is being called by these tabs and is passed an array based on which tab is selected. Inside of that function, I'm adding an eventListener to the previous and next buttons and using a callback function that works based on the number of items in the array that was passed through the function call. I was running into some strange happenings and using trace statements. Here's what I find: The first call to the function works and traces correctly. The second call traces 2 trace statements; the 3rd call traces 3 statements and so forth. So, I'm assuming that each call is adding another event listener to the buttons.
Here's a condensed version of the function in question:

Here I've got this bit of code that works alright, but I would prefer to have the parameters that are being sent through myTween.tweenMe(_text, 40, 300, 150, 100, 4000) originate instead with the call to tweenerIt. The problem seems to be that the tweenerIt function needs to receive the e:Event parameter, which is some sort of 'behind the scenes' type of thing that I don't fully understand. If I try putting ... _text.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, tweenerIt(_text, 40, 300, 150, 100, 4000) and then something like.. private function tweenerIt(param1, param2, param3, etc..., e:Event):void, it doesn't work.
