May 4, 2010How can I consume a webservice that hasn't explicitely created a crossdomain.xml? I understand it's for security and to prevent cross-site scripting, but it does seem like a major limitation to the Flex framework. For example, if I want to consume a webservice, which is suppose to be language agnostic, then I can't with Flex. The webservice/server has to be specifically prepared for Flex/Flash. If it's not, then it cannot be consumed.

Feb 16, 2009I've got a movie that i'm calling a webservice from. When I run the movie in flash it downloads the service stub and makes the SOAPCall and loads the data as you would expect. But when i upload it to a site it loads the service stub makes the SOAPCall but "Received SOAP response from network" is not called.
About the files: I load the movie in an html file using UFO. There are some external interface calls before the webservice is called but these definatley return what is required for the webservice to run because the stub does not get downloaded if they don't return anything.[code]...
Flex :: Multiple Async Webservice Call Requests?
Jul 26, 2011I am using Flex and Actionscript 3, along with Webservices, rpc and a callResponder. I want to be able to, for example, say:
loadData1(); // Loads webservice data 1
loadData2(); // Loads webservice data 2
loadData3(); // Loads webservice data 3
However, Actionscript 3 works with async events, so for every call you need to wait for the ResultEvent to trigger when it is done. So, I might want to do the next request every time an event is done. However, I am afraid that threading issues might arise, and some events might not happen at all. I don't think I'm doing a good job of explaining, so I will try to show some code:

I could ofcourse save the actions in an arraylist, but whose to say that the addToArrayList and the check if other calls are available do not mess eachother up, or just miss each other, thereby halting execution? Is there something like a volatile Arraylist?
Flex :: Check For Nil 'true' Value On XML That Is Passed Back From Webservice Call?
Sep 27, 2011I am receiving xml from a webservice call that contains a nil="true":[code]I used the Flex DataService (webservice) wizard to create the service objects for the cacheEntry component. This object will be serialized later on a different webservice call and stored in a database.I set a breakpoint on the set SystemFK method in the service object. It appears that the value passed in was an empty string!Allowing this value to be an empty string will cause problems in the webservice implementation in Java on the other side. Since the database value was null it is expecting a null in return, If I avoid setting this value, the serviceObject should send back a null which will make the database happy.How can I detect that a nil = true is present in the XML in order to avoid setting this value?

Sep 29, 2009I'm brand new to actionscript and I've decided to try and make an overhead tile scrolling game. It's been going good so far, but here is my problem:
I have the level data stored in an array, where the number represents the corresponding tile.
I have movie clips in my library called "tile_1", "tile_2", "tile_3" etc.
Anyway, what I was thinking of doing was this:
var newTileContents:("tile_"+lvlArray[i]) = new ("tile_"+lvlArray[i])();
newTile.addChild(newTileContents);
Where, if the value in the lvlArray at [i] is 2, then it will create an instance of tile_2 etc.
But I am not sure how to to type the "tile_"+lvlArray[i] bit properly.

Jan 30, 2012I'm wondering if anyone might be able to give me a general overview on the state of implementing 3d in flash. More specifically, realtime 3D rendering on the fly, for something like making a game engine.not that i'm planning to start work on any projects on the subject just now, but i'd like to know if it's worth considering some 3D work in futurethus far i've only seen two games which use 3D in flash:This one is a strange car driving game. Three things strike me right away:1. The player's car is just a wireframe, and has a very simple mesh2. All the level components are just planed, with a few exceptions3. Most of the ground parts share the same texture.
Maybe i'm reading too much into it, but to me these things suggest some pretty heavy resource limitations.The other one is: htthis is an fps, of sorts. Again some things stick out glaringly, and i'm not certain whether they're design choices or working around limitations:1. Generally low poly models, things look blocky2. low res textures too3.Fixed camera angle.it reminds me of the sort of graphical quality we had when 3D was first being introduced to mainstream PC gaming. Are these games a good representation of the kind of 3D rendering flash can currently handle? Is it possible to make things much more detailed, that can run smoothly on average hardware?

Nov 4, 2011I just discovered impure.com and was very impressed by what can be achieved in terms of visualizing data using their workspace. Although the platform is free to use, but not open source yet. This causes a few problems because the API section works with .com sites for eg. for ebay, so I cannot visualize ebay listings for regional sites such as ebay.in because the link to ebay.com is hardcoded.I searched around, but didn't find other projects that offer a similar way to work with site APIs and other data sources with the kind of user interface and detail that impure.com does in a realtime way within a browser window.This brings me to the questions:
-What technologies would be involved in creating a similar kind of project
-What are the open source tools that can help develop a fullscreen UI to render the workspace. Are there any alternatives to flash for this, and how do they compare
The goal would be to use standard python data structures, python scripts to do some processing on these data structures, scripts to gather data from csv, json and API sources such as google yahoo, wikipedia and flickr, and scripts to render graphs, tag clouds, network visualizations etc. Then bring them all together into a visual interface that supports drag drop and simple type checking.How would the python backend integrate with the UI.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash 8 - How To Extend WebService Class
Apr 24, 2006I would like to extend the WebService class in order to add a couple of functions to it. The problem is, when I use the subclass, I get the following message:

The strange thing is, if I extend the MovieClip class instead of the WebService class, everything is peachy. This makes me think there is something that I am missing, or do not know about the WebService class. The code above is the "I want to get it to load without errors" example. My reasons for extending the class go beyond adding a "foo" property. The WSDL path is to my local machine and therefore not accessible to the masses. Any WSDL should recreate the same results.
Flash Movie Consuming HTTPS WebService Connects As HTTP
Sep 20, 2010I have a Flash Movie (SWF) that is consuming a .NET WebService (located on the same domain) and in my Test environment everything works perfectly (Test env is all HTTP).
When deployed to production (All HTTPS) an issue occurs when trying to access the WebService from the Flash movie.
A new WebService object is created with the HTTPS url passed to it.
myWS = new WebService("https://mydomain/path/to/webservice")
As I watch the HTTP traffic in FireBug I can see the Flash movie making a POST request (passing along the SOAP data) as HTTP (not HTTPS as I would expect). This HTTP requests hits the firewall which forces a 302 Redirect to HTTPS. After this redirect occurs, Flash/Firefox re-sends the request to the HTTPS version of the URL, but as a GET request (thus losing all the SOAP data and making the call to the WebService invalid).
I am trying to figure out how/why a Flash WebService would call a WebService using HTTP even though I am specifically passing it a HTTPS url.

Aug 7, 2010I'm finding little info out there on using Flash and remoting services. Currently I'm starting out using AMFPHP which works pretty well for sending back simple sets of data but I'd like to send back complex query types which translate to RecordSets. I have two problems:
1) Is this the way it's currently done? PHP backend with AMFPHP for webservices so my Flash program can access it? Or should I be using a different setup?
2) How do I add the mx.remoting services in CS5? The only docs I find say to add it under Other Panels but I don't have the next area under that in CS5.

But what I want to do is, when someone types the letters for the word 'BROTHER', then it appears on the screen and it moves to the next frame. Here's the code I have atm I currently have the letters for 'BROTHER' each as a movie clip. The instance names are, RKey, OKey, etc.

What I'm looking for is a flash 6 detection script that will
1. test to see if the user has flash
2. if he has flash it will excute the flash movie
3. if he doesn't have flash, it will execute the dhtml code
I need all of this to work on one page (header.php)
I've seen scripts that will display a flash image if you have flash and a jpeg or gif if you don't...
but I haven't seen any that will execute html code (without transfering you to another page) instead of simply displaying a static image..

Mar 2, 2009I'm developing flash applications in actionscript with a simple text editor rather than the gui flash fx mx whatever-they're-called and it's working out quite well. But there is one particular feature that I don't know about how to use without such a flash-creating-application.
Is it possible to maintain some kind of a library of movieclips? (drawn with the graphics class) In such a way that you can create an instance of it without having to draw it all over again, just copy it?
right now I'm using something like this:
