View 5 RepliesNow I am working on a site where I have six buttons for a portfolio. The only way I have loaded new content to the stage was in the event handler for the button I would load a new .swf. So each button had it's own corresponding .swf. It worked fine but is this they common way this task is done?I am asking because now I will have some sub buttons for one tab in my project and I am thinking this is going to be a lot of set up to get more separate swfs made just to load per button. Made me start wondering if there was a better way.
View 5 RepliesI have a mc tracking as a button with a working on(release) statement. Within the on release statement is this code that doesn't work for me:
_root.playbtn.pause_mc._visible = true;
_root.playbtn.play_mc._visible = true;
The first layer of the button has a mc with instance called play_mc
And the second layer of the button with a mc instance called pause_mc
The button instance on the stage is called playbtn.
My Flash animation is basically similar to this link provided by Adobe Developers.The Flash is about star moving in depth space to makes the star looks alike in 3D.I am going to implement the button to change the color of that object (star).I'm creating 3 new symbols and draw each a rounded-square button filled with red, green and blue respectively.So, I wish to click that button when running, and when I select red button, the star will changing to red color for all.
View 1 RepliesI've seen a tutorial for changing the background inside of flash based on buttons to click. However, these colors were palettes and not of backgrounds such as jpeg. What I'd like to do is to create 3 buttons and place them on my flash website. These three buttons allow the user to click on them thus changing the background. So if you're visiting the about page and click one of these buttons, I don't want the user to go back to the home page after clicking.
View 1 RepliesI have drawn intersecting lines. The user can click on a region inside the angle formed by the two lines.When the user clicks inside the area, the small region formed by the arc between the two lines showing the angle should change. How can I do that.the region between the intersecting lines is sprite object to dispatch event listener, but the arc is shape object.
View 1 RepliesI'll try to be brief. I've built a teleprompter projector file app in Flash CS4 and it works great on PCs & MACs. Only one bug. the program works in three phases: Welcome & instruction screen / Text input screen / Prompter screen.Problem occurs when you first enter prompt screen
basic navigation and functionality includes:
BUTTONS: button to return to INPUT screen, a BEGIN button, a MIRROR text button, and a SAVE prompting position KEYBOARD: SPACE begin prompting, LEFT & RIGHT ARROW increase & decrease font size, UP & DOWN ARROW increase & decrease scrolling speed, HOME returns script to top, PAGE UP & PAGE DOWN moves script by 600 pixels.
MOUSE: MOUSE_WHEEL increases and decreases scrolling speed *(would like to add a ctrlKey modifier to change font size on mouse wheel - another day perhaps)
THE PROBLEM: When you enter the prompt screen and hit PAGE DOWN the script correctly moves down 600 pixels, but does not redraw on the stage. If you then hit PAGE UP it correctly moves up and the text is back on the stage. Hit PAGE DOWN again and it moves but does not render. You can repeat this continuously. I have a Y position reference that shows the Y coordinates of the text field, so I'm confident that the MC is correctly moving, it's just not rendering. If you hit PAGE DOWN and hit BEGIN the text renders in the correct place. Once you start the prompter, you can stop it and use PAGE DOWN and it renders correctly, but if you change the font size larger > 100 and hit PAGE DOWN the font again does not render. Again if you hit BEGIN the font renders correctly in the correct position.
WHAT I THINK: I've been trying to find a way to update or refresh the text field that is being manipulated on PAGE DOWN and font increase; no luck with updateAfterEvent or redraw. I've tried to start and stop the prompter programmatically in one frame at the end of the PAGE DOWN function & font increase.
POSSIBILITIES OR NEW STRATEGY? I'm a media production specialist with a school district in Florida, and I'm hoping to release this app to all our schools and to sourceforge.net. It's a small bug, but I'd rather not have to explain it if I can find a way to fix it. The following code block only contains the functions related to the navigation and prompter text box manipulation.
//Begin button toggle code.Toggle between begin and stop.startBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, startOver);function startOver(e:MouseEvent)[code].....
A Visual Basic & ASP.NET programmer I work with looked at the bug with me, and he believes the error is somehow related to the actual CLICK of the BEGIN button. As I noted earlier, we tried a workaround by using code to start and stop the prompter in one frame after the font size change, but that did not correct the issue. Yet when you physically click begin with the mouse it renders the text.What is it about clicking the mouse that causes the text box to render? Is it a focus issue? Like the keyboard has focus, but when you click BEGIN it returns focus to the text box and it redraws then?
I need to change one variable at the click of a button the problem is that when I enter the first frame i declared a _global var _global.conteudo =null;
In the second frame:
this equal a _global to :
_global.conteudo = "enterprise.swf";
But when I click a button , i need change my _global var for example:
on (release){_global.conteudo="my variable declared";}
I this code a setup a button that calls a url request from another variable and that works fine:
var venue_www:String = "http://www....1";
var venue_url:URLRequest = new URLRequest(venue_www);
function venue_Click(event:MouseEvent):void {
navigateToURL(venue_url);
vInfo.highlight1.alpha = 1;
} vInfo.venue.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, venue_Click);
But later on I have a function that changes the venue_www variable among other details. But my button won't update with the new url variable. I've actually also already removed the event listener and re-added it through the script, for whatever its worth.
function setInfo1() {// one for each venue
if (currentVenue=="ATL") {
venue_www = "http://www.....2";
}}
I want to change a variable when a button is pressed. lingo: if this button is pressed then check varexample what number it has if it has a number then gotoAndPlay("example") and add 1 to varexample else, do nothing I'm sure if I get this kind of example down, I'll be able to figure the rest out by myself. =S
View 5 RepliesI would like to make a dynamic button on a website I am working on. I would like one button to update a variable, and another set of buttons to add 1 or subtract one from the variable I have buttons on the left side of the page for some bands that load conent into an empty movie clip.
The website: [URL]
I would like to set up some forward and backward arrows above that content on the right, so users can also scroll through the content in order. So if someone loads the content for soul asylum, and click the back arrow, it goes back to the Wailers, and if they click the forward arrow, it goes to Swollen Members. So there is an order of pages: 1. Wailers, 2. Soul Asylum, 3. Swollen Members, 4. Passafire, 5. Beats Antique, 6. SFM Kind of an order of importance. The idea is if somebody starts by clicking #3 Swollen Members, my application will know that it is on #3 and the arrows will go to #2 or #4.
Is there a way for the main artist buttons on the left to reset a variable for the current slide? So if someone clicks on the Swollen Members picture button, a variable called currentselection equals 3 And then when the forward arrow is clicked, it will ad 1 to the current selection and load movie #4
So in VB the main Swollen Members button would be something like: im currentselection as int = 3 Which would reset the current page as 3
Then the forward arrow would have code like:
Dim Nextselection as Int
Nextselection = & currentselection +1 & ".swf"
And the button in flash would be something like:
on (release) {
loadMovie("Nextselection", "rightcontent_MC")}
Which would load 4.swf the slide for passafire.
So how would I do this in action script 2.0?
i have to generate a button dynamically... and have to keep a click handler for the same how to write script for clicking buttonim using following code for creating button dynamically
var btn:Button = new Button;
btn.label = "Print";
I have many buttons (symbols). This is what I want it to do: -Select a button on the screen, and then a movieclip plays. - If the user selects any OTHER button on screen, a message box displays a message.

I'm having trouble with a custom mouse cursor. In my script I replace the original mouse with a movie clip called hand like so:
Mouse.hide();
hand.x = stage.mouseX;
hand.y = stage.mouseY;
But when I go to click on something it uses the mouse's pointer still. I'd like to be able to drag with any part of my custom cursor(which is larger than a mouse).I've tried making a hit box that detects when the mouse is near the clip but it doesn't work onsistently(sometimes it just clicks like normal).Is there to make the clicking area of the mouse change?
I want to do a flash application follow the imape file I attached here, does anyone know how to change a shape to random shape when clicking using as3?
View 1 RepliesI am using actionscript 3 to make a point and click game. On frame 1 there are two buttons, button 1 and 2. On frame 3 there are two buttons, button A and B. I want it so that after I click button 1 on frame 1, button A on frame 3 will be hidden or when I click button 2 on frame 1, button B on frame 3 will be hidden. The buttons that are hidden do not do anything when you click them.

Im creating an xml based mp3 player in AS3. I have everthing working except the repeat song part. I need a code to loop the song endlessly on the click of a button, while the song is playing. Say the user is listening to a song and wants to hear it again. They can click on the loop button and replay the song until they click on the loop button again, to take the loop off. Once the loop button is clicked again, the current song ends and plays the next song in the playlist. As the playlist continues to play, I hear another song that I want to replay, so I click on the loop button. Also I need to be able to pause the song and then play it, while the loop is in affect.
View 1 RepliesI'm using Adobe Flash CS4 and ActionScript 2, And I need to go to the next scene buy clicking on a button. Instead it stays in the same scene. And this is the code I use:

I'm making a website with mc used as button for the menu. I want that when I click on
a button it remain on "over" state, then when I click another button it come back to "up" state and the new one to "over", I can do this, but then I can't assign single action to every button (like onRollOver, gotoAndPlay ecc..).
Here is my code:
The button instance is pbtn0, pbtn1 and so on to 4.
fncBtnBuild = function () {
For each of 5...
for (var icrBtn = 0; icrBtn<5; icrBtn++) {
Create a reference to a movieclip-button's instance name (pbtn0 through pbtn4).
var rfcClip = this["pbtn"+icrBtn];

i have a few scenes that run all together by clicking on a button to get to the next scenes. instead of the next scenes coming and going super fast, i want to have some neat type of animation that string them all together when you want to get to the next scene.
