I have this code in my .fla file. What it does, in a nutshell, is get data from a .xml and display it in a movieclip.And, what i would like to do is palce this code in a .as file and use it from there.[code]

I am trying to write a class file using a .as file instead of writing code into the script tab of a .fla file.When I write stage.addChild(img); I get an error that stage is null. When I take out stage, and just write addChild(img); the code runs fine, but nothing appears on stage. Do I need to do something to set a stage active?
Is this because I don't have a Main class? My class is named after the file and I don't have a file named Main.Here is the code. As it is, it runs and I get the two trace outputs, but no graphic on my screen.

View 1 RepliesI have a symbol in the Library with a Base Class that extends the MovieClip Class and adds some additional functionality. I want to be able to export this from the Library by right clicking on the symbol and selecting Export SWF. I was hopping this would essentially give me the same results as if the symbol contents was on the main timeline and I had declared the Base Class as the Document Class. When I import this SWF using the Loader Class it seems to loose all of Base Class functionality and think of itself as a MovieClip.

3. open the fla to view the icons

I have flash as part of the CS3 suite but I never use it, don't know how. However I have a need to convert some flash files to something that can be uploaded to the web, ala YouTube. So naturally I opened a .flv file with Flash and simple went to File->Export hoping (but doubting) it would be that easy. Of course, that did not work. The result was a half second of blank white screen.
Is there a quick and simple way to open a Flash file and convert it/export it as .mov (or some other format for uploading to video sites that don't accept flash files)?

I have spent 2 hours on this crazy crap and don't know WTF is going on.
I am trying to find out how to make one .as file code interact with another .as file's code.like, if I had one .as file that specified options of movies and then when the user clicks on a movie (loaded through xml) it uses code from another .as file to load the correct movie.

I am working on a website where video quality is very important and the client is delivering me the video already compressed. I then want to import it to flash CS3 and export it as .flv for progressive download with the media playback component. I have done all of this successfully in a sense that it all works but the video quality is not good enough, it's good but the client says it;s a bit grainy. I used the highest setting in Flash, on2 vp6 at 700kbs.
My question is what is the best file format (.mov etc) and what settings should the client use, so I can create the highest quality .flv export from their .mov file? Second question, I used an 8 second buffer but now the client is saying they don't want it to buffer at all. What are the other options besides progressive download, I have never delved into this before?

The mc's are on the stage... i have a single .as classfile. Why cant I reference them? or how should i do it/ what should i do to change it from beeing .fla script to class script.
I see a lot of tutorials about coding actionscript 3 when they use all the code in a Class.I keep thinking every time why they use it in a class, instead of using actionscript on the stage.why it is more functional to code a class instead of putting code in the stage actionscript?
