Feb 26, 2011I have got a page which lets me control some devices in a local network. However, some of the advanced settings can be set only using an .exe file which is located on the computer where I run the configuration page. I would like to have all the configurational tools "in one place" so it would be nice to have a kind of link/block/button/flash animation/whatever which - after being clicked by the user - would run a specified .exe file. I think that it is possible somehow, because I've seen MMO games which are launched using a webpage. I also suspect that html/javascript will not let me to do something like that, so maybe the answer is Flash?

Jul 11, 2008I am using an AS3 file that loads in an AS2 (AVM1 movie). The AS3 file loads in the AS2 swf just fine; however, the AS2 swf has a moviecliploader class within its script and once the AS2 file fires the loadClip function of the class none of the event listeners are called(i.e. onLoadStart, onLoadProgress, etc.). Does the AS3 root file ignore the movieClipLoader class within AVM1 movies? I thought that if you do load a AS2 file into an AS3 file that the AS2 file just maintains its _root property and will still run all the older actionscript fine.

Feb 23, 2011Problem:I call a PHP file using an HTTPService. I set the result of this HTTPService to a function which populates a testTextArea with whatever the PHP file has returned (echoed). This work fine when I run the application from flash builder i.e. I get strings in the testTextArea, echoed by my PHP file. But this does not work fine when I make the Release of the project and the testTextArea gets populated by the whole code of PHP file.

Jan 14, 2010I'm an application developer, and my standard usage of Flash is as follows: I'm creating an executable application, which contains a ShockwaveFlash object instance, which in turn is displaying a Flash Movie Clip - also created by myself. The executable application and the contained Flash clip are communicating via the ActionScript ExternalInterface (using XML strings) and the FSCommand.
I'd like to be able to debug the ActionScript code of the Flash file while I'm running/debugging my executable application. For that, I need to be able to start a remote debugging session from the Flash object running inside my executable. Problem is, I did not find any way of doing this.
When I publish the Flash SWF file with "permit debugging" checked, I'm able to start a remote debugging session when I'm displaying the file in a player or a browser (the "debugging" option is shown at the right-click menu of the Flash object), but I'm not able to do the same with the object inside my executable (the "debugging" option doesn't exist on the menu).
Environment Details: The executable application is using the ShockwaveFlash COM file to create the ShockwaveFlash object. The executable application is created using VB.NET, Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.5. The Flash SWF file is created using Adobe Flash Professional CS4. I'm developing under Windows XP (SP3).

Apr 8, 2011I want to distribute an SWF file to be run on computers, not the internet.However, I want to be able to access the internet through a link controlled by a button.This used to work, now I get a security warning telling me I need to change the settings on my computer.For obvious reasons I don't want to make every person who runs the swf file to have to do that!Under Windows I can create an EXE file that does not create the security warning, but on the Mac that won't help.

Feb 3, 2011I'm developing a web application with Flash CS5 and AS3.0. The problem I'm having is this:At a certain state, the application goes to a frame with a "loading..." animation that loops continuously until the next state is reached. The animation is inside a MovieClip that lives on this frame on the stage (I'm not creating or animating it dynamically). While in this state, the app is waiting to receive a large xml file from an XmlSocket connection. The file takes a few seconds (literally - not milliseconds) to be received fully by the Flash player, and during this time the loading animation stops. I believe the socket is blocking the animation thread until it's done receiving the entire file.Does anyone know of a workaround that would allow the animation to keep playing while the socket is receiving? I've seen pseudo-threading hacks, but those always deal with computations or other activities that can be accomplished by calling a call-back function multiple times. Since I'm just listening on an open socket, there's no callback I could pass to a pseudo-thread.

Sep 24, 2010I'm trying to migrate a large project to Flex 4.The problem is that the AIR version must be compatible with old MACs (without intel processors) such as G5. As far as I know, only AIR runtime 1.5.3 works on these machines, but Flex 4 requires AIR 2.0.Is there any possible way to deploy an AIR application built with Flex 4 components on these MACs?

Jun 11, 2009I've got a function which looks at movieclips (ball#_mc) which have been placed in a target zone (_ballPlaced[#] boolean). It then decides where to go on each movieclip timeline depending on which other balls have been placed in a target zone.Only the first condition is ever met, i.e. when all the balls are in a zone, they jump to their correct places in their timelines....however, it doesn't work for any of the other 'else if' conditions?
