ActionScript 3.0 :: GotoAndStop() / Stop() Fail - Sending An Event From One Of The Frames Of A Movieclip

Dec 3, 2009

I've recently had a problem in my application's flow. I was sending an event from one of the frames of a movieclip and the issue was that it was being sent over and over and over when I wanted it to be sent only once. I assumed that placing a call to stop(); at the last frame of the clip would prevent it from looping. This was not the case however. After that I tried calling gotoAndStop(0); to reset the movieclip and stop it from looping. This did not work either. Then I went through my code to make sure nothing else was causing it to play.

I solved the problem by adding an extra frame to the end of the clip and calling gotoAndStop to that frame instead of 0. I've looked around the forums and google for information on this phenomenon but have only found cryptic answers. I was wondering if someone could explain the divine purpose that drives MovieClips to play regardless of whether they are told to stop or not when they get to frame 0 or 1.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Parent / Child MovieClip - Nested Frames And GotoAndStop

Dec 2, 2011

I have a very specific AS2 parent/child movie clip issue. I have a main Character movie clip which contains as nested frames each profile of the Character (front,back,left,etc). Within each of these child profile MC frames, animations for those profiles are further nested in frames. Then, essentially I have movement code as part of the key listener:

Code:
switch(Key.getCode()){
case 87:
Character._y -= 10;
Character.gotoAndStop('Back');
Character.gotoAndStop('walk');
break;
[Code] .....

And later code to reset to the character's resting frame after key release:
Code:
switch(Character._currentFrame){
case 5:
Character.gotoAndStop('Back');
break;
[Code] .....

The problem is that when I try to Character.gotoAndStop('Front'); after key release, flash thinks, you're already on the Front frame (because the walk animation is a child of that MC and is already playing). Therefore the walk animation just keeps playing after the key has been released.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Stop MovieClip After Certain Number Of Frames?

May 24, 2010

I'm working on a visualisation where the user inputs the number of songs they have and it shows you a visual of how many CDs this is (for a uni assignment). I have my variable 'output' and somehow I need to code a button so that when the user clicks it it takes them to my movie clip 'cdstack' frame 'output - 10' and plays then stops when it gets to frame 'output'. So it will play for ten frames then stop when it reaches 'output'.

ActionScript 2.0 :: CS3 Making A MovieClip Play It's Frames, Then Stop On A Main Timeline Frame?

May 12, 2010

I am currently in the middle of making a "sniping" flash game. In the first level there are a series of moving targets which are also movie clips. Inside the movie clip there is a 7 frame animation of the target exploding. Inside that is a tween of the target moving up and down. And inside that there is a plain old button.

What I want to happen is when you click on the moving target it explodes and brings you to a new frame of the main timeline. (ex. Main Timeline frame #27) But I'm pretty sure it thinks I was to play the seven frame animation of it exploding and then go to frame 27 inside the movie clip, rather then frame 27 on the main timeline.

Here's what my AS looks like on the target (ActionScript 2.0 is what I'm using.)

on (press) {
play();
}
on (release){
gotoAndStop(27)}

So how do I make it explode and then take me to frame 27 on the main timeline?

Professional :: GotoAndStop(); Randomly Moves To Frames

Apr 7, 2011

I'm using gotoAndStop(); for my buttons within flash using the following method:

myButtonInstance.onRelease = function() {
gotoAndStop("frame5");
}

however, I've come accross a problem where in for some reason the application will sometimes move frames when I don't want it to. For example, given the code above it would sometimes go to frame 5, but then instantly move somewhere else from there despite the code saying only to do so when a button is pressed.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Objects Carried Between Frames By GotoAndStop()?

Jan 15, 2010

I am creating a point and click game.In the bottom corners of the screen there are two arrows for changing the area. When these arrows are clicked, the only thing that is supposed to happen is a frame change. For some reason, objects are being carried from the frame they are supposed to be on to the frame that is changed to and they stack up each time the frame changes. I don't even see how this is possible without writing code specifically for it. Here is the code in one of the objects being transferred:

Code:
onClipEvent(load)
{
var DepthCorrection = 0;[code]...

Nothing in that could possibly make it move to a different frame and it has no instance name so nothing can reference it to bring it to one.Here is the code for changing frames:

Code:
onClipEvent(load)
{
var Frame = _global.Area + 1;[code]...

I've had problems with gotoAndStop() before where it went to the wrong frame and only displayed certain objects on that frame.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Parallel Loaders Fail To Fire Some Event.COMPLETE

Oct 19, 2011

I want to dynamically load several png images from 6K to 2,5M. I create the loaders in a for loop and start them all at the same time, and listen Progress, Complete, IOError and SecurityError on each loader. The problem is the COMPLETE events are not always fired, even if Progress events show all images are fully downloaded.

I tested with Firefox and Chrome, I load 4 images 2.5M, 2M, 1M, and 6K, then I just get 2 or 3 COMPLETE events, sometimes the 4 are fired with Chrome. Did not find any workaround. I tried to listen ProgressEvent and call the completeHandler when bytesLoaded == bytesTotal but the loaderInfo.content is null (and bytesAvailable =0) so I can't get the Bitmap.

1) Is there a known limitation in the number of simultaneous loaders, from flash player or browsers ? Does Adobe recommend to have queued loaders instead of simultaneous ?

2) Is there a way to get the loaded Bitmap when COMPLETE is not fired ?

3) I don't keep the loaders in a property of my class, and use weakReference for the listeners : the issue can come from my code ? (but the ProgressEvents are received until the download is complete)

it seems that i cannot add the event listeners to buttons that are not in my current viewed frame.

so.. problem one: is there a way to add event listeners to all the elements in the movieclip even if the elements are in a different frame.

problem two: after I added an event listener to some elements in current frame and then I move forward to the next frame and go back to the same frame, all the event listeners are removed and i need to initialize them again. is there a way to resolve the issue without the need to re-initialize the event listeners ?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Buttons Stop Working After GotoAndStop / GotoAndPlay

I have a .fla file that consists of four images that appear, pause a few seconds, and disappear in sequence. Each image has an associated button that links to a different url. There are also four navigation buttons, should someone want to jump to a particular one of the images. My problem is, the navigation buttons use a gotoAndStop action to take the user to a specific frame. After one of those buttons is clicked, the buttons that link to the urls no longer work. They all work fine until a gotoAndStop action is called. The navigation buttons continue to work.
