ActionScript 3.0 :: If Statement Not Finding Greater Than Zero?
Feb 27, 2007
Why would
if(vol > 0){
trace("worked");
}
NOT work if the value is a decimal value between 0 and 1?The trace only works sometimes. I didn't note though at what value it worked..STUPID ME...forgot and plus, it was 2AM.I am reading in an array ..byteArray, and then passing readFloat to vol.

Code:

trace("string");
case is Array:
trace("array");

I have just found out that flash wont let me create a movie with width or height greater than 2880. The thing is I have an image of the stage which has a height of 3568px so some clipping has occured and I cannot see the rest of the image when I publish the movie. Is there a way to somehow adjust my movie to this height so that I can see the rest of the image? I have assigned a little AS2 to resize the stage:
Code:
Stage.height = 3568;
However this doesnt work!

I am trying to loop through a bitmap and determine if each pixel is lighter or darker than gray using getPixel(). Problem is, I am not sure how to tell whether the value returned by getPixel() is darker or lighter than gray.
Neutral gray is about 0x808080 or R:127, G:127, B:127. How would I need to modify the code below to accurately determine this?

I have a scrolling flash gallery. On mouse hover over a thumbnail, a popup with more description is shown. The problem is that my stage height is 200px but the popup requires additional about 200px to show properly. When I embed this in an HTML page with the object tag height set to 200px, i see the scroller completely but the popup get cut from the top. If i change the object height to 400px, it show me the popup fine, but this inserts extra blank space in the html page.

Having a few problems with what I thought was a simple if statement. Here is the code:
[Code]...
I can't quite figure out the small problem with the code. It seems to just bypass the first requirement of the if statement when I do type in the proper input and go straight to the else statement.

if (variable == 1){
//code
//Execute this code.
} else if (variable == 2) {
//code
[Code]...
I dont want to copy the code from the first into the second and the first and second into the third.
My mind isn't working and there is probably an extremelly simple way to get this working.
I know I could used functions but for some reason it stops the instance referencing working: _root["bullet"+j] doesnt work in a function.

The Flash movie contains 2 Text files, one Component button, and 1 component checkbox.The purpose of the application is to load an XML file(works)Populate 2 text fields with information from the XML file(works)Compare the two text fields, if they contain the same information then the checkbox, via AS is told to be selected. (Heres the problem);
Heres the code:
Code:
runCode_btn.onPress = function() {
data_xml = new XML();
data_xml.ignoreWhite = true;
data_xml.onLoad = function(success) {
[code]....
The idea behind this app is that its an electronic form. The user fills it out, the information is then sent to a newly created XML file, months later the open the XML file in flash, and Flash fills out text fields and check and or unchecks Checkboxes based on the XML data.CheckBoxes are mandatory.But I don't see how I'll be able to use them if i can't create and condition statements based on the loaded Data.

what I'm trying to do is create an else if argument for each object in an array based on a user set number
Code:
for(var i:int=0; i < numberOfElseIfs; i++){
GENERATE AS3 CODE
}
to which I want it to GENERATE THE FOLLOWING CODE:
Code:
}else if(baskets[i].used == false){
baskets[i].used = true;
drawButton(i);
}
the problem is obviously that the compiler reads this code rather than understanding I'm trying to regenerate the code within the for loop...does that make sense :S? So basically I need as3 to read the code between the for statement as if it is going to echo that out later. Is this even possible?

I wonder if there is a way in actionscript 2 that makes something happen if an object hit another object with a specific speed. For exemple: If Object 1 hits Object 2 with a speed greater than 10 I want something to happen.

I have a script which is giving me a lot of trouble since I have no idea how to write another "if statement" inside another if-else statement. I keep getting errors, I guess I don't know where to put the braces exactly...
example:
if(bla == bla) {
<------------how would I write another if statement here?
}else if (bla == bla){
}

I was wondering if someone knew or has one of those accurate speed tests could test "not less than" versus "greater or equal to" speed in Actionscript 3 (Air 2.5 if that makes a difference)?I have virtual machines running on this computer and I am getting very inaccurate results.
Using it as such
if ( !(__index < _vector.length) ) return;
or
if ( __index <= _vector.length ) return;
I would have thought the first one, since all its doing is 1 test and then reversing it, but actionscript 3 has some of those quirks where you can never be sure.

I need to find an instance of a movieclip that is on my flash file. It is really big and uses a lot of memory. It says on the number of times used that there is one instance of the object on the flash file, but I can't find it. I thought I deleted them all but there must be one left. How do I go about finding it? It's a really large flash file with many layers, and I don't want to just delete the library file. Is there any way I can find where the object is placed in my file?

We have a client server architecture where a C++ server talks to Flash clients. I'm developing the server and would like to send through tcp an xy coord to simulate a button press where the receiving flash client would find the topmost visible object at that coord and send a mouse event to it such that we could simulate play without a human present. I'm told this is incredibly difficult, but it seems to me that there must be a way to do this. Am I off the mark? Or is there a mechanism in flash to iterate through all objects regardless of parent child relationships to find a visible button at an x, y coord and signal a press event?
