View 2 Repliesis it possible to have a popup box (or something of the sort) show up where the user can select a txt file to load into flash from a list of txt files in the current directory..
this is for non-webpage use ... i am trying to make it so i dont need more than the flash file itself
I would like to load a user's file right after the app is inicialized. I have this code:
[Code]...
It works fine when some button is pressed, but when i just put it inside the frame's code, it doesnt work.
I am putting together an artists gallery, and i need to show each artist's collection when you select their name from a drop down combo box. [url]...
create a new xml file for every artist (artistname.xml) to load in to the thumbnail gallery.
QUESTION - How do I make this file to be a variable depending on the user selection from the dropdown.[code]...
Is there any way of letting a user load their own text?
View 3 RepliesI am a developer in Web Flash Game.(I use AS3.0) I want to save and load the swf-file to a local disk of any user,Because I want to decrease the time for loading a flash movie from site.Is it possible?If it is possible, I hope the swf-file has only one loading from site and it will be loaded from a local disk of any user after that. (I know a concept of Internet temporary file. I want to know the other techniques of only using AS3.0.)
View 3 RepliesI'm writing a small application for myself and instead of using a database I'd like to just use Excel to store the small amount of data I have on my local file system. I want to be able to load that data without having to use the typical FileReference browse() method as it would just be annoying to do every time I use the application.
The code below seems to find the file fine as the file.exists method below and most of the other attributes seem to be correct but the file.data is always null.I'm guessing this is a security issue and that's why I'm running into this problem but I thought I'd ask and see if there is in fact a way around this problem.
var file:File = new File(fullPath + "\" + currentFolder + ".txt");
if(file.exists) {
var byteArray:ByteArray = file.data;
}
It is possible to make file transfer from air application via server?I think need to create like byte array streaming or somethink like this from sender and write the destination file on receiver user pc.
View 2 RepliesI have a problem with a dynamic video player that I have created in flash. The video player is "SCORM" compliant so that when the user clicks the "exit" button a class file is called to mark the user complete in an LMS.I have tested the SCORM Code previously and it works with out issue. Usually I have the completion code embedded in an Actions Layer of the movie. This is the first time I have attempted to call the completion status in a class file, I have added a "trace statement" when the movie is tested within flash it runs the trace statement properly, but when uploaded to the LMS environment the course does not complete properly
View 3 Repliesstep1- I got an xml that is locally loaded(works fine)
step2- the content goes into a datagrid that is displayed (works fine)
step3- In AS3 I dynamically add some lines to this xml file(works fine)
step4- I save it locally (works fine)
step5-and want the datagrid to be updated..(works not-so-well)
So, in step 4, the data is saved into the xml file, but in order to finish the save, the user has to click on the "Save as" windows in order to have the file updated of course.. and that's where's my problem, how can i tell flash to wait till the user actually saves the file, before reload the xml file in the datagrid ? here's the code :

I want to know the 'file path' when an user selects a file from 'any location' on his hard disk. I like to know is it possible to fetch the entire file URL instead of the file name alone?
Code:
var fileRef= new FileReference();
fileRef.addListener(mylistener);
mylistener.onOpen = function(file){

I'm trying to load a swf file within another swf file and then load different swf files from buttons.This is the code I'm using, but I can't get any of the swf files to load.
var Xpos:Number = 0;
var Ypos:Number = 0;
var swf:MovieClip;[code]...........
I'm using the following section of AS:
onClipEvent (load) {
//sets up a sound object, loads the .mp3 file and starts the sound.
this.faTrack = new Sound();
[Code].....
You do not need to import the sound file into Flash. You just have to make sure
that the .mp3 file is in the same directory as the .swf file. You should also make
sure that the .mp3 file is named the same as faFile in the FlashAmp .txt file.
The benefits of this method are that the .mp3 file only downloads if the user gets
to the bit in your Flash file where you call it. It also plays as it streams although there will be a slight delay as it buffers (FlashAmp will take account of this delay as the arrays are based on the position of the sound).

I can't seem to remove / unload the external swf files e.g when the carousel.swf (portfolio) is displayed and I press the about button the about content is overlapping the carousel (portfolio) . How can I remove / unload an external swf file from the main flash file and load a new swf file, while at the same time removing garbage collection from memory?
View 15 RepliesI know how to load external text files in AS3 but I want the user to be able to do it from within my excited swf file. The obvious way to do this is to load the text file using a string from a dynamic text field (e.g: "myfile/myTextFeild.txt") but i want it to be more user friendly.If you click file open in Microsoft word, for example, you get the user friendly open box where you can find the file you want to load by browsing through your hard-drive.

You all know the "loadMovie" command but is there a way to tell if the movie you want to load really exists? For example: I have a movie on my server names "asdf.swf" and I want to use loadMovie to open it. Well what If I want it to check if it exists before I try to load it? Also, can you load picture files to a movie? (gif/png)

how to allow the user to upload some image of his/her choice from his/her local computer, plus adding some control on size and dimension limit.
I've seen this performed for instance in webs where they sell sunglasses. The movie allows you to upload your own picture of yourself so that you can virtually try them on.
I have a flash movie, that shows a message to a user when it first loads up. When the users mouse enters the stage or moves the mouse the message disappears. However I would like to hide the message if the users mouse starts over the flash movie on the page load. Is this possible or does it need an interaction first?

View 2 RepliesIs it possible to have a preloader for a external FLV while the user waits for the buffer to load?The code I used is here: (I did not use the component panel but a video instance from the library)

//Create a local streaming connection
netConn.connect(null);

I am creating an online demo which has 5 scenes that play one after another. My goal is to load the 1st scene while the user waits. Once the 1st scene starts to play, the 2nd scene begins downloading quietly in the background. That way, once the 1st scene is complete, it will automiatically play the second scene, the viewer none the wiser. I don't have any user interaction here.

I am building a flash application using flex. From time to time, I see an issue in IE 7 and 8 where the user logs into the site and the browser content pane is completely grey and the entire page (html, javascript and flash) won't load until the user clicks the X (Stop) button next the address bar. As soon as the X is clicked, the html loads and then the swf file loads immediately.
This doesn't happen for me or any other developers on the project so it is very hard to diagnose. The users are all using the latest flash player. The only difference between our setups that I can think of is that we have the debug version of flash player and they probably do not.
Its meant to be a background preloader, so it loads stuff in, but if the user selects something it stops, loads the choice item and removes it from the "to be loaded"...loadArray. so when it restarts it knows not to load it again
Setback/feature 1: if a user choices to select an item, it will continue to load whatever is loading and start to load the item they want.
Setback/feature 2: the preloader will not restart until the user calls userCont().... should I have a timer so after awhile it kicks back in?
Error: just realised I have to stop it when it gets the end of the list.
Code:
stop();
//loadArray = stuff to load
//targetArray = target for stuff to load into
//loader(loadArray, targetArray);
// call loader function
