However, I need to get the XML data into a (JSP) session and can't neccesarily have an external XML file--any suggestions? Can I put the XML string into a hidden input field in a form on the HTML? Can Flash communicate with that HTML? Or are one of the below methods recommended:

I need to figure out how to utilize one SWF player/file to load different streaming F4V files dynamically.[code]...
Currently I am publishing a separate SWF player/file for each F4V, but this is unacceptable. I need to use one SWF file to load different F4V files. I'm not that knowledgeable in the ways of Flash, but I believe that the "src" attribute of the embed tag and the "name='movie'" attribute of the object's param tag needs to point to the SWF player/file. So does anybody know how I can manipulate the object and embed tags to make them load a different F4V file into the SWF player?
Looking to load data from a MySQL database into a Tile List component. Not sure where to start to be honest, I've got a set up just now to add data from the same database into a List component - should I just use the same code and change it accordingly?
Or is there a simpler, more effective manner of loading my required info (it is a title and an image (x4), which changes regularly, ie every week depending on the sort applied for the products)[code]...

View 3 RepliesI have a textarea in my rails application to collect content from user in a database. The rails application is further feeding that text to an XML-driven flex application.The flex application has number of fixed sized containers which wraps the text inside (from the XML created by Rails app on-the-fly), but truncates the text if it exceeds the container's height. Problem is; there is no way to present the large text in XML, so it gets adjusted automatically in the compiled flex application. And the fact is; the web-based rails app and front-tier flex app are entirely disconnected in terms of having awareness of their internal events. (like in this case; rails app has no knowledge of the overflow event for flex internal containers and relying on font-size and character/line count doesn't work in this scenario!)
Therefore, I wrote a JS function to watch and rescue the textarea's overflow situation and while setting its attributes (viz; line-height, font-size, font-family, width, height... yada yada) matching that of the flex control. The complex form in rails did the trick to have dynamic number of such textarea's control being observed by the JS function.Here is the Prototype code to handle the overflow event with the corresponding rescue code for cleanup:

Is there a way to get the scrollHeight and offsetHeight of the control created by tinyMCE?Is there a way to get the only-text version (without markup) of inner content of tinyMCE control?(So, when I truncate the text in check_limits function, it doesn't effect/breaks the markup/DOM created by tinyMCE for the formatted text. In other words, I would be simulating the user action of pressing backspace on tinyMCE control in the while loop.)

View 1 RepliesI have been working on a Flash movie that loads variable data from an external XML file and dynamically displays the item names in a menu which may then be clicked to display other dynamically-loaded content that corresponds to the menu item that was clicked. I have now come to a standstill in the project as there is something I'd like to achieve but simply cannot work out how. This is my first attempt at working with XML in Flash and one of my early attempts at using variables. What I'm trying to achieve is; once the user has viewed the item's content, they can simply click "next" and "previous" buttons to display all of the content for the next or previous items in the XML document.
I know it probably sounds simple and I'm sure some of you could achieve this in 5 minutes (!) but I can't get my head around some of the coding. I assume previousSibling and nextSibling would come into play here as well as some sort of functions which access arrays of data for the previous and next items, but I'm just not sure how to correctly put these things to use. I have a flash musicplayer, that is very simple by itself. it has one button, Start/Stop. The player itself is in footer.
The Problem: when the page loads music won't start (FLASH player won't play) before you don't see it on the page, I mean, when the screen is small by resolution, you don't see the footer - and music doesn't start. when you scroll down to footer (when you see the player) it starts playing.
How should I do that no matter if you see the player or not - the player starts playing.
We have implemented a Flash photo slideshow on our site and it works just fine for most of our users. Whenever the xml.load(success) returns false I have the Flash email me a debug report. For the life of me I can not find a common thread between all of these people having problems with the Flash. I don't think it's a cross-domain issue because it works for most people, and I have the crossdomain.xml files where they should be.

i load in AS3 data into flash and mantain their data type? Like receiving an array and even with arrays in it and recognizing that is an array instead of a standard string.
And if this is possible is it more reliable then using XML?
I have a flash movie with a button to 'view items in new browser window.' These items are all dynamically generated in flash. So the html has to be dynamically generated as well. Can any sugest a way to do this? Do I need to use php or some server side script?

I have to create a web page which can be set to full screen(I mean the real full screen,not like press the F11),in the full screen there should be some words displaying.

Normally,it show its contents(the questions),but someday,maybe a VIP come to visit the page,so we want to replace the whole page with a welcome screen.
Of course we can replace the [URL] (suppose it is the index page) with the welcome text(welcome xxx to our site...) in the server side.
However this is not convenient,and the text can not be full screened.
So I thought the flash,I can add a controller button at the page,when required,I click this button,and set the welcome words,then a flash will start to play with the sepcified words in a full screen model. It would be better if the flash can show the text with a Animation.
I have never did the flash development,so I want to know if this is possible?
BTW,can all the clients change to flash with juse one click?
I mean I click the controller button,then all the client who is visit this page should see the contents replaced by the flash at the same time.
I have a scenario that I get an string with html data, this is not just html data it's an email (outlook) saved as an html file and dropped in the string.Now this string needs to be formatted to an html document and should be a clickable link in a datagrid. So when I click on the link, the HTML document should pop-up and should gave me a nice HTML page that is readable for the normal users. I hope it's a bit clear what I want o_0. don't know where to start.

I need to find or develop an app that will load in a pdf file from the web, allow a user to make simple annotations and save these annotations back to a webserver I'm curently using the zurb javascript annotator with the pdf rendered to a .jpg with imagemagick. Just now, I was told that they need the ability to zoom in to 3000% or more on some files. clearly rendering to a jpg would create gigantic files.
So I need to create either a java app or a flash app that will load the original pdf, allow the user to mark it up, and save either the annotated pdf, or the annotations themselves back to the webapp. This also needs to live IN the web browser, launching acrobat reader, or an air app that must be downloaded and installed are not going to work here.
I am new to Flash and was wondering if it was, at all,possible to load a webpage into flash? I want to load my HTML sitesonto my flash stage. Would it work the same as loading a picture using the loader component?

Hi, i'm working on a project where i have some major functions on the page working in over a flash file, and i was wondering if there was a way to interact with the html page, based on actions made in the flash file, without having to use ajax or something like that.
I want the flash file to send some kind of data to the html page, much like a javascript, WITHOUT having to reload the page or submit it like a form action.

But I want the display to change everytime the XML filechanges-- in order to reflect status changes. I've used anXMLConnector and specified it and the trigger in the first frame.The Flash code catches and shows the XML values initially . Butwhen I edit the XML file, the new values are never picked up byFlash- its almost as though the values are cached. How do I getFlash to regularly be updated from a changing XML file? View 8 RepliesI work in a theatre and I'm looking to create a seat map that can be shown to members of the public as they book their seats, so they can see where they are going to be sitting. The main problem I've come up against is that the person viewing the application, will not be using it. I need the Box Office clerk to be able to input data, and then the seating plan shows the seats on a second monitor (public facing)
What I thought of doing was to create 2 flash applications and used Shared Objects to pass data from one to the other. In the Clerk application, they would input the seats that are being requested and click Submit (or whatever). In the Public application, these seats would then be highlighted. Ideally, another dynamic image would change to show the view from that general area of seating.
I have 20 different flash files that i need to play randomly when a user enters a zip code. I am done with the project, but the way I have done it is I think could have been done a lot better. I have 20 different aspx files that have the flash object. I redirect users to different aspx files based on the random number using Random class. Is there a way to just have one aspx file where the param value and data could be passed using a variable. That way, its easier to maintain and i don't have to go to 20 different aspx files to update anything. Here is what the flash object looks like.
