I am working in a AI project: a Chatterbot and it works fine. I work in webdesign, video, 3D and illustration and this personal project eats my free time You should set the answers and questions in the XML file called "bdenglish.xml", it contains a basic example. The bot will understand the new nodes. Actionscript(FLA) processes the user input text and search for an answer in the XML file. The bot can understand several ways to make a question. Also it can memorise the conversation subject if you use XML propierties (It is unfinished) The user can use ENTER key or the SEND button. The bot can know the genre of the user because it is male like default, but it search in a female names list. The output field answer is HTML text, also it support images, animations or sounds. The bot can chat in several languages. You can synchronize video with the answers (bot expression), I am woking in a basic function with video.
I am workin in a alternative answer motor, it would work with the XML. I want to use lipsync in the future for a talking version. How it works? - The bot converts the XML database to an multidimensional array.- The user writes a question - This input is processed in the AS code - The bot searchs in the multidimensional array - The first word must be found - The bot answer the question or it responds something if the question is not found I am not programmer and the AS3 bot was hard for me, but it works. I was trying get a good code and I am work in a better search function. I hope some criticism and comment from Kirupa masters! It is in my personal site:[URL]

I'm having a problem with Flash Media Interactive Server 3.5. I have a simple application setup. I would like to simply to be allow the user to record multiple flvs. This is just because we want them to record, preview and either publish or try again.
[Code]...
to start and stop recording. The problem I'm having is that while the first record seems to go ok, the second gets garbled. The video starts about 70% through, and then just plays a small portion. I've tried meta injection to fix it up, but it's just not working. I'm thinking maybe I have to reset the stream or something before starting a record again, but I don't know how.

We want to build an application that allows the user to record a video using their webcam on our site using flash and save the URL in a database using PHP. So that we can allow the user to send the video's to other users etc. Also we want to offer the user the possibility to upload their movies (per mail and with PHP) and convert them to flash movies, can this also be done using Flash media server? (maybe in combination with AMFPHP)

In my Flex 3 application the user enters IP addresses into a textInput object. As the user enters the numbers comprising the ip address I would like to add the '.' on the fly rather than waiting until latter, so that if the user types 127000000001 I would like the textInput control to display 127.000.000.001. I've been trying to make a class that extends textInput and adds the '.'s to the object's text property in the Event.CHANGE or Event.TextInput handler. Sadly, my extra '.' never gets displayed, the numbers appear without dots just as the user typed them.

I have a project that involves taking user input from a keyboard/numeric keypad. The script I wrote detects when the user actually enters a numeral in the text area, and replaces it with step-by-step with a series of letters and numbers in a similar fashion to keypad input on a phone. Everyone else's solution assumes that the user is A.) On an actual mobile device, and B.) That the LAST character is the one that should be replaced in the series.
Whereas, in my case, the user can use standard keyboard/numeric keypad input. Moreover, the caret should be able to move to any arbitrary position within a given string of text, and not just to the end of that string. My script works for the most part, except for some reason, the caret advances on its own without me/the user telling it to, and from what I can see, there's nothing in the code to allow for this:
Code:
var _1:String = "1@._-";
var _2:String = "2abc";
var _3:String = "3def";
var _4:String = "4ghi";
var _5:String = "5jkl";
[Code] .....
Lastly; my code does not account for when a user presses a DIFFERENT number than the one that they are currently pressing--in which case the caret should naturally advance automatically to allow for a new numeral to be inserted. My example is attached.

so I'm trying to create and input textarea with a scrollbar. No scrolling buttons needed. The app will be a font previewing app, where the user can change fonts, sizes etc. kinda like [URL](hit try on any font).
Everything works fine until the user wants to add some text. I've got an easing scrollbar thing going, which almost work, but the problem is in updating the scrollbar's position after the user has typed something in (tested using onSetFocus and onKillfocus). This scroller works with a mask and the x, y and height value of the masked clip.
So I started looking into scroll and thought I'd use that. Now I'm so puzzled that I can't figure out the best way to scroll and input textarea, so that the scrollbar's position would update according to the cursor's position in the text.

I'm writing a movie scene in AS3, and I hit a snag. I have a movie where the dialogue is advanced by the user pressing a button (the space bar). I have a speak function which prints out the dialogue to a dynamic text box. However, if I type in this:
speak(1, "Hello world!");
speak(2, "Hello back to you as well.");
Then, my first speak function is immediately overwritten by my second one...because they run at the same time. I'm not using the timeline so, I can't put a stop() function in or anything. I'm doing it all in ActionScript.
Is there a way to pause the movie and wait for the user to press the spacebar before loading up the second function. I was thinking of nesting functions to do it, but that seems overly complicated since I'll have nearly 20 lines of dialogue nested within one another in between moving my sprites around.

I am trying to make a generic multiple choice quiz, with questions to be loaded from an xml file. The hope is that I can give it to teaching colleagues as a resource, and they can create their own questions by just altering the xml file, as none of them know how to use flash. I can make all of it work beautifully for just one xml file's worth of questions, but I'd like to enable people to save several different xml files with different questions, and choose which one to use in the first frame of my swf. Here's what I have in the first frame, where there is simply a text input box (inputxml) and a 'Go' button.
Actionscript Code:
stop ();Go.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToNextFrame);var chosenFile:Stringfunction fl_ClickToGoToNextFrame(event:MouseEvent):void{Go.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToNextFrame);
chosenFile = inputxml.text;
nextFrame();}
[Code] .....
I have just changed over from Flash Pro 8 to CS5, and AS3 is still a bit new to me - am I doing something really daft?

I am creating a game that has a gender selection and name entry box on a screen. When users hit the next button, I want to capture which gender they selected and what they typed for their name. I tried using the code found on the adobe website, but that captures every letter typed in real time.
I just started learning actionscript this week, so I'm a noob at it. Currently, when they click on the button boy1 it erases whatevers in the dynamic text box playeronesex and adds the word "woman". When they click the button girl1, it erases whatevers in playeronesex and adds the text "woman". I also need to know how to capture which they finally chose when they hit the next button.
Heres the actionscript for this frame:
//next button
stop();
onbone.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, nextone);
function nextone(event:MouseEvent):void {
[Code]....

I'm sorry this is a question from a server ignoramus, I've previously captured user input using a combination of cfml and text files. That was way back in 2002 and using AS 1.0. I'm now working in an environment where the server guy won't put any scripts on, and I mean none, no PHP, no ASP, no CFML, nothing. Would anyone know if there is a way of capturing user input without using a script, please? This prolly shows a really basic lack of understanding of how servers work but I'm a bit desperate. I know the Flash Learning Interactions can work with SCORM and pop results into LMSs that use SCORM and our LMS does use SCORM, but it seems to only be within the learning interactions and I don't know where to start to tailor this for the input I need to capture.

I want to stop the sound according to user input. For example if an user enters in a Textfield 4.32 seconds, I want to pause the song exactly at 4.32 seconds ( 432000 milliseconds.) I created a timer handler, which will fire every 1 millisecond and traced the soundChannel.position property. The last 2 sound position is
4318.911564625851 ( 4.31 seconds );
4365.351473922902 (4.36 seconds);
But how to stop at 4.32 seconds for the user?
