ActionScript 3.0 :: Render A Movieclip Into A Bitmap

I want to render a movieclip into a bitmap, and then chop the bitmap up into pieces (a grid). Ultimately I want this to result in an explosion but right now I'm working through the code that creates the grid of bitmaps. The test movieclip I created is a square with some straight lines and swirly colors, in order to make it really obvious whether I'm rendering the bitmaps accurately. I'm working just in the Flash IDE, and my movieclip (mc) is in the Library.

I want to draw some combination of bitmaps, flash shapes, vectors, text etc and draw them programmatically into my movie using ActionScript, and then get every "rendered" pixel of my movie (at 100% view) into an array that I send to another program over TCP/IP. The first part of the question is if its possible to render a frame that is a collection of Flash elements as a bitmap? I know that I can iterate through a bitmap and get every pixel using the getPixel method but I'm trying to access the final rendered frame displayed on my screen, including, as I said Flash shapes and text.
The second question is what would be the best way to send this "video frame" over TCP/IP? Would I use an XML socket connection? That is the only way I know how to send data out of Flash over TCP/IP but I don't know if it is the only way - the help page says the data needs to be formatted as XML, which seems unwieldly for this application. I'm doing this now by using Max/MSP/Jitter to do a screen capture the size and location of my Flash movie and then send out the resulting matrix using a "jit.net.send" object (which lets you send frames of video over TCP/IP), but this is too clumsy for the installation I am building.

I create a backGround MovieClip object and assign to it a MovieClip from my library.I use addChild to add it to the display list.This is the background for my movie.At some point later on, I want to change that background.If I simply assign a different MovieClip to backGround, nothing changes when I run the movie.I thought there was some method I could invoke that would re-render the backGround MovieClip, but I can't find anything.
I can simply add it again, but that seems like a waste of memory.I've done a removeChild, updated backGround, then addChild'ed it again, but that seems a little klunky.Isn't there some way to update backGround in place without having to remove it and re-add it?

I am using a html parser [URL].. to render several tables into a movieclip.My problem is: as it takes some time to render, the only one actually being added to the movieclip is the last one. I would use a timer, but that means I would need to call a function, and I am using a "for" loop to build the movielips. Is there a way to say "wait for x seconds before continuing processing" in ActionScript3?

how come the SimpleZSorter works perfect when i render my movieclip inside the flash ide.. but when i publish with flash and open in lets say firefox.. the zsorter is not working? Wtf does someone else have the same experience?

I have a flash project that's implementing a simple two player game. I have added an enterFrame function to my main movie which listens for keyboard activity in order to move a cowboy gunslinger. Whenever the cowboy moves, I send a message over a socket to a server which dispatches the movement to the other connected client. This works pretty well, however, the movement messages tend to arrive in clumps which results in jumpy animation of my cowboy on my opponents screen and jumpy animation of his cowboy on my screen. To illustrate, i put a trace in my enterFrame function because I am imagining that this function will run roughly once each time my main movie renders the screen. I also put a trace statement in my function that responds to network traffic and moves the remote player's cowboy on my screen.
Here's the output:

As you can see, I'll get several messages in a row from the remote client which instruct me to move their cowboy ('client MovePlayer running') and they will all run in a row before the screen updates. I'm guessing I should be using something like updateAfterEvent but this method is only provided by Mouse, Timer, and Keyboard events.
So a few questions:
1) Can someone recommend a good approach to force a screen render each time an incoming movePlayer event arrives over the socket? It's important to note that my function for handling these events has no visibility to the original socket data event.
2) Am I right in understanding that the enterFrame function of my main movie happens once each time my movie is rendered? Is there some more accurate event to which I could attach a trace message so that I better understand the relative frequency of the render events and the socket events?
3) Does firing an updateAfterEvent call force onEnterFrame events to happen more frequently? I'm worried about destroying performance by inadvertently firing more enterFrames which would fire more socket events which would fire more enterFrames, etc., etc.

I am having ongoing issue with using addChild(). Everything else works. The code below now loads all thirty five images and the addChild command is used directly on the Bitmap in initHandler in the ButtonClass.as excerpt below. Now I commented out the line that I was going to use to add these Bitmaps as children of the MovieClip in placeThumbnail function in the FLA. So I believe the only problem I have left is finding a way to get the Bitmaps to be children of the correct MC //This code excerpt is from ButtonClass.as

I'm trying to add a bitmap to a movie clip in code. However, I'm having trouble getting the bitmap location to go where I want it because it's inside the movieclip and it just shows up at 0,0 of the movieclip instead of the coordinates I want it to be: Here's some of code so you can see what I mean:

-Instead of showing up at 145, 90 It just shows up at the movieclip, _gamelevel, 0,0.
how I could get it to do what I want it to do? I want to add it inside the mc because I need everything to move with the _gameLevel background when I move it.

I am building a design your own jewelry, program for a jewelry company. what I want to do in theory is..
after the user finishes, convert the jewelry_mc into a Bitmap, send the bitmapdata byte array to PHP, then on the php side turn the Byte array back into an actual image and mail it in the confirmation page to the user.
I am sure im not the first to want to email an image dynamically created in flash before?

I'm loading bitmaps dynamically using AS3 and I'd like to fit/tile them within a movieclip. (like a texture but in 2D)
However, my movieclip is not rectangular and everything I tried resulted in the texture getting out of the boundaries of my movieclip and being displayed as a big rectangle.

The commented area, "This is the Line", in the below code could easily be BlankMovieClip.addChild(imageLoader). However, then all my bitmaps would be in the same container, and I need each one to have an individual name so I can modify their properties. The amount of imported bitmaps will vary, so it all has to be very flexible

I am developing a Paint Application is AS3. What I am trying is to basically mimick the MS Paint. I am using vector graphics to implement tools like pencil,line,curve and bitmap to implement bucket tool,spray and eraser. But I faced a problem. While its possible to draw bitmap over vector its not possible to draw vector over bitmap if every drawing is in the same layer.
So the idea that I have is to make it into two layers
Top layer where the vector drawing is done.
In the bottom layer layer after each vector drawing on MOUSE_UP a bitmap copy of the top layer is made and kept on the bottom layer. Keep the top layer fully transparent so that bottom layer is always visible.
Things like flood-fill(bucket tool), spray and eraser will be directly applied to bottom layer.
After each vector is drawn on MOUSE_UP the top layer will be cleared but everything will be visible because it has been re created in the bottom layer and the top layer is full transparent.
My questions are: Is there any flaw in my logic. How to make a bitmap copy of the movie clip on top. I tried but maybe I am stupid it does not work. The name of the MovieClips are topLayer_mc and bottomLayer_mc. What is need to have is to have a function to create a bitmap copy of topLayer_mc on every MOUSE_UP of pencil,line and add it to bottomLayer_mc. I mean create a bitmap copy of topLayer_mc on every MOUSE_UP of pencil, line and add it to bottomLayer_mc. A function will do.

But now the tracks are objects in an array, that will grow larger and larger (and slow down the game over time). How can I paint them on the level bitmap? This is my first question here :D, first sorry about my english. My question is basically how can i save a flash Movie Clip to FLV. The Movie Clip is generated by users and it has various sounds and animations and i need to save an FLV to send it to Youtbue. What have I tried: I found some question here about using an Alchemy Lib that I am using to grab the Movie Clip frame to frame and save it to Bitmap. The Alchemy Lib converts those frames to FLV like a charm and supports saving chunks of sound using ByteArray.
In this situation my Problem is, how can i grab the sound of Movie Clip to send it to Alchemy Lib? Iīve tried using:SoundMixer.computeSpectrum(sndData, false, 2); Witch returns me a byteArray in sndData variable but is useless since itīs used for render Audio Wave forms on screen. Thougth aboud using Sound.extract(); but i believe the sound class is used only for one MP3 sound and I need to grab the mixed sounds generated by Movie Clip.

Basically, I have a BitmapData object which is acting as a virtual screen.
I have a MovieClip which I want to render to the bitmap using the same transformation as though the bitmap were the screen. However, the MovieClip is not attached directly to the root
The BitmapData.draw() method takes a Matrix as an optional parameter, which I think I need to set as the MovieClip's localToGlobal transformation matrix. However, I don't know how to obtain or construct this!

I've got a MovieClip which has bitmaps pasted onto it via AS3. These bitmaps are transformed and are sometimes over each others with transparency.So I would like to the grab the whole MovieClip as it is and make it a completely new bitmap. Problem is:

bitmapData.draw(mc.getChildAt(0)) // works, but it doesn't save the childs properties such as x,y coordinates and transparency
What I need is basicly a function such as "Image -> Apply Image" in photoshop.Except that it only copies a movieclip and not whole stage.

If an image is 800 by 600, copy the image's bitmap data and divide the image into, say, 20 by 20 squares, each having a reference to be manipulated later. Im guessing you have to use bitmapdata for that, unfortunately I dont know how to copy bitmapdata from an image's arbitrary x and y coordinates and for a certain width/height.
