ActionScript 3.0 :: Rotate A Sprite Dynamically?

I have a sprite on the stage let's say a square, when the user clicks anywhere I want the sprite to rotate toward the mouse. Here is the code I'm using

Code:

var dx = mouseX - square.x;
var dy = mouseY - square.y;
var radians = Math.atan2(dy, dx);
square.rotation = radians * 180 / Math.PI;

This works fine if the registration point is at the center of the square. The problem is the reg point is at the upper left corner of all my sprites.How do I rotate the square so that it looks like it's rotating around it's center? Or do I have to just change the reg point in all of my sprites?

The problem is that the movieclip rotates around the center. The textfield inside the movieclip is starting at 0,0. But it still rotates around the center, how can I make it rotate at 0,0?

generally, how i work involves designing all of my graphics in Flash Authoring, converting them to Sprite symbols by changing the base class to flash.display.Sprite, give my instances names and finally export them to ActionScript.the approach actually permits me to dynamically create properties in code on my Sprite instances that i've exported to ActionScript, just as if they were instances of MovieClips. i'm not entirely sure why i'm able to do this, but i can. in polling the objects to make sure of their superclass, they are indeed Sprites and not MovieClips.however, as expected, if i program a new sprite from scratch in code and try to dynamically add a property to the new programmed sprite a compile time error will result.

To draw the shape, I need to use a series of moveTo() and lineTo() statements, so the standard beginFill() won't work for me. I'm made an Item class which extends the Sprite class, the Item class basically has a few checkmarks & labels at the moment.

Then what I try to do is run through a for loop of items and create Item classes that I want to place one after each other on the y-axis, so I'm reading the Item.height property to find the y of the next Item in the list.

The problem is for some reason there is always an extra 75 pixels added to the Sprite height at the bottom, no matter how many checkmarks and labels are in each Item class ( varying the height of the Item class ).

Any idea why this is being added and how it can be removed?I'm having trouble figuring this out, I tried dynamicly calculating and setting the Item.height property but when I do that the Sprite is simply cropped.

I created a class, extended the sprite class, and now in the constructor I am trying to set the Sprite's width and height properties which are inherited from the DisplayObject. However, after I set this.width and this.height, and print the values, I get 0 for both.

What the heck is going on? When I view the livedocs I see that DisplayObject has width and height listed as public properties. I have been able to instantiate a Sprite directly, and set the width and height after it's been instantiated, so I don't get it.

I'm doing a simple rotation on a sprite but there's a weird behavior where the sprite does not rotate around it's top left. I think I'm rotating along the top left of the test class instead of the sprite child. I would like to rotate the rectangle around it's top left corner (kinda like a clock hand). The code is pretty short so I'll let the code + pictures explain my problem:

If I pre-set mySprite width and height before adding the numericstepper, the trace output is 0,0 after adding it and it is not displayed at all. Everytime I google this question I see confusing information about masks and blends, none of which seems to directly apply to what I think should be an easy thing... There are three Sprites involved here...the lowest layer sprite is pretty much a background. I want to overlay a translucent Sprite on top of the background and then I want the third, top-most Sprite to act as a hole, so that the area inside the third Sprite is completely transparent, so that the background sprite is completely visible. How would I go about doing this dynamically (i.e. dynamically drawing the masking sprite and hole using the Actionscript graphics calls)?

Ive got a question that feels like it should be easy but I cant figure it out. Suppose I have 2d grid of square sprites on the stage, lets say 20 by 20 (400 sprites). Another sprite moves accross the stage on top of the grid. The moving sprite and the 400 sprites below it share a common parent. So heres the question: How do I find out which of the 400 sprites the moving sprite is currently over? And heres an extra wrinkle: I lied, the sprites are not square they are of differing shapes so I cant do a simple math calculation.

All I can come up with is something like hitTestPoint(), but then I would have to call it 400 times wouldnt I? That is probably the most inefficient way to do things. Is there a function like whatsUnderThisPoint(p : Point) which will return a list of every sprite on the display list that contains p?

I have a game where i add some cartoonish ants, that when they are clicked, they need to be removed from stage. There are 4 differend kinds of ants, so im doing a Math.random for picking which one to add. (ant 1+2+3 have 50% chance to spawn and 4th 50%)

I have a timer doing 10 tick, and i reset the timer to make neverending. Then i have a math random and if sentences adding mc' to the stage with movement from Tweener, and event listeners for clicks. But i cant figure out how to remove them when clicked. I have done alot of failed tries right inside the click_candy_anty function. I've left them commented out.

Essentially, I've got a MC container that's created dynamically based off an XML file (basically for every <title></title> I've got, it makes a new "card"). Now within the context of each <title></title> grouping I've got <imgs></imgs> in which I specify the path to images that are related.All of that works perfectly, save for the external jpg files actually appearing on the stage. The MC I add them to does, but the external image doesn't.My problem is- I can't add the external images until they're completely loaded (or so it appears). The thumbnail BG I use is blank. So I know for a fact that the thumbnail BG isn't occluding the loaded thumbnails.
