when I click the parent, it gets click event. in the click event handler, the parent dispatches a custom event of type E. and the child is listening for E. obj.dispatchEvent() by default targets for obj it is called from. So, the event being dispatched won't reach the child if obj had one. Is there a way to send an event from parent to child? Better yet, is it possible to send an event to an object not in the DisplayList nor is a DisplayObject (the object is instanciated, but it doesn't have graphical role in the program)?

Sep 30, 2010I'm trying to build a class for objects in my prog that can by manipulated in various ways.. I want right clicking them to send them to back, and left clicking, bring them to the front.

When I run it, however, I get ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.So something's not lining up, but I'm not sure how to write it so it'll work.

Jun 11, 2005I'm attempting to get a variable to be displayed on a screen by the use of dynamic text thats been linked to a variable via the properties menu. The variable however is attached to a move clip and is within an onClipEvent.For some reason I can only get the varible to be displayed by putting it on a frame. So is there anyway i can get a varible to be displayed that is within a MC or can I use a command in that MC to change a varible thats stored in a frame?

Feb 4, 2010It might sound confusing so let me explain the situation. I made a movieClip. And in that movieClip I have a dynamic textfield set. I called this textfield "AmmoCount".I dragged this movieClip onto the stage several times and each time I called on the AmmoCount varible in each movieclip and gave it a different value. I get the following error TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.[code]
When I trace these objects, weapon1.AmmoCount works, but weapon2.AmmoCount shows as empty. Yet they both contain a value in them. Ive used the weapon1 property and weapon2 property countless times and there is no doubt that it works. so why doesnt it work for weapon2. but for weapon1. Below is some code that I called on earlier that shows they work.[code]these worked! but when I called on the AmmoCount text box within them, I get the error. Nov 24, 2005I am actually discovering Classes.I try to make a class that reads out an XML file and than converts it into arrays.the array is well created in the class file, but I can't send it back to the swf correctly: it only duplicates the first item of the array in an infinite loop, but when I trace it into the class the output displays it right..

Compile Send Don't Send Error On CS3?
Mar 12, 2009a week ago I bought the following monster template template:[URL]..my last changes to it were to the popup boxes that appear on the SERVICII page when you click those titles there. Right after those changes it compiled and published, everything ok, i did several other tasks in Photoshop then back to my flash and at the next recompile, Error - Send don't send Flash has to close. I reopened it and it keeps closing forced. I tried undoing my steps but nothing worked. I am desperate, the project is due completion on saturday and my source is messed up.
Can anyone tell me why I get that? Has anyone been in a similar situation.I am a flash newbie, I saw no errors in "Compiler Errors" or in "Output", just force closing the Flash CS3.
