I have been working on an aplication that will be used only as an in-office tool for authoring content.
I am just wondering how many listeners are too many for something like this.
Is there any way to use incremental compiling? I seem to have added alot of bitmap graphics to my library and I think I may have added to much over time and dind't notice how badly it was affecting my compile time. In my next project, i'll definately be doing bitmap graphics last. But is there a way for me to do incremental compiling in flash cs 5.5 authoring tool?[code]....
View 2 RepliesI have made an interactive application that runs on boothes that are 24h/24 running.I've tried to debbug it as far as possible from my computers, but when it runs on the boothes, it sometimes happen a bug.How could I log it? Is there a simple way to get what we have in the "input" window of the authoring tool into a log file?..... I've seen some tutos using the debug version of flash player, but in my case it's not working very well because i use some local and distant assets, and it gives me a lot of security warnings.

1. There has a subtle difference between a static text field in flash authoring tool which has been set to use the device font when it's got focus(state that user can type character in) and lose focus;
2. There also has a subtle difference between when it is being rendered in flash player and in flash authoring tool.(Note that the key factor here is setting the text field to use device font.)
I've been doing Flash for couple of months and I love it. I can easily use a rectangle tool to draw a rectangle and do shape/motion tweening within seconds.
Lots of people are talking about HTML5 vs Flash nowadays and I took a look on HTML5 Canvas today. To my surprised, I see whole bunch of "code". It's so complicated, they need to make a lot of calls (fill, stroke, moveto, closepath etc...) to make a simple shape. And even dozens lines of code mixing with javascript to do a simple movement???
Am I missing something? It'll make animation 10x more complicated with HTML5 Canvas than Flash.
Are there any review tools out there that can load swf's and allow comments to be written against them?
View 1 RepliesWe're working with a product called ProForm to create online courses that are Flash-based. It's a pretty cool product, created by Rapid Intake and using ActionScript 2 as the basis.
The problem we're seeing is that when we try to use this method to connect directly to Office documents, the links fail to open the documents in Internet Explorer. When using Firefox, they work fine, and soon after clicking the link the user receives a dialog asking if they wish to save or open the document. This is the behavior which we expected in IE, and which one can achieve by holding the CTRL button and clicking the link (and don't ask me how that was figured out, 'cuz I don't know). But when just clicking the link in IE, a browser window briefly pops up, then the thing disappears and nothing else happens - no file opens, no dialog appears, nothing.
I'm willing to pay for referential help (ie answering questions when stuck) as I build a highly scalable flash 3D virtual office application/site.
I have some code background in HTML/ColdFusion/MySQL and I plan ideally to host on Google App Engine using their datastore as the backend and the OpenBlueDragon port of Coldfusion for GAE as the middle tier.
However I am struggling with flash and/or flex. Specifically while I've learned a great deal of AS3 concepts and FB component coding, all the 3D engine (lately Alternativa or Flare3D seem to have become the leaders) tutorials seem to be Flash based rather than FlashBuilder.
Moreover, I'm presently working through the Flash and PHP Bible (though trying to adapt the PHP to CF code) and can't find any resources describing how to connect Flash CS5 to Coldfusion (they all focus on FB4 and usually a wizard therein).
And finally given the scope of the intended project I recognize I will need a framework of some sort but transparently lack the expertise as yet to pick/implement one.
In a webbapp hosted on its private server with linux(ubuntu server 10) , the users will upload documents(MS word, excel, powerpoint, pdf, etc..). We want to convert the files in swf(flash) objects , to embed them to the site. I saw a lot of websites having this future.

In this movie clip I have drawn a text field (area? well TEXT) using the plain "Text Tool".
After selecting the text, and after I have entered "0" to be displayed, I edit its properties. It's Instance Name, defined at the very top of the list I have written "score". The text engine is TLF Text and the text type "Read only".
When I have made a instance of the movie clip using AS3 I can't get the value of the text instance named "score" - when calling something like trace(getChildByName("score")) in the constructor I just get null.
I want to be able to get the value of the text "score", and I would also like to change its value.
Just how do I get the value from ActionScript? I don't want to have to create the text progamatically and position it, and I doubt that I have to.
I found that .fla files do not save in Flash CS4 when the Deco tool or Spray Brush tool is selected. Is this a bug? Or is there a workaround to this issue.

Basically it mounts a share as a network drive then runs through the share looking for swf files inside office documents.
im making a bone animating system in flash but then i want to give it a more vital animation by manipulating its z y x position how is it possible using the 3d tool?im doing everything needed but when i get to that point nothing seems to work,i dont get 3d tool options.

By "Flash-authoring tools" I mean "Flash Builder vs. OpenLaszlo vs whatever", not Silverlight or JavaFX.
I like the Eclipse SDK for other languages like python/java etc for writing code. But the Flash CS4 environment is not as intuitive (specially the editor). Is there any alternative for writing actionscript?

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to use fl.controls.Button under Flash CS3 to replace some "classic" custom button symbols with resizable ones with a consistent look and feel. However, I want to apply an icon to the button when authoring the layout of a particular frame on the timeline - but the only way I can see to set the icon style on a button is at runtime with myButton.setStyle(). Is there no way to customise style properties of AS3 Components when authoring on the stage, such that the preview in the IDE vaguely matches the end result? The 'Properties' inspector only provides 'emphasized', 'label', 'labelPlacement', 'selected' and 'toggle' inspectable properties - how do I assign style information at authoring-time?

I know how to do it with the as3 flash documents, but the filters do not seem to appear as an option for movieclips in as2.
I'm creating a component that places symbols on the stage based on text input by the flash author. The component behaves as expected when the swf is published, but doesn't update in flash authoring when the data is changed in the component inspector. Live preview in the control tab is checked. The component functioned as expected until a couple of days ago, and I can't for the life of me see what I may have changed to cause it to stop functioning.

I have an actions layer, a sound layer and an image layer. I put one image from the library onto the image layer and all I see is the border. When I test the movie the image is visible. This just started suddenly. What is going on? Flash CS4.
