ActionScript :: Flash And Timeline - Place Tiles On Table (hitTestPoint Not Returning)
Aug 17, 2010
I am currently working on a project that involves dropping objects (scrabble letters) onto different cells in a table. My project also involved multiple levels. My layout is rather basic. I have a a bunch of tiles (25 letters) above a 2-columns table (left side for definition, right for answers). The table is static from frame 1 til the end (no keyframe, blankframe, etc.). The problem is as follows: The exercise starts fine with the first Level, then I click a button to access the next level, and so on... Going FORWARD on the timeline seems to be working OK, I am able to complete each levels in succession. However, if I decide to go backwards (replay a previous level) I can no longer place tiles on my table (hitTestPoint not returning what it should). I checked and my "target" is indeed there but somehow the hit test does not register.
I'm trying to place tiles on background. I have a tile (20X20) on stage ( 600X400px) and I have declared it as a Symbol of Class BgTile (also have checked to export for actionscript), Problem is that it is working only partially. Some Tiles in the second row are missing and a (or more) tile(s) is(are) placed at the origin (Registration point is in the center) strangely.
function CreateBG():void{ for(var i:uint=0;i<20;i++){ for(var j:uint=0;j<30;j++){ var tempBG=new BgTile(); tempBG.name="tile"+i+j; addChild(tempBG); getChildByName("tile"+i+j).x=j*20+10; getChildByName("tile"+i+j).y=i*20+10; }}} CreateBG();
Which one is more efficient? Or is there even a noticeable difference? I did tests of a circle moving closer to a square and stopping when hitTestPoint returns true. The square was at 0 and the circle was at 500. My first test I did using hitTestPoint the entire time, my second test I did by checking the distance (Pythagorean Theorem way) and if it's below 50 then check with hitTestPoint.
I compared the FPS of each test but they were the same at 30 FPS with 200 circles and at 11-12 FPS with 500 circles. I thought the first test would be slower because I was testing every pixel the entire time while the second test I was only calculating the distance for the most part before testing every pixel.
How to make a table in Flash and enable the column headers on the table to sort column on click?I have seen some tutorials with mySQL but I'd like to start with something basic. Is a sortable table possible using just Flash and AS 2.0?
my main timeline i have an intro, then a main menu. from that main menu it goes to a movie clip, i want to create a 'back to main menu' button inside the movieclip that will return to a certain frame in the main timeline.
I have an intro animation inside of a MC on frame 1 of my timeline, when it's finished playing the 100 frame animation I want it to jump to frame two of my main timeline.I've tried root and parent scripts at the last frame of the animation but it's not working. Do I need to add root to the package?Even gotoAndPlay isn't working
How do I add delay in a timeline for the loadMovieNum to take place? To be more specific, I have all my layers in Scene1 and the top most is the Actions layer. Somewhere around frame 75 of the timeline I inserted a keyframe in the Actions layer to loadMovieNum but it doesn't seem to load.
If I place that piece of code at the first frame if plays fine though. I don't want it to play immediately. As mentioned, I want the code to execute at frame 75 and load my MC onto the stage.I bet its a very simple thing and there must be something I missed out. This is my first time working with Flash so please bare with me. Btw, i'm using MX 2004 if that helps.
I'll make a gallery of 122 images but I don't want to place each of them on the timeline or I can't call them, they should be included in the exported .swf or .exe file I guess what I need is something like an actionscript that would call the images imported to the library is that possible or is there a gallery like that?
I am fairly new to flash and I have been trying to make a product demo. Basically I want some text to fade in and then some pictures to show up one by one and then disappear and then some new text fades in etc. This is to talk about a product and show various parts of it as the text on the screen is discussing those parts of the product. My question is what the preferred way of doing this is. Here are the options I can think of.
Approach 1) Put all animation in the main timeline. All text tweens take place on frames in the main timeline. Approach 2) Put the text fade-in tweens in a movie clip and put that on the main timeline.
I have tried both these approaches but neither one has been working for me for the following reason.
Approach 1) Makes timeline very long and unwieldy. If one thing changes, it shifts everything over and messes up my whole timeline. Hard to manage. Approach 2) If I have a stop(); on the main timeline, my animation stops in mid fade. In cases where I don't have a stop, I can't figure out how to do a series of objects fading in one after another. Is there a way to check if a movieclip has finished and only go to the next frame if it has finished? How do I get a series of clips to play one after another when I am running them as seperate movieclips off the main timeline.
So, I'm writing an AS3 program that tiles floor tiles. I want the user to be to be able to create their own floor schematic represented by different rectangles. It'll be drag-and-drop. They will lay out their schematic (which is composed of different size rectangular tiles) and drop colors/patterns onto them.
This schematic will then be tiled on a 3D plane to represent what the actual floor would look like.
I've got the 3D part working, drag-and-drop working, etc. What I'm missing is the floor schematic stuff. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best solution, but I can't QUITE get there.
Here are some examples (out of a WHOLE bunch of possible combinations) of how the floor schematics could look:
The different tiles within the schematic are the droppable regions. My problem: How can represent these schematics in XML? Don't worry about tiling, sizing, etc. I've got that all figured out already. I just literally do not know how I can represent a tile schematic in XML and draw it correctly with AS3.
is the way to test for the mouse being over a DisplayObject. This works if my movie is displayed at 100% scale. But if maximise my browser window so the Flash movie changes scale, it all goes to pieces.
I am trying to use hitTestPoint to test whether the x/y coordinates of many circles are colliding with the pixels of another movie clip, but it is not working. It works fine when the ShapeFlag is set to FALSE, (circle detects the boundary box), but not when ShapeFlag is set to TRUE.I have spent hours trying to figure out what could be the issue, but to no avail.Class Ball - called by MAIN program multiple times to create instances of Ball and bounce them around the screen. If Ball collides with DQ (another MovieClip on stage), then it should stop moving:[code]
I've been developing a game that uses hitTestPoint to determine a collision between an ball and a shape. This method has been working fine if I just test the swf in flash but as soon as it's embed in a browser the hitTestPoint stops function.
Is there a way of verifying if the mouse is over an object like the MouseEvent class verifies, not by verifying with hitTestPoint? hitTestPoint calculates bases on the mouse coordinates, but I also need to know that even if the coordinates are over the object, there is not a second object over the target object.
How to make this smoke effect work without mouse input. I am trying to have it spill from the end of a cannon, & my attempts to modify the position have resulted in all my bitmaps shifting. I changed this doTrail(_root, _xmouse, _ymouse, currentBitmap); To this doTrail(_root, _x=80, _y=100, currentBitmap); [Code] .....
I have Adobe Creative Suite, but I haven't begun to learn how to use Flash yet. I work primarily with PHP using Dreamweaver and have a very basic understanding of JavaScript.I just discovered a really cool script here. The page displays a Flash image map of Africa and a table listing every nation in Africa. If you hover over Kenya on the map, Kenya is highlighted on both the map and the table. Vice versa, if you hover over the word Kenya on the table, Kenya is highlighted on both the table and the map.
I would like to duplicate this on my website. (It's in the public domain.) So I copied the source code, then began recreating the style sheets, JavaScript files and images. When I view the page locally, I see the Flash image (map of Africa). But when I hover over a nation on the map, it says "undefined," rather than showing the name of the nation. The table listing the nations doesn't display at all.
Does anyone have any idea how this affect is created? Can you offer any tips that might help me recreate it on my site? It appears that AJAX is another technology used on the page. That's something else I have no experience with, but I'm not sure if AJAX is associated with the Flash map/table function or not.
i have a flash flipbook, i need to implement HTML <Table> tag inside flash, how to integrate in flash, becoz flash accepts only basic HTML tag.. i hav FLA,SWF,JS And HTML File, WHich file i need to change...
I'm trying to learn flash to learn times tables, so I want to almost but not quite repeat things. I haven't done programming since punch cards so all the "how to get from Actionscript 2 to 3" is less than helpful.I've got a Game Design book but I"m not finding how to simply copy a chunk of frames to repeat (and then change how it ends to take one answer off).
I have a flash banner embedded in an table in a HTML document which is the company logo. What I need is a script that will display a jpg in that table if there is no flash plugin.
I want to add highest score table in my flash game ? I want to upload my game to web so visitors can play on my page and see how good they were. Im working with as2
