Actionscript 3.0 :: Preloader Finishes At Last Frame Of Movie?
May 28, 2009
I just followed the Preloader AS3 tut, and it works! Unlike the other sites
I have Flash CS4 AS3, and when the preloader is finished, it takes me to the end of my movie.
I'm a total beginner at this, since I've only been using Flash for about two days now , but I learn extremely fast !
In very simple terms, please explain how I can start the movie from the beginning when the preloader is done.
Also I had problems locating the URL to the swf. I kept getting "can't locate URL" when I inserted "bones.swf" for the URL request. I had to paste my files into the folder created in the tutorial for it to work. What is the difference between the folder I created and the one created in the tutorial that allowed AS to recognize the URL?
Here's my script:
var l:Loader = new Loader();
l.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, loop);
l.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, done);
l.load(new URLRequest("bones.swf"));
I have created a very basic preloader using flash components 'Loader' and 'ProgressBar". It's job is to load an external swf movie clip/file.
Problem: When the preloader has finished doing it's 'thing', i.e. reaches 100%, it loads/or seeming reveals the external movie already underway i.e. not at the first frame.
I've read a few posts from "Whispers", and have concluded that the problem is that the movie is streaming whilst being loaded. And also that i need to be using "init" in regards to 'listener'.
However i really want to be able to apply this to the code i am using it, as i had just kinda gotten to grips with it (the code).
Is anyone able to tell me what a need to alter to get the preloader to finish loading the movie COMPLETELY before it starts to play.
New to the forums, but was hoping I could get a quick hand.I have a preloader on frame 1 of my fla, and everything else comes in frame 2. When I use the simulate download setting when testing, once loading hits about 50%, the preloader disappears and the movie continues to frame 2. This causes a problem because flash then pauses and waits for the rest of the content.Could this be because I have movies nested in other movies? It usually pauses right at the point I have the menu mc tweening onto the stage. Is there a way to force the enitre movie to load at the beginning?

I do have stop(); on the 1st frame of the portfoliohome.swf, but It plays the movieclip(my intro) before the loader finishes. Is there a way for me to move the play head to frame 2 while I have the stop() on the frame 1?
The subject title pretty much tells it all. I've got a flash project where a video component plays an external flv file. I've got a different flv file loaded at each keyframe. Right now the flv plays and then it stops and waits for you to click on the next video you want to watch. I want it to automatically go to the next keyframe and start the next video.

I have about 30 very simple external swfs--each contain an image with tweened fades and rollover-to-pause/rollout-to-resume actions. They're loaded onto the main timeline one after another as a slideshow. It's an auto-play and loop: each image swf loads the next one on to the empty movie clip after it is done playing. (i.e., swf1's last frame loads swf2, and so on.)
This set up was fine until I realized that I should have a place-marker--something that indicates where you are in the slideshow. No other functions (go to next/previous) for the marker. I just need to show graphically that you're seeing the 5th of 30 images. The graphic is 30 dark dots that get filled in as you progress.
To do this, I figured it would be easiest if I designate 1 frame per image (=one swf) on the main timeline. So, frame 1 will load 1.swf and when 1.swf finishes, frame 2 will load 2.swf. This will make it easy for me to color in the appropriate dots according to where we are in the slideshow.
What I think I need to figure out is to "pause" at each of the frames on the main timeline until the loaded swf is done playing. They're all different in length--some are 50 frames and some are 90 frames long.
I almost had it figured out from massive googling, but I honestly don't understand it well enough to tweak what I've found to do what I want it to do.
Also, if there is a way that I can easily make the "place marker" work without changing the way it is currently set up (1 frame in main time line; 30 swfs that load one another), that would be even more awesome!
I am trying to build a preloader that goes to whatever frame of a mc that the movie is loaded (well...that makes no sense). Lets say, the movie is 50% loaded, then the mc will goto and stop on frame 50.
I'd like to know if there's a wait to have flash hold on a frame till a sound finishes playing. I'm guessing that this will require some sort of EventListener but I'm pretty new to AS 3.0 and I'm not sure how to do it. I've searched the forms but cant seem to find anything on how to achieve this either, but I think thats because I'm not sure of the correct terminology.
I am trying to make a webinar in flash, I have frames and in those frames I need to insert audio and when the audio finishes it goes to the next frame automatically. but I also have a menu bar and when I click on a button to take me to a frame i get a whole load of audio going on. I just need it to go to that frame and play the audio Just want to be able to have it play though, when the audio finishes it goes to the next frame or if i click a button on the menu it takes me to the frame i need,
Have used the preloader at [URL] and it seems to work fine however after the last frame of the movie it appears to flick (quickly) back to the preloader info, note I want the movie to loop continually. Is there a way I can add something that will make the movie loop direct to frame two and miss the preloader?
I have a movie that starts as the intro to the site. However, if it doesn't load quick enough, the rest of the site loads and cuts off the movie. How can I make the 2nd part play only after the 1st is completely finished?
I'm kinda new to Actionscript still and I found a code for an external movie (that's in an FLVPlayback component) to play in a container after a preloader - it can be seen here: [URL]..at the end of the intro clip, i want the site to go to another page automatically i'm having trouble because i think i'm supposed to use getURL, but i don't know how to tell it to go there only after the external movie is done. here is the code that controls the external movie:
Im loading a .swf application (using IE or Firefox) from an Apache server. The application then communicates with a local java server via XMLsocket.
the aplication runs perfectly on local (even with apache)
but
from a remote server (applying policyfile) sometimes stops/pauses when receiving xmlsocket dataevent which is usually a small xml message. It screws up a bit the whole movie.
Like the description says. I have six buttons, I want it so when you click any of them the movie clip plays once then when it is finished a specific url loads.
at first, I thought I could manage this myself searching the forums about "preloader" but none of the solutions seem to work. I think it has to do with the fact that I'm using the FLVPlayer with an external file. What am I looking for?
1. Well, the preload code for frame 1 that makes sure the external F4V (movie.f4v in the same dir) is loaded 100% before it jumps to frame 2 where the movie should start playing...
does anyone knows any way to code xml preloader? i need the XML preloader in the same frame.....not in two frmaes or with out using gotoAndPlay(); to next frame...
I want to be able to make a movie clip (that acts as a button) so the roll over effect finishes before the roll off effect is triggered. Like if a marker circles a button, i want the circling animation to stop before the roll off effects happens. Anyone know how to do this.
ok,so this is probably a stupidly simple fix, BUT - i have tinkered with it for a few hours now and im getting no where....i have my site tween in a graphic ( my logo ), and then the preloader pops up......the preloader is on frame 15 inside its own MC...inside the MC is another MC named loadBar, and here is the code:
function loadProgress(root:ProgressEvent):void { var percent:Number = Math.floor( (root.bytesLoaded*100)/root.bytesTotal ); loadBar.width = percent * 3;
I am just wondering if anyone knows how to make it so my preloader takes me to frame 2 of the main page rather than frame 1. I have added my code below. Basically I just want it to take me to frame 2 of main.swf (which is in a separate swf to 'main.swf'). Is there a simple way to do this?
[is there for example a way to insert a gotoAndPlay which deletes itself after its first use at the beginning of frame 1 in main.swf..
