If I try my swf as is it's functions correctly, BUT if I try to follow the gotoAndLearn Preloader [URL]my flash file is loaded by the preloader swf correctly but the catching of key press doesn't function. why the loaded file doesn't catch the keyboard press?I have to add the key_down listener to another object? I've been searching through code FOREVER and can't find anything helpful or functional yet. Right now I have a page that downloads a file to the user's computer when you click a button. But, I want to create a loader so that the user can follow the progress of their download as well as a way to go to the next frame on the main timeline when the download is complete.
I'm not really sure why, but whenever I press and hold any of the arrow keys(haven't tested other keys). My instance called player has it's x coordinate increased by 5 as my code indicates, but while holding down any of the arrow keys there is a split second pause before the continued movement of my player instance. I'm using CS5.5, AS3.0.

changing the behavior of Key_down event. in every tutorial if for example you keep left arrow pressed you object will move to the left for i.e 5pix all the time,constant speed. can you change the key_down so it will only move once no matter how long the key is pressed, after you release it and press again it will only move one time again and so on
With the KEY_DOWN event handler, if the user holds the key down it fires the event constantly. I want to create a KEY_DOWN event which only fires once on the initial key press, even if the user holds the key down.

I am having a weird problem with scope/reference. I am using a loop to preload a number of thumbs in one go, I am creating a different listener for each one on the fly and then passing event handlers for each one of them. This should not be difficult using a loop, but somehow I cannot access the the parent object on my listener and therefore I can't do much with my thumbs after they are loaded.Here is the relevant segment of my code. myThumb_mc is a temporary variable that does not exist when the loop finishes, you can copy and paste this code to test it though. It should work to that extent. (you'll need an image1.jpg to be in the same directory)

I just started working on a preloader screen that includes a preloader mask over a logo and a percentage dynamic text. I can get either or to work but not both at the same time. I notice that if I remove stop(); I can get the percentage to work but not the preloader image. With the stop(); embedded the image preloader works but the percentage doesn't.

i tried the tutorial that teaches you how to create a preloader....i followed the instructions and it still doesnt work! what's wrg?[code]on my first frame actions....i put the "gotoAndPlay (36)" cause i tried a previous preloader that took more than 1 frame and didnt want to change my button's "goTo" frames...but i figured it wont change anything..anyways, i put that line of code as my first frame action....by double clicking the timeline..then i create a symbol for that frame 1 and created an animation.

I'm wrapping up a small corporate website, but I left the preloader to do until the very end, so instead of changing any layout of my View, I just moved everything to frame 2, and put the preloader on frame 1. I'm using some of the code here: http:[url].... which seems pretty ace.
The problem I'm having though is that CS5's built in preloader is going and loading the whole swf, then it runs my preloader (on frame 1) which causes it to move strait to frame two instantly (I changed it so now it at least plays through the animation then moves on, but it's still not loading anything during that screen).that is causing flash to load the entire swf before even playing my preloader on frame 1. I don't remember having this problem in CS4.
Quick question, can an object get the same event listener applied more than once? For instance if I have myObj.addEventListener() and then later in my application I apply the same exact listener on the object again does the listener get applied on the object thus increasing memory consumption? or does it get re-written over?

We want to set focus in atext field then when the user presses the Tab key we want to see what's in the field and move on the timeline.When I put the code above into a new file it works fine but if I put it into my course file or even bring it in using a loadmovie it doesn't work anymore.If I use a simple on realease key = tab on a button it works in a new file, but not in my course file.
