Actionscript 3.0 :: How To Set A Simple Timer

I have a function (event.keyCode listener, the function will start when I press the spacebar) that will add 2 movie clips on the stage using the addChild function. But I want the second movie clip to appear only 10 seconds after the first one. Somebody know how to do this? Here's my code so far, but with this code, both movie clips appears at the same time :

I just want to create a simple timer for a car game which notes the lap time each time you cross the finish line. I then want to be able to use the "gotoAndPlay (frame number)" once either a certain amount of laps have been completed or when the timer hits a specified number.I have exhausted tutorials, none of which actually work - what im looking for is 'i think' actually quite simple but i am having great difficulty.... The car game tutorial with 4 parts which seems to pop up everywhere does not help as it is very complex and can only be used when the game is designed in the way that the guys has made it.

I made a simple count up timer, it is working just fine but I would like to have the %-sign next to the numbers so it would look as a preorder. But as I add "%" sign to the function, the counting never stops (at 100% any more), and continues counting.

I'm building a continous move in flash, and I'm displaying some text and images and want to hold the timeline for about 20 seconds and then resume play again. I'm trying to write a simple timer in AS to keep from having to create 10000 frame long movie clips. Here's what I have so far:

time = getTimer();
if (time == 20) {
play();
}}
Unfortunately, this isn't working for me, and 'm unsure why. I suspect two things,
A: my "time" var takes only a snapshot value of the timer and not a continuous value, so the timer never reaches the value of 20. Or,
B: I have somesort of syntax wrong and the if never gets a chance to load.

Any tutorials or source files for the timer. Just a simple timer that counts down by minutes and seconds for 10 minutes. The closest I got are a bunch of codes that I'm not really good at translating. Just a simple timer that will trigger the end quiz page when time is up.

I'm following a tutorial to make a simple game. The aim of the game is for a player to evade a flying enemy ; the higher the score, the faster the enemy. The main elements in the game are the enemy the player and a score card.However, from following the tutorial, and adding the dynamic text field etc....the score doesn't actually work.This is the code that I was instructed to place on the first frame of the Scripts layer:

I am working on a very simple game in Flash. I want to make all the animations framerate agnostic, so that I can change the framerate without affecting the flow and speed of the game.I read somewhere that if you want to do that, you simply create a Timer object and attach an event listener to this timer.
What if I have many objects that have to listen to the same timer? See the code to understand what I am trying to do. At this stage nothing breaks, but the event does not fire.Here is the Main class, the one that runs on swf execution:

What is the difference between Timer.stop() and Timer.reset() functions because it seems that the 2 functions do the same thing? I image Timer.stop() to stop the timer and when Timer.start() is called the timer starts from where it stopped. For example, if I have a 3 sec. timer (3000 ms). If I stop the timer after 2.5 sec. and start the timer again, I would expect the timer to expire/trip within .5 sec.

I have a ActionScript 3.0 project and I have a timer that is running on 1000 millisecond intervals. I would like to delay this timer for 1500 milliseconds perform an action and start the timer again after the delay. I thought I could do this easily, but I'm having trouble, would it be better to stop the timer and perform the action and then listen for the action to be completed to start the timer again?

Flash is not in my toolset, but I am an old Director jock and have spent some hours dipping my head into the Flash manual. I suppose that makes me a promising beginner-level poster. I'm working in CS5.
I need to make a simple Flash-based sound player for a website for a newly-released novel (http://www.bearriverbooks.com/index.html). I want the user to click on what appears to be an icon (or image), which kicks open a simple controller and starts playing a sound file (a radio interview, which I will probably export using Flash's voice compression). Nothing fancy. Just want the visitor to hear the sound and be able to apply simple controls (stop/start/rewind/volume).
I can learn ActionScript, I suppose, since I used to dream in Lingo, but my life would be a lot simpler if I could just publish a controller without having to roll my own. I'd like to think there's a magic button somewhere that can do this, but I haven't found it yet.

Is it possible to put a flv or swf on a frame and in a frame above or below or for that matter on the frame itself have a timer that I could time to be the same as the flv or swf.I would like to do the in actionscript 2 The idea behind this would be if I had a 30 second video I could set the timer for 30 seconds so upon completion, or in other words after the 30 seconds it would gotoAndPlay the frame requested.

Ik got a game with a timer. When the game is finished you can play it again and the SWF file loads again. Everything is reset exept the timer. A new one starts but the old one is on the background.
The timer is the only code thats on the timeline..
I cant get the timer working in my AS file...

I'm working on a simple catching game where you have monsters coming out from the corner of the screen and you need to get them with the mouse.What I want to do is change the rate at which the monsters come out depending on the score. The higher the score, the more monsters should come out.The code for creating new monsters is a simple timer event:[code]it works when I declare the variable locally within the function. everything is in the main timeline. I've tried a few different ways including setting how many times to run the timer but nothing seems to stop it if I use the gotoandstop.

I'm animating a sunset and would like it to pause for a few seconds between motion tweens. I have one "pause" timer set up in
actionScript:

but when I add another in a later frame, I get these errors: 1151: A conflict exists with definition timelinePause in namespace internal.

I would like to add a timer that keeps track of total time and also current time that runs next to my seek bar component for my flash movie. How can I do this? For example: 1:11 | 2:04 ... the 1:11 displays the current time of the movie and the 2:04 would represent the total time of the video.

how to make a crappy game, and one of them was a pause button , i managed to add all the other things in, but im absolutely stumped on a pause button. I read one tutorial, which didn't really help. it was talking about a main game loop and all that crap that just baffled me. i did try it though, and i did not get any errors, just ALOT of laf, becaus what i did was put all my constructor code into the 'update' function, so it was running my spawn enemies every frame ect. but the i realised all i need to do is pause my timer, because thats the only thing that really needs to be done right?
