CS5 :: Armature Shapes Disappear / Break On Load In Flash

Flash CS5 is the first version I've used since 8 Pro, so I'm new to the IK tool and adding bones to clips/shapes. I'm experiencing problems when saving/loading files that have armatures in them. I have made several characters now with bones attached to their limbs, which are shapes (not symbols) each on their own layer. At first the animations seem to work fine, and I can export a test SWF with no trouble showing the animation as it should be.

However, returning to the FLA after saving and closing it produces some unusual effects. For example, the shapes will disappear from the stage/clip and the only way I've found to get them to reappear is to select them via the timeline or their (barely visible) pivot point, then deselect them, then undo these actions and for some reason they appear again! More worryingly, sometimes the armatures will take on shapes from different layers, meaning, for example, I end up having figures with two right arms, even though the limbs and their corresponding shapes/armatures are on completely different layers. I have not found a way to undo this, so I have to start some of the limbs from scratch, then make sure I've published/exported all the necessary files before I need to close! m experiencing problems when saving/loading files that have armatures in them. I have a question about shapes (i mean the flash.display.Shape class). Is it possible to import Shapes directly from the library as Shapes and not as Sprites/MovieClips? Shapes are supposed to be faster than MovieClips/Sprites, right? So why is it only possible to import MCs/Sprites from the library? I understand that generally shapes could be created solely by actionscript, but in my case the shape comprises of many points and is curved - so it's quite infeasible.

Is there maybe some sort of plugin to generate code that would draw the desired shape from a drawn shape in CS4? And a last one: Are there any benchmarks out there for performance comparison between sprites/mcs/shapes? How much performance do i loose by using a sprite instead of a shape?

Actionscript 3.0 :: Reference Break When Load The Main .SWF Of The Gallery Into Another .SWF Within The Base Directory

I'm having issues with references. I'll do my best to explain the problem simply. I have a website I'm currently working on in flash. I've created the base of the site and most of its content. It functions fine. I went online and found a decent looking gallery that I wanted to incorporate into the site and it works great also. The gallery is in its own directory.

When I try and load the main .SWF of the gallery into another .SWF within the base directory, the references break. I understand that this is because its being pulled and the gallery's .SWF looks for its assets based on where its located. Is there anyway possible to make a .SWF keep its paths relative to where it is pulled from instead of changing when it is pulled into another .SWF from different directories?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Load External Movie Then Disappear?

I have an external swf load when one rolls over a movieclip. That works fine. But I also want the external clip that loaded to go away after they roll off of that. This is what I have for code:

I've been working on a AS3 script to control my FLVplayback component.  I'm very close to making this work.  Let me describe what I want to happen.On my homepage I have a DIV container where my video will be located. I want a still image of the video to load with a play button over it.Upon mouse over I want the button to change colors, upon mouse click I want the video to play.I have a .FLA project I'm working.  I've got a FLVplayback component, sourced to my .flv.  I've created a button and it works.  When you click it the video plays.I have 3 layers.

actions (this is the top layer)

buttons (has a button and progress bar)

assets (only the FLVplayer)
 
The following AS3 is set to frame1 in the actions layer.
 
I'm using FlashCS4, AS3 and DreamweaverCS4
 
Here is the weird issue.
 
#1.  While working in Flash.If I do a publish preview the play button with load for a split second and then disappear to be replaced by the still image.If you click on the center of the still image where the play button SHOULD be, the video will play.
 
#2.If I view this online.The play buttons NEVER disappear, however the still image NEVER loads.

I cant seem to make my preloader disappear after the MovieClipLoader class has determined the load is complete. I have a movieclip I attach onto the stage called thumbnailModule_mc inside of it I have the preloader movieclip (a simple spinning circle) and the image holder movieclip that the MovieClipLoader is listening to see when the image load is complete. When the load completes I want to set the alpha to zero and fade in the image. But my code doesn't work! the preloader stays visible.

Copy A Single Keyframe Without An Armature In Flash CS5 OR Convert To Frame-by-frame?

I am trying to get just a single pose from an armature layer without copying the whole layer. I just want the exact arrangement of symbols from a specific frame of the armature layer alone; in one keyframe; without the armature; into a normal layer. I tried a few things, like breaking apart and copying the individual keyframe (ctrl+click on the frame I want and "copy pose"). I thought about converting an armature layer into a frame-by-frame animation so I can just copy the one frame like I want, but it's apparently not an option. When I tried the break apart option it just breaks down the first frame of the armature layer into one big vector graphic. I've even tried highlighting every frame except the one I want to use and pressing Shift+F5. Nothing I've tried so far works.

This is annoying because if I don't find a solution, I will have to take each separate symbol used in this frame of the armature layer and individually align them all in the exact same position in the normal layer

This has been a complaint since CS4. Maybe you finally fixed it in CS5.5? I'm in CS5, and cannot copy a group of layers with the "copy frames" option as I would with any other layer(s). So a bone tool animation I've done on the main timeline cannot be copied and turned into a mc symbol. A simple, basic process. I can export my MC and import, then it comes in as stills, increases file size, not editable. I'm sure the answer is "plan ahead." The answer should be, "Of course you can do that, that's always been a normal method of working in Flash." Flash is dieing as a web tool, and falling short as an animation tool.

I am working on a character that I will animate with bones. I painted the parts (left them as vector shapes), kept them all separate from each other on different layers and not touching. Added bones to each part. Flash made the armature layers each time. This is all inside a movie clip.I now want to copy and paste each part with bones/armature into a new movie clip so I can make mini animations, like a walk cycle, for example with out having to keep redoing all of my work. Somehow - I did this once.

I selected, copied, switched into the empty movieclip pasted it and there is was - armature layer, bones with object. All there. Moves fine When I tried to do it with the next part on a new layer, it just copied the vector shape with no bones. It is making me crazy. How do I copy and paste or duplicate an armature? I did it once, so I can be done...I included screen shots of the parts and the new movie clip - the body went with the bones (automatically made an armature layer when pasting) the leg did not.Attachments:creen shot 2010-01-01 at 2.51.20 PM.png (38.1 K)

I've been trying to figure out how to add a bone in the middle of an armature.  Currently I have a bone from the neck to the shoulder, but would like to add an bone in between the neck and shoulder.  Does anyone know how to insert the bone without having to reconstruct the entire branch?

Create An IK Bone Armature For Raster Graphics?

I have recently been experimenting with animation in Flash, but now I've run into a problem-- whenever I try to add bones to a bitmap image I want to animate, I get a message saying that I "cannot link bitmap objects."  Does this mean that bones can't be applied at all to raster graphics?  I also tried converting the image to vectors via the Trace Bitmap function, but when I attempt to add bones to the result it complains that "the image is too complex.  Please optimize or convert to a movie clip."  I followed its directions, but it continued to complain that the image was too complex. As a sanity check, I drew a simple X on the frame with the pencil tool and received the same 'too complex' message from Flash when I tried to add bones to it.

I have a bunch of movieclips linked with bones, with the last bone named chainEnd, and the following code on the stage.

If I set an enter frame event to change the chainPos and then use chainMover.moveTo(chainPos) the chain will wiggle about and generally act like a proper chain. (I use this so that if the cursor touches the chain it will react to it) It works perfectly. So I saved it, exported it and then used a loader to get it into a different file that I'm working with. I figured I could load it in as a movieclip titled "chain" and access the variables through chain.chainPos etc.

This works if I want to for instance trace(chain.chainPos), but if I want to do what was previously possible (react to the mouse) it just won't work. I can check for a hitTestObject for anything on the stage, and I can check for a hitTestPoint against the mouse coordinates, they trace fine, but when I want to actually have the chain move the chainPos and chainMover.moveTo don't seem to do anything. (Interestingly enough chainPos still updates it's coordinates, so if I do chain.chainPos.x += (put number here) and trace that, it will actually change) Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew why this wasn't working, or could help me get this functional. It's a massive pain to have the bones/movieclips on the stage rather than loaded in as a movieclip, so if possible I'd like to avoid that.

why the png function differs from jpeg in flash when the break command is put to use.when i import a logo png into flash and then go to modify>break apart all .the logo then has a rectangle full of black dots and i cant keep just the logoso its hard to remove and keep just the logo required.but importing a jpeg and then using the command modify>bitmap>trace bitmap i get a good result with none of those multiple black small dots.now what id like to know is,if a png can have the command=modify>bitmap>trace bitmap applied to it.i would have upload a file for better explanation but...they have been disabled for a while.
