View 3 RepliesI have a layer with a bullet (graphic symbol) that flys out from the right and stops mid- stage, I am trying to copy this layer and have it do the same thing 3 times, to make 4 bullets that will be the BG for 4 text buttons I will make later, but I want to stagger their timing so they go with a sound effect.I am essentially trying to do exactly like the Duplicate Layer command in After Effects. Is there anything like this in Flash? I have even tried to do the more time consuming process of dragging another instance of my symbol from the library, but I keep getting the message "Do you wish to replace the existing tween target object", which also happens if I try to copy and paste the symbol.

View 1 RepliesIn Flash CS4, I have a graphic of a long filmstrip with 24 pix in it. I need to edit the symbol in photoshop (to put all new pix in), and then replace the current filmstrip with the new filmstrip. How? This is CS4, not CS5.
View 7 RepliesI have a symbol that I have already used and I would like to use the same symbol in another frame(s), except that when i edit the symbol the original object also edits, for example if i delete a part of it, it also deletes in the object that I have already placed, I have tried the 'duplicate symbol' method but nonetheless my symbol still gets modified and changes the way I want it to show it in certain frames.
View 2 RepliesWhen coding in the Flash IDE, i very often use the following procedure to create specialized versions of MovieClip classes:I design my object in the IDE, for example, i add two buttons and give them the instance names "btn1" and "btn2". Then i select them together and convert them to a symbol. I then select Export for ActionScript and give them a classname, let's say "MyClass".Then I go and write a specialized MyClass.as for it, like this:

(ps: i know that i wouldn't have to assign the values to the private variables _button1 and _button2 and instead could directly make calls to btn1, but I like to use only Typesafe variables in my code)
This works very well in Flash IDE. when I create a new instance of MyClass() it will contain all the elements that i positioned in the Flash IDE when defining the Symbol. This is very convenient and straight forward.
Now I want to do the same in FlashBuilder.For this i designed the MyClass Symbol as before in Flash IDE, gave it the classname MyClass and then select the library symbol and export it to MyClass.SWC
In Flash Builder i add MyClass.SWC to the buildpath and I write a MyClass.as with the same code as in the Flash IDE example. but this time, the code won't work. on
_button1 = this["btn1"];
i will get an Error #1069 stating that "btn1" was not defined.So - how to do this properly if developing with Flash Builder? PS: i use the default package in Flash IDE when setting the Classname for the symbol as well as in FlashBuilder for the as file.

How can I give each anonymous function a reference to each object represented by f, rather than a simple reference to f each time? Specifically, why is it that each copy of the anonymous function gets bound to a single reference to f? How (I should say why) exactly does AS3 differ from JavaScript in this regard?
When I click on a field to edit, the | symbol that allows you to type new text (for example, a timeline folder's name) disappears as quickly as it appears, therefore no way to edit anything.
View 9 RepliesI am having problems dupliating a movie clip. I can make a duplicate from an original but when I edit the duplicate it also modifies what is in the original. (I am just changing the text, thats the only difference between the 2) How come it effects both clips when I only change one?
View 6 RepliesA web channel streaming service streams to a certain IP range, it only checks the IP in example.com/cmd.php?id=xxx (channel number) and outputs an rtmpe stream URL, nothing else.How do I trick it to get my local URL instead of the one on their server? I have considered squid proxy, but is there some way to do it with a firefox plugin or greasemonkey script?
Edit:I will try to specify:It's a streaming service from an ISP and cable provider. They stream for free to people on their IP's. On their webtv page, which is called webtv.example.com, there is a flash player. If you are not on an IP from their ISP, you can't stream anything but the test channel.When you try to change channel via. javescript:videoplayer_changechannel(xxx) it makes this HTTP request:

If you are on one of their IP's you will get an RTMP URL, like this:

This is what the flash player requests, and if it get's this response it load the channel requested. There is no HTML on the php page, just the URL. Note that the rtmp URL is static.If you are not on one of their IP's it will return a random sentence (something stupid, the programmers having fun).I wan't to trick the flash player into getting the right value, even though it's not on one of the ISP's IP's.
I'm actually relatively new to flash and actionscript but I could say I have fair knowledge about them. So anyway, I usually build flash websites the traditional way using timeline animation and scripting. Today I had a job interview and they said they're looking for someone who can develop any web design into a Flash CMS with a back-end office for the client to edit the content without having to edit the FLA file or any code.
Accordingly, I'd like to know where and how to start. What are the main concepts I should follow/adapt?

I have a movieclip symbol (referred herein as "background" with scripts on various keyframes inside of that symbol. I need to hide or show another symbol (referred herein as "object") sharing a stage with "background".
To put it another way, I need "object" to be hidden when "background" reaches a certain internal keyframe. However, as "object" and "background" are both children of the same stage, how do I do this?
what i want to do is, when certain button is clicked, replace a certain symbol(button) by another symbol(movieclip) stored in the library. i try things like loadmovie("","") to replace the symbol from a external jpg, but some how it does not align even both images are exact dimension. can i replace an image straight from the library?

I have a scrollout menu for my flash movie, but each of the buttons have to be movies symbols. I try to attach:

But I get the error that this script only works for buttons. Anyone able to lend some assist? I suck at actionscript.
So i've done SOME work with flash and AS3, right now i'm working on a website for my boss, he bought some template online which has stuff laid out and animated and everything already, now I just have to integrate our content.My issue is this, I've got 2 symbols on the screen, one of which contains alot of buttons that list our services as company, the second symbol contains the content (or descriptions) of those services, which on are separate keyframes.What I'm trying to accomplish is that when you hit the button in "symbol A", it affects the "symbol B" and goes to the corresponding keyframe.For example when I click "button 2" in "symbol A", "symbol B" goes to keyframe 2.Now if they were in the same symbol it would be something like

I am following this tutorial, [URL] and everything works until i actually try to place a graphic symbol into another symbol. I am trying to make a character walk across the stage. Flash tells me I cannot place a symbol within itself. Why not and how can i!!

View 11 RepliesLibrary symbol "Card" is linked to class "Card" which extends "MovieClip". Library symbol "Card" contains a card background image.Library symbol "Ace" is linked to class "Ace", which extends class "Card". Library symbol "Ace" contains a TextField with a big letter "A".So we have Ace extends Card which extends MovieClip. Ace therefore extends MovieClip, but does not DIRECTLY extend MovieClip.When I drop an instance of Ace on the stage and compile the clip, all that shows up is the big letter A. However, I expected the background image from Card to be included, since Ace extends Card, and the Card symbol contains the background.It seems like Flash ignores symbol content unless it belongs to the top-level class being instantiated.I think it's LAME that one symbol can't extend another. The IDE could easily draw Card as a non-editable background while I'm editing Ace which extends it, and it should instantiate Card's content and then Ace's content when an Ace is instantiated.

I bought a template from someone with test in the flash and I'm trying to edit the words with no luck. I've tried double clicking on it and it brings up a square around the text but I'm not able to change it.

If I open the compenent inspector for the FLVPlayback, and then open the cuePoints dialog, I should be able to add, remove, or modify cue points. However, I can't edit anything in the dialog at all. It seems locked.The tutorial clearly states you should be able to edit the points.

All the cue points are listed, but it won't let me edit them. They seem ti be locked. I need to be able to edit cuepoints within flash for a linked flv file.
View 1 RepliesI have a IT background and have been able to alter most of the template by myself to the design I would prefer my website to have. However I have hit a snag, it looks like part of the flash website design is controlled by bitmap images therefore I concluded those images were under the sources within the PSD folder. I tried creating a PNG file and double clicking the relevant bitmap and then updating it with the new file. However after I perform a publish preview the the change made no impact to the design.
