I am using CS4 and ActionScript 2.0.I am trying to create a photo gallery.I have created 4 different movie clip buttons that reside on the content layer.Each button consists of one image.When the movie clip button is pressed, I want the full size image to appear on the stage next to the buttons.You can see the buttons in the image below.I am trying to create an empty movie clip holder that would reside on the main timeline while the buttons reside on the content layer.I need to get the images to load into the empty movie clip and then unload when the next button is selected?I can't seem to get the buttons to "talk" to the empty movie clip holder.I did manage to create code for an empty movie clip holder within each button, but then I end up with all four images on top of each other.

I would like to automatically load an external swf inside an existing empty mc (or a new one) and load/unload different external swf on several button click functions. I've been trying so many different methods until its probably loaded with irrelevant functions!

I have an issue where I have a movieclip with two frames, both of which have a textfield.
The problem is, when I call gotoAndStop(2) and try assign text to the textField in that second frame I get a null Pointer exception, as if the textfield doesnt exist anymore.
Code:

this.myLetter.text = "X"; //there is a textfield on frame two called myLetter

Its simple code but it doesn't seem to be working.

I want to create a preloader that plays a certain amount of frames as it loads the rest of the frames. So, I have labels on the frames basically and need a preloader to play the "loading" frames as it is loading the "content" frames. Does that make sense? I have no idea how to even start this one... p.s. I am using AS 2.0, but if it can be done in 3.0 easier, I can switch over its no biggie

Scenes - Organize The Timeline And Not Take Up As Many Frames Per Timeline

how many of you use scenes to get your projects done. I've been switching to a different scene for every new angle (I'm making a flash movie, drawing somewhat 3D perspective, and storyboarding it out like a movie.) I find it makes it easier to organize the timeline, and not take up as many frames per timeline. Are there any downfalls to this method? Because I'm early on in the production, and if there's going to be any problems down the road I'd like to know before I get too involved.

I'm having difficulty accessing a variable value within nested MCs.

On Scene 1 in the addFullPanel function, the variable panelNames exists.

However, I'd like to use this variable value within the MC FullProjectPanel in the switch function in order to load a corresponding xml file.

As it stands the variable is empty within the FullProjectPanel function.

I'm loading an external swf into an empty mc called "emptyMC" on my main timeline. That loaded swf loads another swf into an empty mc called "view2" when a button is pressed. Code:
on (release) {
loadMovie("tabletennis.swf", "_root.emptyMC.view2");
}
The above code isn't working right. I'm not sure how to target each empty MC in sequence in order for this to work.

I've been looking for a tutorial to create a timeline scrubber (not animating specific movie clips, but actually a scrubber that can move along different keyframes of a timeline that has a series of images on it).I found a bunch of these (scrubber controlling specific movie clips): http:[url]....but nothing that allows you to just scrub back and forth on the whole timeline in the exported swf.

i am trying to load a list of jpgs in to flash using as 3. eventually i am going to tile them etc. but right now my script goes through my for loop and just replaces the image i previously loaded... in as 2. i of course would change the name and depth of these images as i loaded them but i am of course not using createEmptyMovieClip or loadMovie etc.. so i am a bit lost..

I am trying to create and delete empty movies that I can load external .swfs into. While the below works if I get rid of

I can't work out how to dynamically name the empty movies, as the below just comes up with errors. I'm pretty new to AS3 and stuck. Any ideas?

I have an Array Object called extData_arr, that contains data read from a database. Using this data, I'd like to populate my subMenu MovieClips appropriately. I can elaborate on the format of this array if required but basically the problem is this. Now this line seems to work and displays correctly as I expect

but for some reason, on the following line where I try to create empty Clips, flash just doesn't recognize the value of i and therefore refuses to create the clips. Does anyone know why?

I have a main file running at the bottom (HD video of myself), and several clickable options (for various stuff on my portfolio). To show my digital work, I have a button that takes me to a frame label on _root. and a frame action that tells it to open a movieclip into a containerMC. All this is working perfectly, but it might be needful background info.

This section of my digital portfolio is a mock up of a mac screen desktop (yes I use a mac) / and I want to show my work as "programs". I expect to have 5-10 programs, 2 for now in testing. With no open "programs" at start, but I want the possibility of multiple open "programs", and when you open a new one or click one that already open but in the back, it automatically comes to the foreground (and does not close the ones already open - just like the desktop actually works). Obviously the "programs" have to be draggable too.

If i use this method to create an empty clip and then once i am done with the clip i unload the movie which was previously in it, what happens to the clip. Do i have to re-create it if i want to reuse the empty movie clip again with the same name?

GotoAndPlay And Then Skip Frames In Timeline?

I am looking for an actionscript that will go to a certain frame in the timeline, play several frames and then jump to another frame in the timeline. Basically, I want to use this on several different buttons that use the same animation sequence to get to another part of the timeline.

The following is a scenario, but not script:
Buttons A and B are on Frame 1. Animation is on Frames 2-20:
When Button A is pressed, go to Frame 2. Play Frames 2-20, then go to Frame 21.
When Button B is pressed, go to Frame 2. Play Frames 2-20, then go to Frame 22.
I am currently doing this in a different way.

Buttons A and B are on Frame 1. Animations for Buttons A and B are the same, but are located on different frames. Animations for Button A would be on Frames 2-20. Animations for Button B would be on Frames 21-39. So...
When Button A is pressed, go to Frame 2. Play Frames 2-20 and stop on Frame 20.
When Button B is pressed, go to Frame 21. Play frames 21-39 and stop on Frame 39.

Do I have to create this extra timeline? Can I just put the animation in a separate movie? How can I play the movie and then connect each button to different parts of the timeline after the movie ends?
