Flash :: Php - Ajax Calls Queued While Connected To Socket
Sep 19, 2011
I'm running into a problem while running both a Flash socket and using Ajax to load pages. Both work fine separately. I am able to browse my site using the Ajax calls, or I am able to send/receive messages through the socket. However, when the socket is connected for some reason the Ajax calls start to seemingly be put into a queue and never actually finish until I stop the socket.
If I disconnect from the socket, or close the socket on the server side, then the Ajax call immediately finishes and loads the page. The Ajax call never times out, it just waits forever, right up until I close the socket connection. In JavaScript, I'm using jQuery's $.getJSON() function to load the pages (which I thought were asynchronous calls). In Flash I'm using the basic ActionScript 3 Socket class:

I'm trying to implement a binary protocol between a flash application and a Custom Java Server using TCP/IP sockets, the protocol's messages are of variable length, so my idea is to add a field indicating the number of bytes I have to read before parsing a complete message, something like this:[code]if while processing a message (supossing it is complete) other data arrives through the socket, are messages of type ProgressEvent.SOCKET_DATA queued so the number of times my handler is called is equal (at least in this case) to the number of messages arrived or should I read until all data the socket has available? or simpler: are in general messages for a handler queued in flash?

I have a flash site that calls a JavaScript function to track events inside of the application, the _gaq is already implemented in the section of the html and it works perfectly fine with one account:
function customTracker(clickEventName)
{
_gaq.push (["_trackPageview", clickEventName]);
}
but now my customer wants to include special events from 3rd party companies and needs these to track into a different GA account. Before I try this out on the live server I wanted to ask if this would work:
function customTracker(clickEventName)
{
_gaq.push(["_setAccount", "UA-XXXXXXXXX-X"]); // the regular account
_gaq.push (["_trackPageview", clickEventName]);

I've read about WebSockets but they don't seem to be pure "sockets", because there is an application layer protocol over them. "ws:"Is there any way of doing a pure socket connection from a web browser, to enliven webpages?Here are my random stabs in the darkApplets sockets provided by Java (need java installed)Flash sockets provided by Flash (need flash installed)But about HTML5, Why are they called WebSockets if they aren't Sockets?

In one of our project we are using flex for front end, blazeds/java in the backend. Its an existing code where services are prewritten. I have to make calls to 3 services in the backend (basically 3 remote objects) and get their result and store the result in an object and show the data of this object in a view.
Now in front end we are using Flex and Parsley Framework. I was thinking of the following approaches.
1) Making commands for each service call and storing the result in a shared object (model) and then displaying this model in the view. In this approach the problem is some services are needed in some other web pages, but they donot need the same model. How should i handle this scenario ? Should i make a asynchronous remote call and fetch the result and then again dispatch and event with the event object storing the result.
2) Making a service call , wait for the result then make another call and wait for the result and then make other call, not sure if this is the right way ?

In terms of HTTP request performance should I pick AJAX or Flash? To be more specific, I'm more into Flash than AJAX and I'm currently working on a wide scale web project. I wanted to try AJAX out for once and now it's getting too messy for me. Before it gets more complicated I thought may be I can run Flash on the background for HTTP Requests and use it with javascript. I couldn't find any benchmark on the Internet, but I think AJAX is faster than Flash. So what's your personal experience? Is there too much difference between Flash and AJAX?

I have problems with facebook application based on flash which communicate with PHP using FBJS-bridge.When someone use the application for the first time, he/she is asked for various permissions. After that, flash contact PHP with ajax but request is never sent. When you refresh page, everything is working without any problems.If you remove the application on privacy settings, refresh the page and try again -same bug happens.If you allow application, refresh page, in other tab remove application and start application in previous tab - user is asked for permissions but everything is working after allowing application.This is FBJS code
function openPermissions(){
Facebook.showPermissionDialog(/*permissions string*/, permissionOnDone);[code]......
openPermissions is called to display permission dialog, and on allow flash function allow() is called. In flash, allow() calls JS function ajaxCall(), which should make ajax request. But, ajax.post never sends request. I know that for sure, because flash function parseAjax was never called and also debugging tools in browsers are not showing any ajax requests. URL and parameters are same as when it is working. No flash or JS errors are detected...

I am writing a simple Tcp server in Unity and have my Flash application connects to it.I found a great tutorial on threaded Tcp server online, and my flash app connects to it nicely. However, I am not able to send data outside of the listening thread to the connected client. I tried to create a global reference of the Tcpclient obtained inside of the thread. However, that reference (sclient) only works inside of the listening thread, printed Null to console outside of the thread. There must be something I can do to retain the TCP client reference for later use or access it from outside of block thread.

The main top section of the site is a little Flash thing that has buttons as links to different areas of the site. All of that is well and good, but whenever I click those links, it has to reload the entire page (including the Flash app) when only the bottom part changes. This isn't really a huge issue, since everything's real small, but it's kind of annoying.I vaguely remember "fixing" this behavior using AJAX during my web programming class, but that was just straight HTML and Javascript, no Flash players to muck around with.My question is, how do I overcome having to reload the entire page when someone clicks a link from the Flash object? Is there some nice way I can call something other than getURL() to achieve this effect?

I'm using AS3 to base64 encode a JPG and pass it to Javascript. I'm attempting to use AJAX to pass that base64 encoded string to PHP and have PHP decode it. (I know I could send it back to Flash and Flash could decode it and send it to PHP, but I'm trying to eliminate the need for Flash on the decoding end).It appears that AS3's encodeToBase64String() function and and PHP's base64_decode() function do not use the same algorithm, as PHP evaluates it as a base64 encoded object, but does not seem to output it properly

I'm trying to create a sleek and styled button that when clicked allows the user to select a file. When the file has been selected, an event should fire, allowing me to reconstruct the form. Also the file should be uploaded without reloading the page. Preferably events should also be fired for upload progress and completion.
Obviously neither pure HTML or JavaScript can do all this by themselves. I need to let Flash do the uploading. I've been searching around for a nice clean JavaScript library that implements Flash for file uploads and makes the aforementioned events available to the programmer. All I've managed to find are "all-or-nothing" type libraries that does everything for me, giving me little or no freedom. Often the upload interface is also static and in flash.
Are there are professional, clean JavaScript libraries out there that does what I'm after? To reiterate, I'm looking for a JavaScript library that uses Flash only to upload one or more files asynchronously and offer events to keep track of the upload.

I have an AJAX web service call that returns a chunk of HTML that I then apply to a DIV element on my page.This works fine for any html element except a flash video which comes up with 'Movie not loaded'.I've double-checked the html that is being returned and it's all fine, and it works if I don't use AJAX, but when I use AJAX and then add it using JS it doesn't seem to attempt to load the playlist.
