how to make Event Function Returnable??
function anything (e:MouseEvent)

I'm moving on to my next massive programming project and I'm trying to decide whether I should code it in as 2.0 or 3.0. I came across the new click event model in 3.0. Right now it's looking like a pain in the butt to me. So now I have to make a function and add it as an event listener? what the hell? What's the benefit? I understand stuff like this makes AS a more complete language but it's kinda annoying.
View 1 Repliesim having this errors:

i am not an action script developer nor flash designer, i just want to have a small action script sample that i will edit a little to make it interact with my javascript code. By the way, i want to have a button and a label on a flash form, when the user clicks on this button the onclick event will call another function 'setText for example' this setText() function will change the label text. So i think the code will be something like this:
[Code]....
I managed to put the button and the label i want just the code i will write to make this work.
I have some mouseclick event, and within the function that handles this event there's a combobox appearing. after the combobox appeared, I want to be directed to another listevent which is triggered when there's a change in the selection, but, I also want to pass the previous mouseclick event for there is some information in that event that I want to use within the listevent handling function.
As I understand, you cannot pass parameters along to eventhandlers, so I was wondering what is the best way to operate in this case. I've read you can make custom events, but never saw an event passed as a parameter, and was wondering if that's even possible.
I have a question about making a function for two different kinds of event. It's not critical but I would like to reduce my lines of code and just be more efficient. Basically I have a button on the stage called "Enter". I also want the user to have the option of hitting the enter button. I don't have a problem making these two separate handlers for these events (i.e. one handler for the KeyboardEvent and one handler for the MouseEvent):
[Code]...
When game starts, the car runs automatically. Then we click the SPACE button, movement of car stops. And the door of structure near car is available to CLICK.
But in coding I got this error code:
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter listener must be non-null.
at flash.events::EventDispatcher/addEventListener()
at shfg_fla::MainTimeline/key_pressed()
This is some part of my game code...
case Keyboard.SPACE :
removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,car_movement);
--street_mc.bluehome_mc.door_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,door_ready)
[Code]....
is it possible to write a function to move an object and then call that function on a clip event for instance
function (bounce){
script;
script;
}
and then call it by saying
on(mouseOver){
this.bounce;
}
I need to return to my original function after capturing an event (downloading something) with another function. The original function needs to return a value, which depends on the downloaded data. So, I'd like to pause original function for the time needed for the download and the eventhandler function to complete it's work, and resume it afterwards.
The obvious way is to set a flag value (both the original function and the eventhandler are within the same class) and make the original function check it until the eventhandler function changes the flag. But that would be wasteful, and my AS is slow enough already:) [other parts of the application utilise some heavy graphics]. Is there another way? Like an event that gets captured "in the middle" of the function? Or some other form of flow control?
is it possible to declare function this way
ActionScript Code:
function startShake(e:MouseEvent, num1, num2):void
what i mean is it possible to send to the function not only en event but also a variable and a second question how can i access
ActionScript Code:
function stopShake(e:MouseEvent):Array
this array that function return.
so today my question is how can we have 1 function triggered by both a Timer event and a Mouse event? 'm trying to avoid having to re-write/re-name a function just because I also have a Mouse event that triggers it and not just a Timer event.
Issue:
I have a addThis bubble fade in with icons on a button rollover, the addThis bubble will fade out after the timer is finished, but I also have a close button in that bubble which needs to use the same function that the timer uses. (want to avoid writing 2 exactly alike functions)
I'm hoping this there is an easy workaround for this like event:null or something.[code]./...
How could i call the same function within a function AND when listening for an event?
would something likt this:
[Code]...
this is the function i want to turn in to a static function. just dont know how to make it a static function and call it from other classes. i think this would have its own file.
[Code]....
ActionScript Code:
myFunct();
function myFunct()
{
[Code].....
Any way to get this to work without using much more code? This is for a function that checks to see if a user is still logged into a website. I need the check to happen every time the user causes certain functions to run, like create topic, submit new post, etc. I could put the code, which is only a two-liner if/else statement in every function, but it would be nice to just call a single function. But that function would have to be able to cause the function that's calling it to return to get it to cease.
Forgive me for this stupid noob question but I want to call a function (loadList) that originally gets triggered after a mouseevent from another function (addToXML) that does not have an event.
The loadList function takes info from a XML var, sticks it into an array which then gets loaded into a tile list and that is working fine.
The addToXML function when called adds elements to the XML var after which I want to call the first function with the event parameter so it refreshes the items in the tile list.
I know it can do this by creating a new array and loading that into the tile list in the addToXML function, but it be much simpler to just recall the function.
I have tried things like
Code:
addToXML.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadList);
but all the event constants I have tried give me error messges like "1061: Call to a possibly undefined method addEventListener through a reference with static type Function."
How do I make a prototype for a function like... mc.attachMovie() , or mc.nextframe(). Know what I mean ? the argument of the funcion is the mc.
View 2 Repliesan example when you might need this? Also what is this output? it hurt my brain
PHP Code:
func1();function func1(){func2(); function func2() trace(this);//[object global] }
[code].....
i have function that retun value and want to use it with add event listener
function sayname (naame:String)
{
trace("yourname is " +naame )
}
[code]...
if i use button to call this function i try
but1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,sayname("mohamed"))
but i doesnt work i guess because it take var( e:Event)
i have a password game where users need to select the correct 3 buttons to progress to the next stage. The 3 buttons that need to be selected are: pwd_btn1, pwd_btn2,pwd_btn3. After, the user must click on "submit_btn" to verify if they have chosen the correct buttons. So far everything works fine. So what i would like to happen is that once the 3 buttons are selected, and before the submit_btn is clicked, a function is triggered that will apply a glow effect to the submit_btn, indicating to the user to click on it.[code]

View 2 RepliesI know that I've done this before, but I can't seem to remember tonight. I want to fire a function after a tween is finished.
buttonArea_mc.buttonMode = true;
buttonArea_mc.useHandCursor = true;
buttonArea_mc.alpha = 1;
[Code].....
there are 2 functions in my code that dispatch a TweenEvent. each function dispatches the same tween and adds the same TweenEvent.MOTION_FINISH event listener. however, the event listening function must act according to which function dispatched the event. is it possible to get the function of the event dispatcher from the event listener? i could use a flag to make this work if there are no other elegant solutions.

I am trying to build a simple application. The first phase is selecting to upload a file from the user desktop or from the site's gallery.
The question is if the user chose to upload from the gallery, say, go to an PHP page gallery, choose a photo and then redirected to the Flash app. How would you trigger the Flash up to know there was an image chosen and it should load it?
Does PHP send a variable or create an XML based on a choice and pass it via Flash variable, or does it need JavaScript to tell Flash that if the Flash var is not empty run this function?
how do i use two event listeners on one function. For example, i want a mouse_move and enter_frame event listener with one function
View 2 RepliesIf you solved it right, a message pops up telling you "Well done" (or something in Dutch).You can close the message with a left-click.Now i want it to close with "esc" too (for the troubled users not realising you can just click).[code]...
View 1 RepliesIs there a way to get the handler(s) function(s) of an event listener?
I'm trying to find a way to remove them without knowing what they are.
For example:
ActionScript Code:
if (mc.hasEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK)){
// this object has a MouseEvent.CLICK listener
mc.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, null );
}
Instead of null, I was hoping to find some function that retrieves the handler function.
Does anyone know how to call a function setup to accept an event argument without triggering it through the event?
Example... I have a button with a CLICK event. When you click on the button, the associated function is executed. Now say I want to call that function from within another function. Is there a way to "send" the event information manually?
Right now I have the CLICK function simply call another function that would then be available to be called from any other location. Below is a code example of what I am trying to accomplish.
Code: Select allbutton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, doButtonClick);
function doButtonClick(e:MouseEvent):void
{
[Code].....
Does anyone know if there is a way to get the name of the function that my code is running inside?
Code:
_btn.onPress = function () {
trace(something);
}
this would then output "onPress" or something like it...
I need to use an onEnterFrame event to call a function just once. Here's the code:
my_object.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (this._y == 100) {
my_function();
}
};
So say i drag "my_object" to a y-coordinate of 100, how do i make it so it only calls the function once. Then if i drag the object away from y=100, and then back to y=100, i want it to call the function again.
I'm using the onEnterFrame event b/c i need it to constantly look for the object to be at y=100, maybe except when its actually at 100.
I'm trying and it doesn't seem to like it. I'm guessing it's not possible?[code]...
