Professional :: 'Parameter Is Incorrect' After Saving A .fla?
Feb 7, 2010
I'd been using flash cs4 fine for a few weeks before this happened but in the last few days whenever i save a file i'm working on i can no longer preview it (by preview i mean ctrl + enter) my cursor turns to the symbol to show it's working for a few moments but once i move the mouse this goes back to being my normal cursor. Whenever i try and publish a file i get the error "Parameter is incorrect". Before i save the work the file previews fine and even blank documents that i start and immediately save will not allow me to preview or publish them following the save
I'm running w7 64bit on a quad core with 4gb ram. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but this hasn't helped. My flash professional cs4 is also fully updated.I've attached one of my .fla files that to me i can't use properly anymore, it's just a basic animation of squares forming the words 'enemy down' on a black background.

CS4 was working fine for a few weeks, then yesterday I opened an FLA and got an error pop-up that said "Parameter is Incorrect". The error happened for all FLA files. I could save changes but could not preveiw or publish (same Parameter is Incorrect error as on starting CS4). I even made a blank FLA and it wouldn't work either.
Relized today during more testing that this error only happens any time I open a file that is on my desktop (running XP). Same file moved into another folder (Even desktop ewfolder) works fine.

I am using AS3.0.I have created simple forward naviagtion from my homepage to my second screen using the code below and a simple button (click1)
//handle events for buttons...
click1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection1);
function clickSection1(evtObj:MouseEvent){[code].......
Slightly modified code is used on consequent pages to navigate forward through my site.I have also created a home button that navigates me back to my first screen (called screen2) using the following code...
home_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickhome1);
function clickhome1(e:MouseEvent):void
{gotoAndStop("screen2")
}
However, when I return to the homepage and click forward, instead of taking me to the next page and the next page, it jumps me forward directly to the 5th. screen.

Expected no more than 1.MainTimeline, Line 551137: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected no more than 7.

I have created drawings in Adobe Flash and saved them as .fla files. However, when I try to save the files as JPEGs beyond a certain resolution (such as 4000x4000 pixels), the image gets altered. Essentially, it get's cropped, but some background is left in the remaining pixels.
Original image (.fla)

I've inherited a flash project @ work and I need to save a keyframe as it's own .swf file, but I don't recall how to get Flash to do just that.
The flash .fla file seems to hold multiple keyframes that need to be saved as their own .swf files, which are referred to in the Actionscript by name.
I've figured out the editing, but this business of keyframes i've forgotten how to manipulate.

I have both CS3 and CS4, I now work only in CS4 with some exceptions. If I open CS4 start a new project then save after working in it the file saves with the cs3 icon. When I doubleclick the file to open it defaults back to opening in CS3.Only way to have files default and open in CS4 is to choose the icon of the CS3 (which is really a CS4 file) and choose open with other, choose the CS4 app and click on it so it opens in CS4 and then only does the icon changes to a cs4 icon.

I have a couple of Flash CS5 users who are having problems saving files. They can open the file, edit/make changes to the file and save it and from all appearances the save has been successful - the save progress bar has popped up and completed and everything "looks" ok.
However the file changes were not saved. This problem is intermittent, however if it is occuring in the current flash "session" then it will affect all save actions performed - including attempting to save the existing file under a new filename. I've checked for obvious problems on the PC including disk errors and readonly files and so on but I'm otherwise at a loss to explain why this is happening?

I have created a simple flash animation for my employer. I basically have a square that changes color depending on which of three buttons are clicked. This is replicated about 30 times on the page. There is also about 15 circles that have a toggle button created so that when you click on the circle, they change between two colors. As I said, a very simple application.
Now, I need to save the data so that whenever someone new opens the swf, the current color combination is displayed. My way of thinking, with my limited AS3 experience, is that each button click, in addition to changing the color of a movie clip, should also send the data to a server. Then when someone opens the application fresh, I can use the URLLoader to load the most current data.
Am I on the right track, or am I missing it completely? I think I can figure out the URLLoader, but what code would I use to create the text file or xml file?Here is a snippet of my code:
var rtmColor:ColorTransform = f13335.transform.colorTransform;
var okColor:ColorTransform = f13335.transform.colorTransform;
var usColor:ColorTransform = f13335.transform.colorTransform;
[code].....
By clicking on either the rtm_13335, ok_13335, or us_13335 buttons, they will change the f13335 movie clip to the appropriate color (blue, green, or red). The default color is green.
What I would like to do is make the movie clip red, for example, then another person opens the swf, and the movie clip is red as opposed to the default green because I saved the current state to a text or xml file.

So I've got an .swf file embedded in a document (SMART board in this case, but a simple Word doc would probably serve in the same fashion). I'm trying to replicate the same functionality I see in another .swf. Basically its got a configuration menu where you can open and configure the .swf to behave differently, then save off and have it keep that. More importantly, if I close the document and re-open, it keeps the configuration. Harder yet, if I mail the document to someone else, it will keep the configuration.
Oops, its that last step that kills me. I understand how to use shared objects to save settings locally. I don't believe they're using server based shared objects in this case (no maintained server for it). So how can they be saving settings that travel with the document?

I have in mind a very basic swf file that allows someone to enter data (via dynamic text box), submit this data (via php), which in turns saves it as a file on the Server. This file (.txt) would be used to populate text on the main site. Most of this seems quite straight forward, and standard practice, apart from actually saving the data as a particular file and on the server (or overriding an existing file), which I'm sure comes up against problems such as FTP access and everything else, but I was wondering if someone might have an insight on how this could be done?

When the users loads the Flash File, I want the ActionScrip to create an XML file that says:<id="000000" tutorial="no" name="000000" coins="3000">Now, I want the flash file to see that the user hasn't completed the tutorial.. and if it says NO it should load: tutorial.swfThen, once the tutorial.swf end, after the final button is clicked I want it to edit the XML file so that tutorial="no" is replaced with tutorial="yes" and it loads 'user.swf' And when the FlashFile is reloaded, it checks that the tutorial="" says yes, and it skips outtutorial.swf and it goes straight to user.swf..If it's not clear I'll show it below:Load tutorialcheck.swfIf tutorial="" says no load tutorial.swfIf tutorial="" says yes load user.swf

I use a custom color palette in Flash CS5.5, it was originally created in flash 8. I have it saved as default in the swatches tab. Every time I create a new document it loads this original color palette. But after I save the file, close it and re open it, it always loads the web 216 palette.

With CS5.5 on OSX, after saving a file and reopening it, certain frames (and their artwork) end up missing, i.e. aren't saved with the rest of the file. This happens with random frames. Other artwork, created after these frames, is still there.

I'm using Flash CS4 & Actionscript 3.0 to create a grid with different objects that a user can move with the mouse. This is a standalone application meant to be used on a Windows machine. Is there a way to download and save the user's responses (viz. location of mouse, type of object clicked, etc.) onto the local computer without using the Flash Debugger?
I came across an article [URL] which states that it is possible to save local data onto a user's computer without a backend script (e.g. php) in Flash Player 10 but the article doesn't really say how this is done.

I've got a large(at least I assume it's large, ~200meg) flash file I'm working with that upon saving, it goes into the dreaded "(Not Responding)" mode. Is this a symptom of being such a large file? It's image intensive--I can try reducing the image quality--or is there something else I'm missing?I'm on a toshiba laptop, using the latest version of windows.

At work we've been having a particularly irritating issue with svaing flash files in CS5.After making some changes to a flash file, and trying to save it, the flash file simply doesn't commit the changesand keeps the earlier version.We believe we've isolated the issue to importing from illustrator (CS5).It seems if you copy any rasterized images, or vectors with effects on them (such as drop shadows, glows etc)saving starts to have some issues, the saving itself seems to work fine, but reopening the files with often result withflash being reverted to a pervious saved version.I'm not sure what is the exact cause of the issue, but I do think it's certainly linked to illustrator importing.Has anyone else had issues with saving, and it rolling back to previous saves, and is there any way to avoid/fix this issue?

Can we skip an optional parameter and assign value to the parameter after the skipped one?
For example I have a function:
public function Dialog(message:String,title:String="Note",dialogsize:int=99):void
{
}
I can easily call the function with a message and a title:
Dialog("HELLO","Intro");
Is there a way to skip the title and just pass in the dialogsize? I've tried it but can't make it work:
Dialog("HELLO",,dialogsize);
Is it possible to skip some optional parameters without using (rest) parameter?

Old Computer: RAM 128
Browser IE 6 along with Panda Antivirus
I just reinstalled the entire operating system Microsoft XP last night (package 3 was updated today). The O/S installed Flash 9. But, I went through all of this last November and saved the installation program. I went to a website that said I needed to upgrade to version 10.1 and allowed me to click on it. It would open a page to adobe where I could then choose how to download it (cuz I knew I needed to uninstall the 9 first). But this website automatically downloaded and tried to install the new one before I got the old one uninstalled!
So, I cancelled the installation and then uninstalled the version 9. But, when I tried to go back to adobe to install the version 10, the above message was spit out at me (causing me to "spit bullets" of my own!). I've tried to install it again but when I go to the download page, it just sits there and does nothing. I'm assuming my problem was caused by a "crossover" between the attempted installation of version 10 and the uninstall of version 9. The flashplayer version 10 worked perfectly fine on this same exact computer/system until today!

Please provide the feature to disable the system screensaver & power saving features while a video object is currently playing a video. I get this request all the time when developing video players and now that the netflix player provides this feature it is becoming a must have in the online video market. If you know other solution which does not require .net, silverlight , or any other browser plugin besides flash please let me know.

Well ok so, I've been looking, and I see similar things, but not really going anywhere. And I also can't make it happen at will, it just happens.But often enough to make it really frustratrating and scary to close a file.It's easy to explain what happens when it happens.I open a file, work on it for a while, during which time I've imported some images or wav files and placed them on the main timeline or movie clip timelines.I can test and save the file often while I'm working and everything seems fine. Eventually I close the file.When I reopen the file, the imported images are all missing from the timelines. It's very odd.All of the edits are still complete.The keyframes where the assets were placed are still where they belong, and the assets are all in the library.So I have to go through to each location and put the image or wav file back in its keyframe where it belongs.So far, it seems like after I go through this exercise once, it doesn't happen again.Here are the only details I can really offer.
Don't know about new files.The files I'm working on originated on a Mac, and they may have gone back and forth between CS4 anc CS5 versions, and finally are going to CS5.5 on a pc.I have seen this problem now in both CS4 and CS5 on both the Mac and the pc.It only seems to affect newly imported assets.Doesn't seem to matter how they're imported.Sometimes I use the menus, sometimes I drag and drop them into the library, sometimes I copy them from other Flash files and paste them into the current one.So far, I'm not sure that his problem has been seen on my own equipment.Just at my contractor location.Because of the things I'm seeing around, I'm beginning to suspect that this could have something to do with these RAID systems these guys usually set up, which I know virtually nothing about. RAID5 on these new machines.But I'm wondering if some caching of something is going on somewhere, and somehow not being saved somewhere else
I'll probably start trying some things like importing assets, saving,closing and re-opening before I do anything, or some such exercises, in an attempt to make it stop happening.Like I said though, it's virtually impossible for me to reproduce.It really seems to be one of those things that just likes to happen out of the blue.Maybe 15 to 20 percent of the time.Probably whenever it'll do the most damage.
