Im kind of a newbie in flash, and i want to fix on some components but when i tried to click Windows>Properties (there's no submenu) , it only shows the properties tab. no filters or parameters tab besides it. how to find them?I tried reading in adobe but it only shows that when you click properties in windows (or ctrl+F3) the 2 automatically shows along with the properties tab.
View 10 RepliesI've run into a bug where text (static or dynamic) is cut off when filters are applied. For example, I can create a static text object on the stage with a common font (Arial) and put some text into it, and it displays just fine. I'm putting a tween on it to gently fade it in from invisible (alpha=0%) to full (alpha=100%) and back to invisible. At this point, the text looks just fine. The trouble starts when I add a filter, like drop shadow for example. Once the filter is applied, the last character is cut off. For example, if the last word ends with an 'e', the 'e' character is lopped off vertically so only the left two thirds of the 'e' displays and the rightmost remaining third is not visible. I've tried quite a bit of adjusting things to fix this... adding multiple extra spaces at the end, increasing the size of the text box, several different fonts... nothing works except taking the filter back off. This is on the Mac version of Flash, by the way.

View 3 RepliesI tried to apply a filter to a video on mobile phones and had a strange effect:
When I apply the filter to a 24 FPS source video the resulting frame-rate after applying the filter drops to about 7 FPS. But if I use a 8 FPS source video the frame-rate is even lower at about 3-4 FPS. I expected an higher, or at least equal resulting framer-rate with the 8 FPS source video. What's the reason for this behavior?

i used to create buttons, and use the over state, hit state and used to use the filters that comes up.
Now all of a sudden, I am not able to get those filter settings, to apply for mouse over state, hit state and others in the properties panel.

I would like to create three different views of the List: One showing All uploads in the queue Another showing only the Upload items with Upload.type == "Update" and another showing only the items with Upload.type == "Create". Another example of this would be on an email inbox, where we could filter "All, unread, or read". I realise I could just create three different lists, one for each view of the list (maybe I'm just being picky) but I was wondering: Is there is any easy way to conditionally select the items to display from a DataProvider based on a parameter (for example type =="Upload") so I don't have to juggle three separate ArrayCollections about?
I'm trying to lighten the load on the users' machine as much as possible. Which requires less resources: using Flash filters for Drop Shadow/Glow or creating vector shapes for the shadow/glow with the Modify > Shape > Soften Fill Edges command?

View 1 RepliesI'd been using flash cs4 fine for a few weeks before this happened but in the last few days whenever i save a file i'm working on i can no longer preview it (by preview i mean ctrl + enter) my cursor turns to the symbol to show it's working for a few moments but once i move the mouse this goes back to being my normal cursor. Whenever i try and publish a file i get the error "Parameter is incorrect". Before i save the work the file previews fine and even blank documents that i start and immediately save will not allow me to preview or publish them following the save
I'm running w7 64bit on a quad core with 4gb ram. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but this hasn't helped. My flash professional cs4 is also fully updated.I've attached one of my .fla files that to me i can't use properly anymore, it's just a basic animation of squares forming the words 'enemy down' on a black background.
Can we skip an optional parameter and assign value to the parameter after the skipped one?
For example I have a function:

I can easily call the function with a message and a title:

Is there a way to skip the title and just pass in the dialogsize? I've tried it but can't make it work:

Is it possible to skip some optional parameters without using (rest) parameter?
I am working as a teacher in Singapore and I am currently doing a project for our school. I am using the Adobe CS4 Design Premium. I am using Adobe Flash CS4 for the project I am doing. Adobe Flash CS4 crash often and after the latest crash and when I open up my project i got an error which is "parameter is incorrect" and when I press ctrl+enter, it didn't pulish the file and I have noticed that the swf file that was created before is gone after I press CTRL+enter.

I just reinstalled the entire operating system Microsoft XP last night (package 3 was updated today). The O/S installed Flash 9. But, I went through all of this last November and saved the installation program. I went to a website that said I needed to upgrade to version 10.1 and allowed me to click on it. It would open a page to adobe where I could then choose how to download it (cuz I knew I needed to uninstall the 9 first). But this website automatically downloaded and tried to install the new one before I got the old one uninstalled!
So, I cancelled the installation and then uninstalled the version 9. But, when I tried to go back to adobe to install the version 10, the above message was spit out at me (causing me to "spit bullets" of my own!). I've tried to install it again but when I go to the download page, it just sits there and does nothing. I'm assuming my problem was caused by a "crossover" between the attempted installation of version 10 and the uninstall of version 9. The flashplayer version 10 worked perfectly fine on this same exact computer/system until today!
I am trying to read a XML file and check a parameter for duplicates of that parameter in the file. There could be up to 200 entries with this parameter which is a number. How can I check to see if there are any duplicates?

My main project loads an external .swf ("room") depending on which button the user clicks. Once that external .swf ("room") is loaded, the viewer chooses a ("demo") .swf to view. For each button click, a loader is to appear showing the viewer that the desired room or demo is loading. All of this works fine for the web...please click the link below to view. The problem exists when I try to publish as an .EXE. We'd like to send these out to prospects on CD and thus I need an .EXE to autorun when insterted in a PC. I've publised the main .SWF (overhead map) as an .EXE and burned a cd containing all necessary files. Now when the user clicks a room and then a demo, the loader that shows up fine on the web does not appear.

I changed one certain symbol in my libray and when i exported the movie (after changing) i dont see the changes in my website. Other buttons, symbols etc immediatly show there adjustments and this just keeps on remaining the same?
View 7 RepliesForgive me for this stupid noob question but I want to call a function (loadList) that originally gets triggered after a mouseevent from another function (addToXML) that does not have an event.
The loadList function takes info from a XML var, sticks it into an array which then gets loaded into a tile list and that is working fine.
The addToXML function when called adds elements to the XML var after which I want to call the first function with the event parameter so it refreshes the items in the tile list.
I know it can do this by creating a new array and loading that into the tile list in the addToXML function, but it be much simpler to just recall the function.
I have tried things like

but all the event constants I have tried give me error messges like "1061: Call to a possibly undefined method addEventListener through a reference with static type Function."
I have a textbox where there should be a 1 to 5 star classification for a movie, so I used the star symbol (character code 0xAB) from the Wingdings Symbol Font. But instead of the stars, What I get is double angular quotes in Arial, the corresponding character in a normal text font: «
In fact, every Wingding character above 0x80 (included) is displayed in Arial instead of Wingdings. This also seems to happen with all Symbol fonts.
I've also made Wingdings into a font symbol but the problem still happens. It also happens in static text boxes.
To reproduce the error just make a text box and set the font to Wingdings. Now type something and it shows in Wingdings but press ALT+0171 (or copy the star from the Character Map app) and instead of a star, you get double angular quotes.
The original flash has a publish setting to Flash Player 5, and I have to have the publish setting set to Flash Player 8 (actionscript 2). The original flash works with the Flash Player 5 setting however when I change it the rollover text to picture stops working.

I am having a major problem with the news slide show I want to make, Mainly It's a news slide show where the images source is an external folder connects to flash using Xml.Everything is working, but what I want is to make buttons related to the current slides where it changes it's appearance as the slide changes.
I've tried alot, but I guess I am lacking some knowledge when it comes to action script.

View 2 RepliesI have 3 movie clips (Header_mc, Logo_mc, Introduction_mc) which all comes animating on stage at one time. Which looks all mess. What I would like is.
1)Logo.mc (Instance Name:Logo) comes on stage first after 5 Seconds
2)Header_mc (Instance Name:Header) should come second ater 5 Seconds
3)Introduction_mc (Instance Name: Introduction) should come at last
and I would like to do it all by using Actionscript 3.0 instead using Timeline in movieclip itself.
In CS5, when typing names for each layer in the Timeline, it only shows a certain number of the characters. Is there a way to see more of the characters to see what the names of each layer are?
View 1 RepliesI CANNOT see my image files when I import them. This is the case regardless of whether I import them directly from my image files, or from my Flash library. They WILL NOT show up in the stage area, although the panel on the right shows the file! What can I do to correct this? I am using Flash CS4 which I need for my Digital Design classes through the Art Institute of Pittsburgh! I will FAIL this course if I can't get this program to work properly!!

I see the loading progress percentage correctly run, at the end rotator_mc and counter_txt are removed from the stage, but the loaded movieclip is not added to the stage, or at least I can't see it.
