Professional :: Flash Brush Tool Grayed Out?
Jul 9, 2011for one reason or another, my brush tool only allows me to select color and smoothing. Stroke, style, scale, and everything else is grayed out and will not let me change it.

Jan 24, 2011I have an issue with my Cintiq not drawing smoothly in Flash. I need to sketch incredibly fast and loose. Flash used to work just fine but now it suddenly began drawing really crummy. I posted some examples of flash as well as Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro, and ToonBoom Animate Pro which is another vector graphics tool. I thought the vector graphics may be the issue but that app seems to handle the drawing excellently (now if only it did the other things Flash can do). Here's some examples of how they're looking. It may be hard to tell in these already loose sketches but the performance drop is really a big difference in responsiveness between Flash vs the other apps here:[code]Does anyone know why my cintiq is causing flash to draw so poorly? Feb 22, 2010bit of a noob at flash, so I've been having a bit of a difficulty in using the pencil/brush tool in drawing an animation. I set a keyframe, and paint a yellow stroke. Then i continue onto the next key. I then go back to the first keyframe, and want to paint a black stroke over part of the yellow stroke i made earlier.
after selecting this first frame (making the layer active), I go to change the stroke color of the brush to black but find that it now changes my yellow stroke (which I want to keep yellow) to black. I see that in selecting the frame, by default whatever strokes were made on this frame are also selected (which I don't want). So I'd like to know how do I avoid altering my previous stroke and still put a different colored stroke overlapping it on the same frame?
also is it possible to append a brush/pencil stroke to an old brush/pencil stroke?

Feb 15, 2011I'm doing some masking with the brush tool. Each keyframe I'm drawing a bit more of the mask. My problem is if I go back to the first keyframe and paint something it doesn't appear on the other keyframes.I thought I found the solution with Edit Multiple Frames, but it doesn't seem to work with the brush tool.

If I make a dot with the brush tool on the first frame and a circle on the 15th frame and then create shape tween between those frames it looks stupid, like the circle grows itself. Is there any possibility of making such a thing except for drawing it per frame?

Nov 17, 2010When I use the Flash CS4 brush tool in "Paint Inside" mode it erases part of the strokes around shapes. For rectangles it erases the stroke on the top and left hand side where the brush head crosses it, though it never seems to affect the other sides. The effect is less consistant with ovals, but it breaks the strokes at some points. I am using Flash CS4 version 10.0.2 on Windows XP, and I have checked for program updates through the Help menu. Aug 27, 20091. How can I change the size of the brush tool? It's all greyed out on every project I start, stuck at the very smallest size (0.10). I'm trying to trace over a photo at the moment, and it's taking FOREVER with the tiny little brush. May 8, 2010When I try to use the deco brush in CS5 some of the properties are not there to tweak. For instance when I try to flower brush it creates flowers but the advanced options are not changable. The categories such as Flower color, Flower size, Leaf color Leaf size and Fruit color are there but there are no options to change any of these. The same issue happens with the lightning brush, the Tree brush, the smoke brush, the decorated brush, the fire brush and just about any brush except for the grid brush which has options to use a symbol. Is there something I am doing wrong? Is there a way to get the settings to be invoked? Is it just broken?

Apr 7, 2010I've imported a gif file into flash, traced it into the bitmap, made 24 symbols from 25 I wanted, I've distributed them into timeline, made a simple animation from few layers just for fun, when I made a new symbol it was from the first frame, only there was possible to see all graphic and select a new symbol, however now when I click on the first frame the last part of graphics that I want to convert to symbol is grey and I'm not able to select it (picture 4, the small grey stains), however with a selection tool it is possible to change a shape of the "stain". Other miracle I don't understand is the magenta square in left up corner, picture3 (it occurs only from 2nd frame), in library no symbol has this square.

Jun 28, 2010Why are the scale x and y options grayed out on the motion editor? I tried editing width and height (W&H) in the "properties panel" under "position and size" and all that does is move the position my object diagonally for some reason, not scale the size. Also, when i do this, the Width number does not change, but the x and y position numbers above it change. Strange!

Apr 19, 2011I'm having trouble with the Flash CS5 Bone Tool, Everytime I create 2 sets of objects whether its legs or arms, when I duplicate them. break them apart and make a second set of arms and legs, the two characters I assign them to, swap around when I saved them. So one has arms instead of legs and legs instead of arms, but the other character is completely unaffected. I move the bones within the symbols and they return to normal but then it affects the other character and vice versa.

Jun 27, 2011I recently installed the CS5 Master Collection on my MacPro for work. I need to use Flash CS5 in order to work on some projects in the office, however I'm encountering several issues that make it near impossible for me to use the software. First of all, when I start the program and select "New..." and select any type of new file, I'm greeted by nearly every button being greyed out, to where I cannot select them. I've found out that I can make these buttons usable by changing my workspace in Flash.
The issue that's causing me trouble is that whenever I select any sort of "Drawing" tool, Flash CS5 crashes immediately. Whenever I click on the line, pen, circle, rectangle, pencil, or brush tools, CS5 freezes briefly (about 2-3 seconds) and then immediately closes. I can still use tools such as the Pan tool, zoom, text, and selection tool. Also, whenever I select the Spray Can tool, I get the following error:
Unable to load the script. The file <filepath>/ProScripts/sprayBrush.jsx does not exist.
I have already tried updating my system, updating every Adobe product on this machine, reinstalling, and even using a seperate installation CD, but everything thus far has yielded the same results.
Info on my system:
MacPro running OS X V. 10.6
2 x 2.26 GHx quad-core proocessors
12 GB DDR3

With one fla opened, i select "ESSENTIAL" in workspace, the interface, turn on, but when i select a draw tool orchange any preference on Flash CS5 Trial on Snow Leopard, the flash allways crash and close without message. Flash :: Unstable Brush Sensitivity CS4?
Oct 2, 2009I have found in my experience with Flash CS4 and using a Wacom tablet or Cintiq that the brush sensitivity is unstable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. As long as I open Flash and do not change the brush size, then the sensitivity stays just fine. If I change the brush size then sensitivity disappears and all I can draw is solid lines of a single width.
I contacted Wacom and was on the phone for two hours. After trying every possible fix, we decided it was a Flash error, since Photoshop works. Other machines were tested, other tablets were swapped in and out, new pens were tried, they all had the same problem.
I contacted Adobe and this was their response: "As I understand that you want to use Flash on Wacom and brushes lack pensensitivity . I understand this issue & i found that brushes lackpen sensitivity because it is not compatible with wacom tablet."
This is news to me that Adobe decided to not support Wacom tablets with Flash. Is this for real? I responded saying that the response sounded wrong.

Jun 24, 2009I am finding that my flash object is not displaying properly in preview or after export. I basically have a long restaurant menu that is 748 wide by 2039 high full of static text. When I preview/export only the top 3/4 of the text are displayed, the lower end portion is blank. This text field is layered on top of a background jpg, which lies of top of the stage. I've made sure the stage's dimension covers exactly everything. My footer shows up properly, as well as the stage itself. Its just the lower portion of texts that is the problem.I should also mention that the height selection is grayed out with this text field I have. I tried creating a new smaller text field but again, its grayed out.

Nov 13, 2009I dont know whats up with this... but all of a sudden today, in my flash cs4 (mac and PC versions) When i go to open a fla in flash to work on it, i select a text box... in the properties window under position and size --- HIEGHT-(selection hieght) value is grayed out... I opened fla's that i had don before but this also now affects them as well. I tried opening on my PC .. now it does the same thing.
