I would like to know my options for opening the movie. What we would like is to have a link at the bottom of the page, and when clicked, the movie opens. We prefer not to simply use the html file which may be easier for what we want. Is it possible to open the movie from an HTML link? I'm guessing no.

I have several movie clips on scene and it would be great to be able to tell where the scene ends, without opening each movie clip, adding their length to the starting frame and comparing them, which one will last the longest in the end.

1- Show Song Name
2- Show Singer name

Whenever I am trying to open a swf file (any swf file) or test a movie from the flash ide the internal player is blank and output has the msg error opening url "the path of the swf file here".This is not a problem that has to do with loading external files etc. It just refuses to open any swf file and ofc or test any movie cause it keeps saying error in opening url even in blank movies.
The simplest thing New File -> AS3 -> Test Movie -> Error in opening url I can publish the movie with no problem at all and I can run all the swf files outside of flash ide. I can debug movie from flash ide. I can html preview it from flash ide but i can't just hit cmd+enter to test the fraking movie.
Im building a program that queries a database for options and displays the options in a number of comboBoxes. The comboBoxes are dynamically built and loaded via code and added to the stage. I would like to build the comboBoxes into a single movie clip (maybe not the correct wording) so I can use options like tweening and such to make it look better. The code is below.

I just bought Flash CS5 for own computer. I already have CS4 on the computer at work. Unfortunately I get an error when I tried to open a CS5 project in the CS4 at work. My boss is unwilling to buy CS5. Is it truly so that you cannot open a CS5 project in CS4 or is there a way to adjust a project in both systems.

I'm trying to avoid doing the whole thing in Flash, so the home page is a CSS/HTML header page that will house a looping flash piece underneath the header, and the inner portfolio will be flash pieces brought into the same CSS header framework.I'd like to know what kind of code I need to use in the portolio flash navigation so that the "home" link will open the CSS/HTML home page in its same window, rather than launching another window. Is this something that can be done using AS3, or do I need javascrpt as well?

1) files are excrutiatingly slow to open, close, save, and switch between
2) I currently have a series of about 15 files open and I'm trying to close them - I click "don't save" but the files won't close - it's like I've clicked cancel. I have removed the external media these files were originally on, but if not trying to save the file, why can't Flash just close them and make them go away?
Im always encountering this same bug since I got Flash CS5 everytime I open multiple files on Flash, my instance names lock in this case I have to restart flash and pray the instance names wont lock up again... It's really getting annoying because I could be working on up to 10 files at a time which forces me to individually open each file everytime I start my project.

We have Flash movie in one domain and accessed from other Domain. The links in Flash movie was not working and with security restricitions we cannot use 'allowscriptaccess'.
So, we used System.security.loadPolicyFile [URL]; and included the XML in our assets. This worked for the links to open in New Window. But, when the links were changed to open in the same window, the links are working in Flash Player versions till 9.2XIn the versions, 9.4X+, it is not working.
I hope someone here can help me figure out why my Flash CS4 on a Mac 10.6.2 machine crashes unexpectedly every time I open a file. (I have posted the entire crash log below) The program will open, and even stay open when I choose a .fla file for about 5-10 seconds and then CRASH every time. For what it's worth, all my other design collection programs work fine.I have tried uninstalling and reinstalled the Flash app., but it didn't do anything. I have also tried deleting all preference files and application support files in my user, and the problem persists.Does anyone have any ideas? We've designed a flash application to run on the kiosk to display information about our business, our publications, etc. We'd also like to be able to access our website through the flash application. We're having trouble figuring out how to do that effectively. The best we can do is to have the application launch Internet Explorer in a seperate window. This isn't so bad if we run IE in kiosk mode, however it becomes difficult/impossible to navigate back to the flash application (or to close the browser) without a mouse and keyboard (which users won't have access to).Wondering if there's a way to open or access a browser inside of the actual flash application, so users can access the flash menu, home buttons, etc and easily navigate back to the information contained in the rest of the flash application.

On mouseOver, the Flash objects will play a movieclip in place. On MouseEvent.CLICK, I would like the Flash objects to make the html page create a new iFrame with embedded .mov movie file in a lightbox effect.
I can't seem to get it to work. I have tried ExternalInterface.call(), navigatetoURL(), I have tried simulating a click event in javascript. Essentially, I want a mouse-click that is captured in Flash to open a jquery/javascript-lightbox in an iframe.
I am having a problem with CS3 Flash and the toolbar on the left. Certain tools have options and those options are not showing up. Yes, I went to Customize Tools panel and checked and those options are listed to the right of each tool that should have them (Example: Rectangle tool: oval tool, polystar tool , etc) and even hit reset to default and still those options do not show up on the actual toolbar. I made a graphic thinking that would make them show up and no it didn't.
It seems to be a problem for each tool that has a options and they are
1. Free Transform Tool,
2. Pen tool and
3. Rectangle tool.
I made a simple website with a flash menu, that opens internal links in an iframe. However, I have a few other (not included in the menu) external links, which open in the same iframe. And after I click on one of them and it loads in the iframe, the buttons on the menu stop working. I'm beginning to think it has something to do with the internet explorer, since it works on some computers. But I'm not sure... not very good at this.
View 5 RepliesI'm using the Flash CS4 IDE, and the first page of my site takes a lot longer to load than I want it to. So I wanted to go through the varied images / symbols / movie clips / sounds and so on to see where all the memory is being chewed up. When I go into my library, however, I can see the Name, LInkage, usecound and Type of my elements, but no mention of file size and I can't seem to find any right click menu that lets me add file size to the list of details being displayed. Is there a way to make it show file size? Or some workaround? And are there any best practices to reduce file size aside from using symbols for anything that's used more than once and reducing image and sound quality?
View 4 RepliesWhat parameters are required to set an Audio file to Streaming? I have imported both an mp3 file and a WAV file into the library. clicking on a keyframe, I drag either th emp3 or WAV file onto the stage. The audio file can be seen on the timeline. If I set the sync to Event, both of the audio file will play no problem.
If I set eithe of the audio files to Stream, nothing happens, no audio at all. Can I only use streaming audio files another way? I cannot find an option to link ot an external audio file as you can do with video so how do i successfully get an audio file to stream?
In the video tutorials and they use the character option in the properties of textInputs or textboxes or whatever, but I dont have a character option in my properties. All i see is Color Effect, Display, and Component Parameters. So i tried going to text and then to embed fonts but I still get an error saying i need to embed my fonts. Where can I set the fonts for text boxes to use? Is there something wrong with my Flash Professional or what?

View 1 RepliesI am trying to create a site where the menu section will expand with sub-sections when certain buttons are clicked. I have created a main page with navigation, and a movie clip which holds the content for each page. The navigation from buttons on the main page works fine and leads to correct sections [labelled frames] within the MC. I have placed an additional button on the movie clip, it is revealed when one of the main buttons is clicked. However when this button on the MC is clicked, nothing happens.
I want to be able to move some buttons down and slot additional ones in between the existing buttons so that sub-sections are only revealed when looking at the relevant main section. I have tried to do this using the movie clip, however buttons below are not blocked and those above do not work.Here is the code I have used for the buttons - I have tried putting the sub-button code on both the scene and the MC - neither has worked.

View 1 RepliesSo I published my Flash Movie using the HTML settings of Match Movie Size, rather than Fit To Screen (fit to percent, I believe it is) under the publish settings options. This way it works great, but there is no scrollbar on the browser. So my stage size is pretty big, lets pretend its 1200x1200 lol. So, now I want every monitor in the world to be able to see the entire page. I do not want it to fit to their screen, but I want them to be able to scroll down using their browsers scrollbar rather than a scrollbar within the SWF itself.
So imagine you are on a 15 inch monitor, and you are browsing my 1200x1200 HTML page, calling the SWF. You need to be able to scroll down to see the bottom, and scroll right to see the right side. Why is the browser scrollbar not appearing? Is there anything I must do?
Is it possible to have a context menu on a multiple frame movie with all the options except next, prev and play..?I want to have zoom in/out but not next/prev..
