Professional :: Seamless Transitions Between Externally Loaded Movie Clips?

Apr 1, 2010

I'm building a flash player that loads various movie clips in succession  depending on user input. The player should continue to play seamlessly  when one clip ends and another starts playing, however there is always a  slight noticeable delay between the COMPLETE event for one clip and the  actual playing of the next clip. I am using the FLVPlayback component to  load the video clips, with successive clips loaded in different players in the component.

I've tried playing the next video a short duration before the current video finishes by adding a cue point just before the end of the currently running clip (about 200 - 300 ms before the end). This improves matters somewhat, but it is not a reliable method as the timings are different for different browsers and computer specs. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with smooth  transitions between external video clips and could suggest possible  optimizations I could use to improve the transitions.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Seamless Transitions Between Scenes ?

Mar 9, 2003

I am creating my first Flash Web site, learning ActionScripting as I go. I think my most recent problem requires some simple scripting, but I haven't found a solution on the Board, so I decided to post this message.

Basically, I am trying to make the transitions between each section of my site seamless, and in absence of any HTML-like jumps in which the page just cuts to another. For example, when you click on a button from the main navigation area of my portfolio site, you are taken to another section (separate scene),and the content area changes.I want the previous scene to fade out, after the button is clicked, before the new scene loads. Another words, I need to figure out how to tell the timeline to do this for each button:

When I click the Graphics navigation button,FIRST play frames 300-310 of the current scene (fading out animation)THEN take me to the frame label graphics.Heres the code attached to my Graphics button currently (it nested inside a movie clip, hence the _.root part). How would I change this to get it to play frames 300-310 of the current scene before it takes me to the graphics page?

on (release) {
_root.gotoAndPlay("graphics");
}

ActionScript 3.0 :: Seamless Transitions With Multiple Flv's

Jan 31, 2012

I need to have a series of flv files play with seamless transitions between files. I am using the code provided by the tutorial on the gotoandlearn website (XML Video Playlist) as a basis for my project, but I am eliminating the playback controls and playlist access. I just want to play through the videos on the list, but NOT have any buffering lag-time when moving to the next video.If I just loop through the videos in the XML file, each time a new flv is loaded, it will buffer for a few seconds before beginning to play. I have considered using two NetStream objects so that the second can begin to buffer while the first is playing, but I have not found how to load the NetStream object without actually playing it. ns.seek(0) perhaps?

Professional :: Passing Variables To And From Loaded Movie Clips

May 7, 2010

I have a movie clip where I store a value in a variable called "yourname" and then load a different .swf file in level 1. I display the value of "yourname" in a dynamic text box, that works fine. I then move on to a frame where the user has an input text box and can re-enter a value for the "yourname" variable, and then clicks a button symbol to reassign the value. Bear in mind, "yourname" was not originally stored on this level and this movie clip, it is stored on level 0 on the first (main) movie clip.  Here is my code in the button:

on (release) {
_level0.yourname = String (inpt_newName.text);
}

inpt_newName is the input text box. My intent here is to have a "main" timeline where variables are stored, and then load and unload various .swf movie clips as needed, storing and variables (i.e. decisions) that the user makes.

ActionScript 2.0 :: "Transitions Between External SWFs" - Using Movie Clips Instead Of Buttons?

Mar 5, 2009

I have just completed the "Transitions Between External SWFs" tutorial and I'm now I'm at the stage of altering a few things in there to suit my needs. But I've run into a problem...For my buttons, intead of "Button" symbols, I want to use "Movie Clip" symbols - reason being is that I've got some specially animated Movie Clip buttons that I wish to use.To get this... err "working"... with my Movie Clip buttons I have needed to use "_root." when referencing to the container Movie Clip. Now that works to an extent, but for some reason each button plays only "red.swf" even when there is no mention of it in the ActionScript and is instructed to play "blue" for example ("red.swf" happens to be the first appearing movie).Normal method with Button - works fine!

Code:
on (release) {
if (_root.currMovie == undefined) {
_root.currMovie = "red";
container.loadMovie("

ActionScript 2.0 :: Get Transitions Sequences Between Externally Loading Swf's

Aug 27, 2009

I was just working on this tutorial: [URL]

It seems to work fine when I uploaded it to my testing site. It loads the correct swf and I can click on my menu link (the only other functional button with the action scripting) to go to another swf and it transitions correctly. Here is the problem:

After clicking on the menu link and trying to click back on the home link (containing the same swf as what initially loads) to redisplay the first swf, nothing happens. Then the menu button is unfunctional after that as well.

I've been pulling my hair out trying to get transitions sequences between externally loading swf's in my flash site.

Professional :: Poor JPEG Quality When Loaded Externally In Flash Via .xml

Jul 26, 2011

I have a movie that loads images from an external source based on paths contained within an .xml. As far as I can see, there is no restriction to the size of the loaded image, which are are JPEGs, hence flash will not have these images resized. The images look fine when loaded in Photoshop or viewed separately, but the quality is just awful when loaded within the movie.

I've tried the usual hints like increasing JPEG quality in Publish Settings, but understand that since these images are not imporated into Flash CS5 before compiling, but are instead loaded when the .swf is run, these settings would not have any effect.

Get An Externally Loaded Movie Clip To Inherit The Playhead Position Of The Main Timeline?

Oct 17, 2009

I have been approached to design a configurator for a new television product. The Application will let users specify the colours of certain parts of the product and also attach addons, which then updates a cost total.

In the main interface i have a looping animation of the product slowly rotating around 360 degrees that i rendered in 3ds max. When a user clicks a button on the interface i need to load an external movieclip on top of the main animation so it looks as though a certain part has changed colour, this i have acheived. The problem is that when i load the external clip over the original, the loaded clip starts playing from frame 1 and i need it to inherit the playhead position of the main animation so the two layered pieces look as though they are rotating as one. I'm sure this must be possible, unless i need to approach the problem in a different way?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Get An Externally Loaded Mc (a Listener) To Execute A Tween When Another Movie Clip (a Broadcaster) Is Pressed?

Nov 28, 2007

I need an externally loaded mc (a listener) to execute a tween when another movie clip (a broadcaster) is pressed. So, when you press on mc1, mc2 executes a function. Sounds so simple. And I feel I almost cracked it. Now, I know the theory behind broadcasters and listeners, but my code simply doesn't work. I must be dumb since I couldn't figure it out from the senocular's tut on broadcasters and listeners.

To try to illustrate the problem more: listeners are a couple of arrows, left and right. They are movie clip buttons that work on the rewind principle. There's an externally loaded mc at the stage that executes its intro tween (nothing special), and when it stops I want it to start listening to the arrows. So, when on(release) on the arrow occurs, externally loaded mc executes it's outro tween, and at the end calls for the next externally loaded mc on the stage.

Now, to add another question; I have 6 externally loaded clips, called by the arrows. When the first and the last one are on the stage, I'd like to disable the previous, and the next buttons, respectively. I thought I'll just do arrow.enable = false in the first and the last clip.

Professional :: Seamless Animation Using A SWF?

Mar 24, 2010

I'm having problem with playing a *.swf file in my animation.  The *.swf file actually contains a video clip of people passing a card to one another. On the main timeline there are 3 nested movieclips, the movieclip on the second frame contains the *.swf file, and using Im using this code to load the SWF file:

var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); addChild(myLoader); var url:URLRequest = new URLRequest("iwill_cards_video.swf"); myLoader.load(url); MovieClip(root).nextFrame()

The first movieclip plays fine, but then the next two movieclips play at the same time over one another.  I would like for the first movieclip to play, then the second movieclip containing the SWF file, followed by the final movieclip.  I have a "stop" on each of the 3 frames on the main timeline but it doesnt seem to work?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Swapping Movie Clips From A Loaded Swf

Aug 7, 2009

I wrote some actionscript that would load in different values from an xml file in order to play certain movie clips at certain times from a specified swf file. It actually works for the most part. I think the problem happens when I select a movie clip that was already previously selected. It actually won't load it at that point. I will post actionscript in the morning, but I feel like this should be a rather common issue, and I just don't know some general piece of info. I use an actionlistener to load the swf. I create an associative array that works as follows [action] => movieclip Then on an action it will make a movie clip object = loader.content.getChildByName(theActions[action]);

ActionScript 1/2 :: Scrolling And Movie Clips Loaded From The Library?

Aug 12, 2010

Ok, I'm using actionscript 2.0, and I am trying to make a scrolling image gallery. I have a movie clip with three layers. the first contains a movie clip used as a scroll bar. The second is a mask used to hide the overflow content, and the third contains movie clip thumbnails. when I click one of the thumbnails, it loads a symbol containing a larger version of the picture over top of the thumbnails on the same layer. My problem is, the large image is added at the very top of the movie clip, even when it is scrolled out of sight. I want it to appear in sight, so the user doesn't have to scroll all the way back up to the top to see it. This is annoying and confusing. Is there a way to do this?

Here is the code I used to create the scroll effect (there is actually a whole lot more to the code but it is very long, so I am not adding it now. I will if it is needed though)(Oh, and there is no text involved in this. I just got this code off a tutorial and I haven't changed the variable names yet)

var scrollUpper:Number = 58; var scrollLower:Number = 309;
var textLower:Number = 60; var textUpper:Number = -179;
var scrollRange:Number = scrollLower - scrollUpper; var textRange:Number = textLower

ActionScript 2.0 :: Showing That External Movie Clips Are Loaded

Dec 12, 2004

On some sites i have seen usually portfolio or gallery type sites there are thumbnails, text or some shape that you click on to view a particular image. What I'm getting at is some of the sties show visually that the clip has been loaded with change of alpha (images that are not loaded greyed out and ones that have already been loaded are in colour etc..). An example of what i'm talking about is on [URL] When you click on the menu (selection uno), it loads a particular clip, and throughout the session on the site, u can tell which ones have been loaded and have not. I know there are probably many down and dirty ways of achieving this, but i know there is usually 1 or 2 'proper' methods for doing a particular thing.
