Does Adobe had releases the source code for the components that comes with Flash CS4 (fl.controls.*). If not, is there any way to use the Flash component library with another IDE like FlashDevelop for code and compile the flash applications.

I am putting together a presentation on flex for adobe user group that specialize in coldfusion. In my example I would like to display the text of the cfc being called from the webservice tag in my flex application. Is there a simple way to load the actual text for the cfc instead of the html that coldfusion is passing back to my URLloader variable?

I am working in two different applications, one to be compiled for desktop use (AIR) and one to be compiled for the web. They are part of the same project and use the same visual components, but they are completely different apps. When a visual component is changed in one application then it should also change in the other one. Is this a good situation to use a shared library fla? I am new to the concept of shared libraries and I am considering the options.
On one had I would not have to update 2 applications everytime I change something, on the other, I would always have to recompile the library folder when I do the smallest changes to a component.

View 1 RepliesI'm using the same FLVPlayback component to play many page transition videos throughout a large flash site I'm building. On each transition, I'm setting the component's source using myFLVPlayback.source and listening for the fl.video.VideoEvent.READY event before proceeding with each page transition. This works fine as long as the transition between every pair of pages uses a different video.
Unfortunately, I'm running into a problem when the same page-to-page transition video needs to get invoked for two consecutive transitions. When playing the same video twice in a row, setting the source property of the component to the value it already has doesn't seem to do anything, meaning that my listeners for fl.video.VideoEvent.READY never fire. I could do something hackish like setting the source to a tiny, never-used-elsewhere FLV before setting it to the FLV that I'm actually using for the transition as a means of "resetting" the component, but I'd like to know what best practices are in a situation like this (insofar as best practices with something like the FLVPlaybackComponent can be discussed with a straight face).
I've perused the livedocs for the component but came up empty-handed, and manually using NetStream, NetConnection, and Video objects at this late stage isn't really an option.
I picked up the book ActionScript 3.0 Game Programming University.so far it looks good. But the compiler uses the definition from the source-path so creating new instance of that class won't create new instance of the library symbol. How do I tell the compiler to prefer the definition linked to the symbol (the one dfrom SWC)?
I have my design assets in an FLA file and they are linked to classes (e.g. [URL]. Then I export those assets to a SWC library and pass it to the compiler. Now when I create an instance of the class (new MyAsset();) it will be a new instance of the library object.
But there are other classes too in the source folder (e.g. "com.myproject.model.*" so I need to pass the source folder to the compiler too. And that is the problem, now the compiler will use the MyAsset.as definition from the source path, not from the SWC where it is assigned to the library object so if I create new instance of MyAsset now it won't duplicate the library object.

View 0 RepliesI think i must be missing something very basic about packages and classes. I am often downloading source code from people who offer there source code on the internet. I think this is a good way to look at what people are doing and try to understand the code. Ideally I want to see the program in a .fla, see it in action when I "ctrl enter" and play with the code to change some things and learn a bit.
The thing is it always seems to be just .as files with public and private package/class code and never an actual .fla with the actual program. This is probably a really stupid question but is there a reason for this?

This standalone movie happens to use the ScrollPane component (fl.containers.ScrollPane), and it runs correctly when launched on it's own.When I attempt to have a Parent movie load the standalone SWF, i receive a run-time error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

I understand that this error can be avoided by adding the ScrollPane component to the Parent Movie library. My question is why is this necessary? If the component is only used in the standalone SWF being loaded by the Loader class, why does the Parent movie require the component to be in the library as well?
