So why does the Adobe Alchemy Tool create so much faster running flash byte code than the flex compiler?
Also, when will the flex compiler be able to make similar performance gains? Will it require programmer specific use of special Array's or something of that nature to get the same performance?

View 2 RepliesI'm thinking of developing an application with Adobe Flash CS4 but I'm having some serious quality issues when importing material from Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Fireworks CS4.When I import the material as a bitmap, the quality is better (then importing as movieclip) but not good enough.I was just wondering, how do the pro's do it? All the big companies, organizations ect ect.

View 2 RepliesEver since I got the hang of AS3 and discovered FlashDevelop, I pretty much abandoned fla.Back in the days, before switching to it, lack of alpha channel support by the .jpg format was a non issue, since Flash IDE allowed to embed png images in the library and apply lossy jpeg compression to them while retaining their transparency data.Programmatically, however, I'm only able at the moment to embed either flat jpegs, or lossless, consequently unacceptably large, transparent pings. (Indexed gif is not practical in the context/nature of the pictures to be embedded.*)
Is there a way to "JPEG-ize" pings at compile time using only code? Perhaps there are some parameters to follow [Embed(source = 'transparent.png')... that are not known to me? Obviously, I'm aware of such acrobatics as loading/embedding a external swf published from Flash IDE containing the bitmaps, or storing the alpha channels separately, ets but I wonder if this can be done elegantly to satisfy code purism.While GIF is great for storing pixel art, icons and whatnot, for smooth/soft images using way over 256 colors, its quality/compression ratio is rather unfavorable. Additionally, it only supports 2-bit transparency i.e. aliased edges.

According to my encoder, it should be located at: "rtmp://localhost/live" and is called livestream.In the Flash software I try and set the source of FLVPlayback component to rtmp://localhost/live/livestream", and I get this error: "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound : Adobe Flash tried to play a live or recorded stream that does not exist. I have made a movie clip which I export to ActionScript 3.
In this movie clip I have drawn a text field (area? well TEXT) using the plain "Text Tool".
After selecting the text, and after I have entered "0" to be displayed, I edit its properties. It's Instance Name, defined at the very top of the list I have written "score". The text engine is TLF Text and the text type "Read only".
When I have made a instance of the movie clip using AS3 I can't get the value of the text instance named "score" - when calling something like trace(getChildByName("score")) in the constructor I just get null.
I want to be able to get the value of the text "score", and I would also like to change its value.
Just how do I get the value from ActionScript? I don't want to have to create the text progamatically and position it, and I doubt that I have to.
