We would like to deploy Flash Player in our corporate environment.Users are NOT administrators of their local machines, so just installing it on the image and leaving it is not an option.Telling users not to click the large Adobe Flash Player has an update splash screen is also not an option.

Since we will be transmitting to large amounts of users through this exceptional piece of software, we will be needing to run more than one server at once. Before going ahead and doing anything against the policies we have decided to post here on the support forums and inquire about being able to run multiple copies of Flash Media Server 4 Enterprise edition with one Serial KEY ( 10 x GigE dedicated servers ). If this is not possible, how can me and my chappies load balance all the traffic through one Flash Media Server 4 Enterprise edition.

I'm currently looking into a possible project that would have global users requiring enterprise level access and performance, and wondering if it would be prudent to call upon some of my contractors flex experience with this project.

At one point, it did function properly, but now it will not stream video at all, and I keep getting a constant stream of errors. No changes were made to the FMS configuration to make it stop working. Attempting to load it in console mode results in the following:

I'd just like to know whether I'm wasting my time bothering to contact some annoying sales people, if it is out of our price range. This is most likely for deployment of a Flex/Java app in a clustered environment. Community edition is not going to work here.

From the menubar, I selected "Project->Export Build Release" and moved the files from /bin-release onto my local server (WAMP).
I have a PHP file that connects to a db and delivers some data via XML
Everything works right on my computer. Then I tried to move the app to a mac.
I installed MAMP with the default settings (localhost:8888)
I can connect to the PHP file and get the XML by hitting the appropriate URL on @ http://localhost:8888/...
Likewise, I can connect to the html template and the swf executes, but it doesn't seem to be getting the data back, and I don't get any debug info popping up.
Are there security settings enabled by default in Mac OS that would not allow a flex app to request data from a remote resource (i.e. http://localhost:8888/ in this case)?

View 1 RepliesI'm building a page that uses an array to deploy a series of timers that do a variety of things. The problem is at any point the user needs to be able to navigate away from the page and when they do they get a timer tick error. To stop this, I have been trying to write a function that stops all the timers which I can do when I write all the timers out the long way, but I'm failing when trying to stop the timers created with the array. I'm getting the following error:
ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property 3 not found on flash.utils.Timer and there is no default value.

I assume that this relates to my attempt to use the variable to identify each of the various timers and stop them (apparently flash is not actually creating an instance name for each of the timers like it would for a movieclip).

View 1 RepliesI have a SWF file I created using Adobe Flex and I cannot seem to properly embed it inside an HTML page. If I take another SWF file and use it instead, it works all the time. My SWF file is pretty big (1 MB) while the other one is tiny (25 KB). However, I can wait 5-10 minutes and the server connection is super fast and it still will never load. Is there something I need to do to the SWF to have it start up properly? My SWF almost never runs.

What files other than the swf do I need to deploy to ensure everything works for my users? I see in the bin-debug folder of the project it spits out a bunch of swfs (framework, rpx, playerProductInstall, spark, etc) and the swfobject.js. Do I need all these files deployed to the same location as my swf?

View 2 RepliesI have some code to scale an image's width according to its height after the image is being loaded. It works fine on my development PC if I point to the wrapper html using local file system path. However, after I deploy the web application to JBoss AS 5.1, it stopped working - it always sets the image width to 0, causing it to disappear.

I am working on a Flex 4.5 app tageting Android. In different views the app needs to load and display images which I have deployed as part of the app. Where do I put these images? And how do I load them? I am familiar with @Embed for images, but this doesn't seem to be the correct approach in this case. I also know how to load from the file system, but I really don't know how to include my images as part of the app for distribution.

I'm just trying to understand how once HTML5 enters the picture, the current concerns about browser incompatibility and other issues go away? Wouldn't HTML5 simply add another set of browsers to the large list of current browsers that the application must target?
That is, assuming the enterprise web app requires one of these new HTML5 features (e.g. playing audio and/or video, integrating SVG or vector graphics, etc.). If such a feature isn't critical then graceful degradation may be acceptable and then my question is moot.
But for those apps that require one of these new HTML5 features, are you planning to support older browsers, or expecting it's acceptable to restrict to HTML5 browsers because the enterprise in question has made one of them their new corporate standard (or other scenario, etc.)?
What is the price of Flash Media Enterprise Server? The application level multicast is only available with this edition.

View 6 RepliesThis maybe a bit of a 'wide' question, but am putting together a brief overview of a new system I'm proposing at work. It will be a POS style system, that does quotes and invoices + crm for our work enviroment across 100 + locations.
It will communicate with server via the Internet. Flex / Air feature set (offline SQL is Internet goes down, Rich communications, rich client environment etc), the fact that we run Macs + PC makes it looks like a great choice. I know HTML 5 has offline SQL and stuff, but flex feature set is way more comprehensive / usable etc..Is anyone doing any big corporate Flex / Air projects that need to last a long time? Or are you pushing HTML and its new technologies to provide a more safe investment.
Right now I do not have "server". Example: I do not have anything like windows sever 2000, 2003 etc. but I have and running IIS server on the same Windows XP Pro. On this very same machine I installed FMS server with the Apache that came with the FMS. I have read and followed the instructions time and time again in deferent ways to deploy my video on the server but no idea I used is working so my clients could view my videos. Looking forward to have site like "hulu" / "You Tube".
