Professional :: Swf Files Are Suffering From Browser Incompatibilities?
Apr 5, 2010
How is it that my swf files are suffering from browser incompatibilities? How do I rectify the situation? I'm frankly surprised to encounter this issue, since I would have thought a swf file would be generated such that it wouldn't have these problems. Here are two examples;
http:[url]...
This works fine in Safari, but not in my Mac version of FF (latest of both). In the latter the swf files don't ever display. It works well in (I believe) IE 7 for Windoze but not in IE 8 for Windoze. In the latter it never goes to the index page from the preloader, and when I surf there directly, it doesn't display the swf that "covers" (then disappears from) the main template page, which also has a swf, and in the latter swf one of the graphics never loads.http:[url]...
This swf plays differently on all sorts of different browsers. On some, such as my Safari, it plays exactly as desired. In my FF, the hands momentarily disappear. In certain Windoze/IE configurations, it gets all screwed up and looks awful. What is going on inside the swf files that it displays so differently, and how do I counteract these problems?

The following swf file does not render properly in many versions of IE on various Windoze platforms, but does on others and in my Mac OS Snow Leopard on Safari and almost correctly (small error) in FF:

The following swf file does not pull up the assets at least in my Mac OS Snow Leopard on FF but does do so in Safari. Also same problem on IE 8 on either Vista or XP (think Vista):

That same swf file, embedded in a really stripped down plain Jane html doc as follows, does not render anything in Mac OS Snow Leopard with FF but has no problem in Safari:

I installed Flash CS4 Professional trial version for school use. It wouldn't install successfully. I deleted the font files the troubleshooting guide said to, tried again, but gave up. (I'm afraid to run regedit and mess up everything else I have loaded.) (I previously had the Fireworks CS4 trial version loaded, then uninstalled it.) My problem is this- I have it running, but it saves files and then they can't be opened, even if I use the save function often- it's worse when I create the file, test the movie and then save.If I try to open it again, it says "cannot open file." Once it opened a copy I had saved, and it appeared blank, even though it was 544 kb file size. I only need it for a few more days, one more assignment and I'm afraid my previous files are corrupt. I have Windows Vista Home Edition.

I am constructing a Flash animation and I was hoping to build it by scenes. These scenes would be individual SWF movies that I could import into my final Flash file in consequential order and when finished I would have a completed Flash Movie. There would be no interaction beyond Play/and replay. Where can I get information on how to construct this and is this a recomended way to do it?

I uploaded a swf file with dreamweaver as a stand alone window and it works fine. How do I get the swf file to scale larger or smaller as the user adjusts their browser window larger and smaller? I would like to get the swf file to scale along with the browser window. I posted this in dreamweaver but was told this is an action script issue.

I am using flash 8 or flash mx, and I want to open a web site and some pdf files. I have my projector set to fullscreen but when I open a web site or a pdf file these files open behind my projector so my final user doesn't realize that the pdf files or the web site is displayed. How can I force the web site or the pdf file to open on top of my projector or is there a way to minimize my projector when I click these buttons so the user realizes that these files opened.

If I am on a flash heavy website, and I clear my browser cache, the site continues to function. Chances are the entire swf is not loaded into flash's active memory at the time I clear the browser cache (especially for sites that use large rsl libraries such as papervision3d). I can verify this with flash-builder's profiling tools. So, where are the swf libraries kept on disk (or in memory somewhere else?) which allow the site to continue to function?

How do I download multiple files at once from a browser without combining them into single file? I found all kinds of multiple file uploaders, but downloaders are missing. There is only JUpload, but it's old and became buggy recently. I believe both Java and Flash can do this: select a folder at client's HD and download everything there.

I'm getting close to finishing the application I'm working on, and the person I'm working for is going to be distributing it via DVD. to package my flash file in some format so that when the user opens the file, it will open the swf in an internet browser?
The reason I need to do this is because I have some xml data in it that is keeping it from being fully functional unless opened in an internet browser. I'm not entirely sure why this occurs, because the file works fine in Flash Player on my computer, but not when moved to anyone elses. So, the workaround is to open it in an internet browser.
Anyway, I figure that in order to have the file open in an internet browser, it'd have to be packaged as an exe or some other similar file type, but we want it to be cross-platform.
Maybe there's an easier way, but I need to find out how to package my swf file so that it automatically opens in a browser.

I have no experience with Adobe Flash because others have done this out of house in the past. (time has come for me to learn - quickly)
I need to simply create "swf" files from a number of videos I have finished in Premiere Pro 5.5.
These videos are 800 x 600 videos that display at "point-of-sale". The spec is swf and not flv.
(I do not need to do anything else in Flash apart from create the video file with the swf extension.)

I have an external SWF which i load into my main SWF with URLloader.... that external SWF includes several FLV-movies. I´m not sure how they have been imported to that SWF, probably with FLV component.... but I´m not sure and I don´t have any idea of possible instance names either.....
My question is that can I still create a preloader that would load all used FLV-files into a cache, my goal is that user could start watching videos directly after pushing play button, without need to wait any buffering...
I know all the names and URLs of those FLV-files if that helps..I´m looking for actionscript 3 solution for my main SWF but if someone knows the way to do it with html-wrapper, that would do as well (I´m using SWFobject for html-wrapper)

There is a web game that I play and I used fiddler to see what temporary files it downloaded. While I was playing I deleted all those temporary files including the sounds and flash files. But it didn't affect the game at all. Why is that? I checked in fiddler and it doesn't look like the files were redownloaded.

I'm working on a project that originally required me to use <area> elements and 40 copies of a single GIF image to have a hoverable and clickable <img> tag. I suggested SVG, and the client agreed to use SVG instead, as it was easier to work with for both of us.
Anyways, my question is, what cross-browser JavaScript SVG library will allow me to display and interact with pre-made SVG images.
I know of these libraries:
Raphaël: I'm currently using this along with a SVG loading plugin. But that plugin does not support Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator SVGs (i.e. most SVGs). cang: This library looks promising, but it requires <canvas> support, which IE doesn't have natively. svgweb: Another more-promising library. It requires Flash, but most IE users have Flash. jQuery SVG: It seems to be able to load SVG images, but development seems to have died. And it requires me to use a modified version of jQuery 1.3.
My client would like to provide somewhat-arbitrary images to my script and have chunks of them be "selectable" (see my demo here).

This question is more about updating swf and xml files on the browser. I have a gallery site that has muliple swf files loaded on the master swf on button click. These swf files loads an xml file. My problem is that whenever I update the xml or swf file, the browser still has the flash cache stored so I have to manually refresh the file to see the changes. As in, I can't just refresh the index.html. I have to refresh the
/xml/filename.xml or /flash/filename.swf
Which works but then when other people view the site again, they won't know that they have to refresh the files because they don't know the file name or path. Know what I mean? I researched the net and found solutions like using index.php instead of html or using a random variable string like index.php?mod="34342234" but that only seems to update the master swf.

Is there way to get the browser to always load any swf files before everything else on a page (exept the external css and swfobject.js). Using Firebug's Net statistics I can see the swf files generally load last.
We have all our external js files inserted at the bottom of the page to help loading times.

So I'm building a web application, and in part of the application the user should choose an XviD (.avi) video file from his machine, to be played in the browser (without uploading it). I decided to use Flash for this.
Now I have two questions about this:
Which Flash video player is free to use and capable of doing this? How should I let the user choose a video file, and how can I link the Flash video player to the file?

I have a swf that uses actionscript 3.0 to drag and drop images, activate buttons that run movie clips and manage the display list. It runs flawlessly when I execute it directly (i.e. double-click the swf), but I want to publish it on the web -- so I used File -> Publish to create the necessary html file, but when I run it in a browser (I've only tried IE) the initial screen looks perfect, but none of the buttons and drag and drop features work. Also, when I run the swf using File -> Publish Preview, it fails exactly the same way if I choose HTML, but works perfectly if I choose Flash.I created a pared-down version of the fla (see the code below) to try to isolate the problem, and the behavior is exacly the same.I'm attaching the swf and html files for the pared-down version.
- actionscript 3.0 code -----import flash.display.StageDisplayState;import flash.display.Scene;import [code].....
