I don't know if it exists some code generation method for Flex based on XML or Database Structure. For example, we want to manipulate a table in the DB, the most common task is (View/Insert/Update/Delete). And when we have more than 100 fields on the interface, it's rather boring to type them manually in Flex. Is there some ways to generate the Flex Code and the ActionScript functions for managing that.

I want to make a code verification form. Those forms that generate an image which you have to read and type down the code in it. I want to have AS generate a random set of letters and numbers in an unselectable textField. That will be the generated bitmap (not a bitmap actually, but... ). I also want that randomly generated set of letters and numbers to be written down in a variable so that I can compare the variable with the input field of the user to test if it is ok. How to randomly generate that?

View 1 Repliesi instantiate a sprite-class "panel" from my main class. then i call a function "show chooser" inside "panel" which instatiates a sprite class "chooser" with some buttons. now when one of the buttons is pressed i need to call a function inside "panel" which removes the "chooser" sprite/class and which calls a function "onChosen" in the main class.
what is the correct/best way to reference these functions so that they can be called from within the panel and/or chooser classes. i am still too much in the old thinking that a function belongs to a movieclip and can functions with _parent. i need to learn the proper way now.
I want to create a Flex 3 application running in Adobe Air that accesses an SQLite database and I need to keep this database in sync with an SQL server 2005 database running a website.Is this something that Flex supports or is it going to be a custom script? Also, has anybody done anything like this?
Edit: The synchronisation can be done on a daily basis rather than real time. The data will be read only from a front end perspective with a CMS to do updates on the website.

I am planning on using Flash Builder 4/Flex to write an AIR application which is primarily based around recording, storing and analyzing data.I'll be creating charts etc that need to update in almost real time.It's essential to me that the application be able to function without an internet connection so I need a local database of some variety,but I would also eventually like to build in online synchronization of the data where either database can be update each other based on newer information. Moreover, some type of encryption would definitely be welcome, and speed is a large concern
Synchronization: Primarily updates/additions/deletions will be done on the offline database, but ideally I want to have a web interface that will allow the same updates/additions/deletions and will be synced (beyond that I'm not sure exactly how to do it as I can model that based on what is most achievable).I'm wondering if there's any prebuilt engine that could handle the synchronization of 2 databases. I may end up having the web interface only be for additions, which would be significantly easier to sync.. and I may start that way, but i want to build with technologies that will best allow me to implement full online crud at some point.
Here is the issue: a client wants his entire equipment inventory accessible by persons navigating to his jquery mobile site. The inventory that exists on the desktop site was, as I understood, built with Flex. Is it possible to access this database for the jquery mobile site? I believe it is. I seem to run into compile issues in Flash Builder when I import 3rd-party libraries at the wrong level in the directory structure. For example, sometimes I'll import a library one level too deep into its directory tree, and the package explorer ends up excluding the prefix root-level package, usually "com." or "net.". Even though the content of the source itself doesn't change, this will cause compile errors.
Thus: Is it a 1) convention or 2) language requirement that a class's package structure (e.g., "foo.bar.Class") must match its path location (e.g., foo/bar/Class.as)?
If it's a language requirement, why is it a requirement? Wouldn't that overdetermine the package structure, since it is already specified in the source code and quite happily consuming the first three to eight columns of each line? If it's not a language requirement, are my compile errors just a result of Flash Builder enforcing the convention?

I've got a problem how to organise files and packages in AS3/Flex project. A short intro to the problem:
The files structure in the project is (and should stay) like this:
libs/Class1/src/<files>
libs/Class2/src/<files>
libs/Class3/src/<files>
The amxmlc compiler source-path variable points to:
libs/
I need it because I have to subclass Class1 in Class3. That pushes me to put all the classes into packages that look as weird as this:
package ClassX.src { /* ... */ }
So in practice it looks like that:
package Class3.src
{
import Class1.src.Class1; // I prefer direct imports
public class Class3 extends Class1 { /* ... */ }
}
Is there a way to keep the files/folders structure and get rid of src in the package name. Changing the files structure or direct pointing compiler into base-class directory in not an option.
If I wanted to code a desktop-based game, I could pull some XNA code and UDP sockets and make a decent multiplayer game. I would have an extremely clear of how to code the game I wanted.But if I wanted to code a browser-based online multiplayer game, how would I do it?ou can't use XNA....I've been looking at some questions and I'm seeing PHP and ASP.NET and Silverlight and Flash and Java as the alternative languages...I really don't understand how it works. I mean, for a desktop-based game, you're opening a UDP socket and accepting clients and transferring data, updating player states, drawing the results using XNA. But in a browser, how do you open a socket and stuff? How does that concept work, communicating to people in realtime through a web-browser.

I have some kind of UIComponent grouping which may look something like this with the classes "Group" and "Element". Groups can have children and children may be elements or groups again, basically similar to a file system or the str+g group function in several graphics programs. The simplest form of a group is a group with only children which are also the most low level groups in the tree.
The display hierarchy is already existant, i try to persist it to xml.

I want to rebuild this structure in an xml-document for persistence. I know how to build an xml document in Flex but not how to (recursively) traverse this n-tree correctly. For getting only the child nodes one could make use of the following algorithm (pseudo code). But somehow I don't understand how to create the xml from this.

I am trying to understand why I am not able to launch a SWF from the URL after launching mvm jetty:run on my project.The project has built successfully and produced a Falcon-WAR-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.war in the maven target directory.
