I'm familiar with C/C++/Scheme/Java/OpenGL/TCP/IP.I need to learn how to build a tile based / platform flash engine.What tools should I be using? What books should I buy?I strongly prefer tools that let me do things programatically rather than through a graphical UI.

I have a "person" so to speak, in flash, with a few different parts; head, pants, shirt and hat. There can be, for example, 10 different colors of shirts for the person. I've done a lot of the AS3 code behind it, but I'm awful in flash, and I've had a ton of trouble with this.
What I'm really trying got figure out (in vain) is how I can have basically a blank skeleton structure (i.e. I'm trying to have "blank" or "placeholder" symbols connected by Inverse Kinematics as bones) consisting of the pants, shirt, & head, and when I find out that shirt #6 needs to be on the person... put it in that placeholder. Does that make sense? That's the big problem. The other thing is that I've had nothing but trouble figuring out how to have, for example, one or two outlines of shirts, and when it sees shirt #6, it fills in that shirt with blue dynamically. But that might be for another question.
How I have it now: In AS3, each of the parts, the shirt, the pants, the head & hat, have their own custom classes behind movieclips, and for example, I've got it set up that the body contains the pants, shirt and head classes, and the head contains the hat class, etc.
In TFS 2010 build, I have a new build and I want to call an ant script that builds Flash. How do I call the ant script? Also How can I compile the Flash directly? I've seen the Power Tools and this question but it doesn't help me as we don't have TFS 2008. I can't find any documentation on how to use the power tools except the 1 sentence on the bottom of download page saying to create your build the old way and import it (which isn't very helpful). I've installed the power tools on the agent computer but I don't see any new options in the Toolbox when I'm designing the build flow.

2. When bending a shape with a couple of bones too much, the shape will become transparent at places it overlaps itself. Is there any way to prevent this? I want to create bodies that bend in all sorts of ways but I don't want to see through the shape at places where it overlaps itself.
3. It will not look very realistic if all body parts just can rotates 360 degrees around the z-axis. They should be able to scale down to create a 3D-illusion.Is it possible to resize the length of a bone and at the same time make the movieclip to also shrink in one axis?
4. Look at the file. Is there any way to prevent the body from being stretched out when he lifts the arms?

For making it more clear, I have saved all the informations in a file about the animation(time, position of fingers etc). How can I animate the fingers(wrist included)? I also need to know how to use a 2D hand with bones in flex.
View 1 RepliesI just started working with ant a few days ago. Right now I have a general buildall.xml which should call each project's build.xml. Because some projects depend on each other, I need to rebuild some other projects which depend on it. This isn't a problem--I'm just setting the depends property of the target. However, ant is always building the dependencies, even when the files haven't changed.Let's say project1 has no dependencies; project2 depends on project1; project3 depends on project1, 2; project4 depends on project1, 2, and 3; and so on.I could hack a solution which looks at project K, and checks if project 1 .. project K have updated files using uptodate. If so, then run the target. This is messy and appears unnecessary.
What is the cleanest way to implement this?EDIT: So I decided to just hack in a bunch of targets, "check_projectK" where it does the uptodate checks on all of its source files, its build file, and the build files of the 1 .. K-1 projects. Due to dependencies, this is always handled correctly. However, this is still a large amount of copy and paste for a large workspace.
Using FDT, when I have a debug configuration with several operations in the launcher chain and the final launcher opens in Flash Player, how can I retrieve the build output from the console once the build is complete and Flash player is running?
It seems that once Flash Player has started the console clears to make way for the application's trace output, but I need to be able to look back over the events and build times for each item in my launch chain while Flash Player is running. Is there a setting I can enable to either log my build output to a file or to preserve it in the console?
Edit: I know I can still read the info when building normally, this question is specifically for building with the debugger.
I'm thinking about learning a flash 3d engine. I need some advice on which one to use. There's quite a few out there. Which is the best? I'm also considering whether there're a good bunch of tutorials on the web, that can make the learning easy.

Introduction: I think Nape is a relatively new engine so some of you may not know it. It's supposedly faster than box2d and I like that there is decent documentation. I am decent at AS3's basic functionality, but every time I try to implement some kind of engine or framework I can't even seem to get it to work. With Nape I feel I got a little further than before but I still got stuck.
My problem: I'm using Adobe CS5, I managed to import the SWC file like described here. Next I tried to copy the source of one of the demo's like this one and get it to work but I keep getting errors. I made a new class file, copied the demo source to it, and tried to add it to the stage. My stage code basically looks like this:

I'm looking at creating a game which involves many bouncing balls on the screen, and the user can sortof select one of those balls and take it out... The balls should be able to bounce of eachother and the walls. I've tried implementing this from scratch, following the tutorials at [URL] - but it's not quite working for me, and if I need the game to become more complicated- probably best to use an existing engine. So is there an existing engine that will work very fast and well for this sort of thing? At a glance- it didn't seem like box2d or flixel would work for this... but what do you say?
