I have saved out an object using JSON.encode to a text file, is it possible to then create a new MovieClip and populate it with all of the properties from the saved file? If so how would it be done, or is there a better way

Here's the architecture: 3 Select Boxes (manufacturer, product series, model)
In the first instance selectbox 1 (manufactur) should list all manufacturers
If you select a manufacturer it should update a second selectbox with all relevated product series and update the last selectbox (model) with all relevated models to the matching manufacturer and product series.
Now there allready exsists a webservice where you can return XML Data or a JSON Object with httpd requests like[code]...

Is there a way for the child of a movieclip object to not inherit the paren'ts properties? Because I scaled down the parent movieclip height and width and I'm loading external images into the parent movieclip and images are also scaled as well so I'm wondering if there is a way for it not to inherit the properties but remain inside the parent?

View 3 Repliesi'm attempting to cast an object's property as an actual property of another object. here's my object variable: var propObj:Object = {prop:"width", width:50}; now i want to assign the property of a sprite using that object's properties. var sp:Sprite = new Sprite(); sp.(propObj.prop as Sprite.property) = propObj.width; now, i'm not even going to try that because i know the compiler will explode all up in my face. but you should be able to see what i'm trying to do. why i'm trying to do it is because i'm reading in an XML file with an undetermined list of usable properties for specific objects. so instead of writing something like a huge switch statement to evaluate whether the XML file has a value for that specific property, i'm trying to assign properties dynamically based on what's available in the XML file. if what i'm trying to do is possible, what's the best way to do it?

Created an editable flex grid which exposes a method called getGridData() to javascript. I am using the JSON.encode() method of the [url]....library to convert the grid object's dataProvider into JSON before returning it.

I have a json object where I don't know some of the values at compile time, but I do know that all objects will be valid at runtime. So in the example below, the first trace will output "50" and I want the second trace to output "100", the value of someObject.someparam, which gets defined at runtime.

The issue I'm running into is that both getFooTypes and getFooCountForType are asynchronous calls to a web service. I understand how to populate fooTypes by setting a Responder and using ResultEvent, but how can I call another service using the result?

So I just started using JASON to make my application data driven. I'm not doing any encoding, only decoding (I encoded once to create an example data layout). My question is, how come I can't cast the data that I read in into the object that it is? I'm basically loading an XML file to assign instances of a movie clip a distinct value, which it uses to modify its height. So, I'm looping through the xml and instantiating my class Object each time (Rect) and then placing that Object into an array:

the trace here always comes up undefined. "listPosition" in this bit is an Rect parameter, defined in the previous bit of code as "i", so I can keep track of the order of the stack.I've found one or two examples of putting objects into an array and getting them back out, but it doesn't seem to work with this, maybe because I'm using a class. I don't know.Could this be an area where I need to use the array access brackets, like around the movie clip the object is loaded into. I've tried everything I can think of -- referencing back to the movieclip, adding extra objectRef type parameters... nothing has worked yet.

For my project I need to copy the graphics of a Movieclip with all of its children without copying anything else into a second Movieclip. I cannot use the Bitmap classes because I need the graphics to be displayed as a vector and I cannot use a method that simply copies the clip by calling the instructor ie:
var copy:MovieClip = clip.constructor. Is there any way to copy only the display portions of a clip into another Movieclip without turning it into a bitmap?
