View 7 RepliesI have created a pie preloader(preloader.zip) which is working fine. Same preloader I am trying to incorporate in a xml based slideshow(slideshow.zip) to show image loading process but some how I got stuck. I am new to flash. Suggestions are welcome.
1. How to solve the problem of preloader2. Is it possible to integrate everything in a movie clip (including AS). I mean no AS on main time line but inside the movie clip. It would be much easier then to to create multiple slideshows by duplicating mc and changing the xml file.
I am trying to make an AIR application, that needs to pass an image (.jpg/.png) to a C++ app, that does number crunching.(this needs to be done very often, like every 2-3 seconds.) I've managed to pass the image by saving it to disk via AIR, then opening this file with the C++ program (and passing the filename as an argument to the C++ program), but this method is really slow, because it involves lots of disk I/O.
Is there a method to send an image directly to a native process?
Edit: There is a good Flash-C++ communication example at [URL] using sockets. The big problem with this method is, that some firewall settings can block the communication (i get a windows firewall warning, when i start the app).
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.I have images loading into loaders, and empty movieclips, on demand..I would like to be able to load images that havn't been cached yet, but still have the images that the user navigates to to take loading precedence if need be. ie...Speed up loading time by haveing images load as a background process.

(animation from another prog in swf format) But the problem is that the new swf file is blocking the snow. How can I script the snow so that it will fall on top of the loaded file.[URL].
View 2 RepliesIt seems that the loading process times out sometimes and it freezes the flash.To prevent that from happening, I thought about adding an onLoadError which loads a default image in the Library so that the slideshow continues what it was doing even if an image can't be loaded. But I can't get it to work... Here's what I was trying:I got in my library 2 items:

I'm looking to speed up compile time. Back in the day I used MTASC and it would just update the code of the swf.
Since AS3 I need to publish the movie from the IDE and it takes forever because of the images and fonts in the library.
Is there anything that works like MTASC these days? Or does anybody have a real smart work flow I should consider?
Maths was never my strong point and I have been attempting to speed the ball up that I have in flash. The ball is dispatched like this;

It almost works, however the results are not consistent. Sometimes the ball gets faster, and sometimes it becomes extremely slow.
I am using SWFLoader to load a little animation into my flex environment but for some reason the animation is sped up a lot. This is the case with all of the animations I tried. Is there a way to slow it down or fix this?
View 1 RepliesI programmed a simple (or so I thought!) website entirely in flash, using a looping movie for the background. I have the entire website programmed in one scene, with actionscript telling the movie-clip-button avigation to "gotoAndPlay" the name of each section. I tested the entire time I was programming, and everything was looking great. However... when I uploaded the file and test it live, my movie clip background has gone haywire! When I navigate now between the sections, the movie clip speeds up. I have done some troubleshooting, but to no avail.

What would be best practice for speeding up an animation? - Increase the frame rate, or is that considered cheating (already set to 25)? The alternative would be to manually adjust the length of the tweens on each layer.
View 2 Repliesi'm working on a drawing tool with the flash drawing methods, but my movie starts to slow down. i'm storing the variables in an xml object and then looping through them onEnterFrame. right now i'm limiting the amount of lines that are drawn to 50. anyone have any tips on speeding up the drawing methods. as i understand it they are the same methods that flash uses to draw all it's lines. shouldn't it be able to render more than 50lines at a time.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to load sound dynamically into a clip and then play it randomly. The AS I came up with works great if the sound is embedded and I use the .attachSound() method instead of loadSound(). Now, when I load it dynamically and use the code below, the sound plays very fast and at a higher pitch.

I am loading images of different size and then images are scaled and border is drawn for each image as shown in below link,[URL]... I want that border of images to be of the same width and height and for that I need to find out the max width and height size image before loading all the images. Is there any way that I can know the width and height of an image before loading it completely?
View 1 RepliesI developing a site where on the homepage, there are about 6 images that rotate, but if you click on a sub link, a different image loads. But the problem is that, the first image has to cycle through before the second image loads. I want the second image to load immediately.

[code]This script is for a loader image gallery in flash, as part of a class assignment. What happens is that in flash, when I open the swf file, the initial image (images/nair_evanescentautumn.png) will load fine. However, clicking on any thumbnail image (including the exact same images/nair_evanescentautumn.png), will result in an error saying the file cannot be found.I cannot figure out why it is doing this... I've tested it over. Clicking each thumbnail does go to the correct position in the two separate functions. All said full-size image links are in the folder images/, and replacing the initial loader image will load the other images in place of the default one. However, clicking on any thumbnail still results in URL not found, even though everything works correctly.[code]Before anyone asks why I'm putting this kind of content into a flash site, I'm not--this is only for a class assignment. View 3 RepliesI tried searching for an answer to this on the forums and it seems you can't duplicate a movieclip that has a dynamically loaded jpg in it, I mean you just get a duplicate empty movieclip?What I want to do is have 3 copies of a pic, each tinted a little differently, and have them converge and reveal the "composite" of this pic. Do I then have to use loadMovie 3 times?Does loading the same 50kb image at the same time mean you're actually loading 150kb?

I made 1 image gallery. and i am facing a big issue. When one image is loading in my Loader object. If i click on next image button. It starts loading another image without canceling the existing image. So mutliple images appear at stage in this case. I want something that stops loading older image and start loading new image.

im working on an image viewer and im loading an image to a loader and then add the loader to the stage.I want the user to be able to drag and drop the image but since it's a loader i dont know how to do it.
I tried

I have an image menu that starts off as black and white and when the mouse hovers over it, it enlarges and changes to colour. It works a treat but I would like the transition from black & white to colour to be faster. Is there anyway of doing this without much(hardly any) flash knowledge.

I want to have a web page where user can activate his/her web-camera and send video to another user. Additionally to that I want to have a possibility to process video on the client side. In more details, I want to have a program which analyze video on the client side. Is it possible to do it with Flash?

View 1 RepliesOK, what's the process for creating a component in as3? Not AS2. If you ask anyone, they seem to refer you to as2 documentation. Also, I am strictly working with flash pro cs3 and have never used flex. I have lots of components from all the time with as2, but now need to convert everything over to as3. Or maybe, that's not possible and you have to still use both in some manner?
