Actionscript 3 :: MovieClip In Array Displays Null, And Aren't Showing Up On Stage.addChild
Apr 26, 2010
why i keep getting Parameter child must be non-null. And my code won't display 5 enemyBlock objects onto the stage but only just one.
returns:
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter child must be non-null.
at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/addChild()
at flash.display::Stage/addChild()
On the main timeline in frame 1 var slideshow:Slideshow = new Slideshow();if (Object(slideshow)){trace("yes");}when the movie runs the trace works.
I have MovieClip which is on the stage from frame 1 onward the MovieClip on stage is a button which displays a dropdown menu when clicked the menu consist of other MovieClips one of the menu item MC's is set to run if (Object(root.slideshow)){trace("yes");}when I click I get this message:1119: Access of possibly undefined property slideshow through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.
How do I make sure that a movie clip that starts on the stage has a higher zindex then when I addChild and add a linked movieClip from the library.
Really my code is pretty simple
background_image = new Sprite(); main_container.addChild (background_image);
But I have a movieClip "message_box" that I dragged onto the main timeline. When i add the background_image which is the full size of the stage it overlays the "message_box"
I know you can set the childs index but how do I set the "message_box" index?
I have a movieclip with 8 frames and i would like to add each of the frames to the stage with addChild and with a different X, how can i do it? I was looking for something like addChild(nameMC[2]); //for frame nr 2 but i can't found any info related to this..
on frame 1 for (j=0; j<20; j++) { duplicateMovieClip("letterCont", "Letter"+j, j);} //this frame is executed only once
on frame 2 for (j=0; j<20; j++) { if (j<MsgLen) { // remove old clip in a loop sequence _root["Letter"+j]
[Code]....
frame 3 is looped until all 20 are shown and then it send back to frame 2
The checking the data given in frame 3 is correct
What my couse it not to show? is there a way to debug the clip it self the? _x _y _width _height on the debugger has correct values for all clips as expected but the clip is not on the stage why?
I created a MovieClip and added it to the stage(addChild). Next, I created a Button (exactly BaseButton) and I added it to the MovieClip.The case is it won't show up. When I add directly my button to the stage (my Main class is document class ) there is no problem. But I want it to show up in my MovieClip and I dont know what I am doing wrong =[.The addChild is working because when I
Code: trace(controls.getChildAt(0),getChildAt(0)); I am getting
I am trying out the following code, so that whenever I make a movieclip null, the array containing it's reference too becomes null. I understand the following code cannot do this, but I want somehow, the array can provide information, if the movieclip has got null.
import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.events.Event; var a_arr:Array = new Array(a_Mc,b_Mc); trace(a_arr); a_Mc= null ; trace(a_arr);
Output is: [object MovieClip],[object MovieClip] But I want something like null, [object MovieClip ]
I have a MovieClip called item with the same linkage set and my first task is to display 10 of these items on the stage nested inside a movieclip called MainItem. I have dragged MainItem to the stage and have the following for loop:
Last night I was working on my flash file and I must have changed some setting that has caused all of my buttons, movie clips and graphics to disappear from my Flash CS4 stage. Instead, it shows each instance's actionscript registration on the screen with a small circle. The instances are still there and show up when exported, but I can't see them while I'm editing the file. The static text and basic grapics are fine. Does anyone have an idea what setting might be causing this? I've tried multiple .fla files and had the same problem with all of them.
I have made a very simple swf in which I have a MovieClip which I have rotated on the stage. When I try to access this rotationX and rotationY properties of this clip using the constructor of the class assigned to this MovieClip they are coming back as 0 even though they shouldn't be. If I put an on rollover event of the MovieClip and trace out these properties here I get the correct values.
The code works fine, but I am getting unexpected results; the array seems to be shared across multiple instances of the same class? I've coded an example to highlight what is happening:
Code: import myClass; var instance:Array = new Array(); instance[0] = new myClass;
[Code].....
keep all objects/arrays separate across multiple instances of the class.
I'm a self learning flash programer. Currently having trouble on a xml photo album for a friend's website. The rest of the site is working like a charm, except for a few glitches here and there. My real problem is that i can't put the thumbs on the stage. I'm using this code to do it.
I have an odd predicament that I'm trying to wrap my head around. I have a textField, that is populated by data from an xml file. It contains simple line html line break tags, and when I use the htmlText option, it doesn't seem to recognize those tags, even though they don't show up when I view it online. Here is my code:
Code: //FLASHVARS CODE var varName:String; var paramObj:Object = LoaderInfo(this.root.loaderInfo).parameters; for (varName in paramObj) {
[Code]......
I can't figure out how to make it render properly. If I choose a dynamic text field already on the stage it works fine, but then the scrollbar doesn't work. I read that a TextField automatically uses a scrollbar when it gets too long. Can anyone suggest a possible work around for this? I feel the answer is staring me in the face and I just can't see it.

I'm building a Facebook client in actionscript, and I'm running into a problem. I have this block of code:
var loader:URLLoader = URLLoader(event.target); var feedResponse:String = (event.target.data); var object:Object = JSON.decode(feedResponse); //getting the data
I have begun on a list: My reference is null!Stage is null! Convert this code from as 2 to as 3 for me! Crossdomain policies are in the way of my cool idea Dynamic property names I need to use stuff on the parent! I don't want my children to scale when I scale the parent! Classes vs instances. Mod note: I do not want this topic pinned, we will use a fresh topic once we have agreed to the content.
I'm trying to use addChild on a movie clip but can't as Flash gives me this error:Error #2007: Parameter child must be non-nullGreat. Okay.The movie clip into which I'm trying to add a child is set to null by default. How do I unnull it? Just what am I not understanding?
We are supposed to build a game, and each of us is to make a level. So we did, but integrating them is giving me issues. Specifically, each of our levels are contained within a symbol. I personally have a ton of symbols that point to eachother already (main.as, menu with various elements, level one, boss level) but for whatever reason whenever I try and addChild my partner's level it gives me "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference."
the way I've been doing it looks like:
var levelTwo:SkiHill = new SkiHill(); parent.addChild (levelTwo); parent.removeChild(this);
like I said, it's worked every time Ive used it between my own things. My partner's is a no-go. If I just slap his level on the stage and go it runs fine, and it will properly add/remove child to transition to one of my levels.
All I can think of is that I've checked all the names. I also noticed my partner didn't use an ADDED_TO_STAGE event listener, but adding that didn't help at all.
I am attempting to make a class that handles the building in a game, but I can't get the object to come on stage. I can get everything to work if I am on the timeline, just not from this class. I've been getting this:
I have a class named Locator that I use to GeoLocate a user. There's a static method in that class called "locate()". This method then calls another method which sets a static variable called "loc" to an instance of a LngLat class.The issue I'm having is, when I call the locate method at Frame 1 on the scene, and then try to access the loc variable it shows as null... but when I trace the loc variable after it's set in the Locator class it shows as an object.[code]and then trace the variable at the end of the static method in the Locator class it shows as a object and the city is traced as expected.
This is not working. If I trace(urlPath) showing - null. var urlPath = ExternalInterface.call("window.location.href.toString"); if(urlPath != "[URL]"){ trace("Yes"); pageMsg.text = "this is html" } else { trace("no"); pageMsg.text = "This is swf" }
I am in the midts of this application, and it seems as when i pass in an array into a class, and try to place the same object in a diffrent context on the stage. It remembers the settings of that object from the previous class, even though i assign it as a new instance. Talking about Loader
the array looks like this
_meta:Array = {category: loader_object};
My document class
_firstview = new FirstView(); _firstview.object = _meta[0].category; //This is placed through an access modifier _secondview = new SecondView(); _secondview.object = _meta[0].category;
[Code]....
The object from the first screen now disappears and it shows up on the second screen, but it should appear on both screens
I tried to copy the array and the object, instantiated new Loader object, but it is still giving me the same results
why there would be this glich, how can an object not be copied properly, if it is stored in private variables within the class
I have a page that loads in links from an XML into an Array and displays them. When you rollover each link it is supposed to turn red. My problem is that I can only get it to make the last link to turn red. Also, when you rollover any other link the last one turns red. I need a way to set up a variable for each link. I have attached the files so you can see what I mean.
