Android :: Calculate The Direction Of An Object With Geographical Coordinates (latitude, Longitude)
Nov 2, 2011
I have the coordinates of a player and another object. Both are with geographical coordinates (Latitude and longitude). I have also the direction in what the player is facing (compass). How can I calculate the angle to the other object from the player direction? e.g. I want to know if the object is to the right/left of the player and how many degrees.

I have a map that I need to plot points on based on latitude and longitude. I have seen formulas for how do to this on a map that has a mercator projection, but the map I'm using has cylindrical equidistant projection used on it, and I haven't seen any for that.

I need to convert latitude longitude values into pixel positions as well as do the opposite. I've found many solutions to go from lat/lng->pixel, but can't find anything on the reverse.
A couple of notes:
The map is a fixed size, no zooming, no tiles. I don't need anything super accurate, its not important. Preferably mercator projection, but not required. I'm not actually display the result. (Any 2D projection) I can't rely on any web based API's, ie: no Google Maps
A solution in almost any programming language would be fine, as long as it doesn't rely on any platform specific APIs.
This is an example of going from lat/lng->pixel:
var y = Math.round(((-1 * lat) + 90) * (this.MAP_HEIGHT / 180));
var x = Math.round((lng + 180) * (this.MAP_WIDTH / 360));

How to you calculate the total rotation of an object in either direction?
I need to end up with a number of total radinas(or degrees) that is posotive or negative depending which way the object was rotated.

I'm developing a game atm, and I need some help on the mathematics/coding of colliding circles (and their change in x/y speed). What i need to know is how to calculate the direction and speed a circle has after colliding with a static (non-moving) circle. I know how to detect a collision between the two, but I'm not sure about the maths I need to give the circle the right speed and direction after the collision
If i do know how far away the two circle-points (in the middle of each) are to each other (in both x and y coords) would it be easy for me to find the new speed and direction of the large circle in the example above? I know that I somehow should use the angles to pretend the circle hits a flat "wall" (as it only hits one point), and then calculate the new speed/direction. My only problem is that I'm not sure how to decide the angle of this flat "wall" and how x and y speeds should change when colliding with a wall that is angled. Does anyone here have any insight, links or tips on how I can du this?

I'm still new to AS3, and I was wondering how to make an object point in the direction of another object and move towards it if they are a certain distance from one another. I haven't been able to find out how to do this from the Adobe devnet, so I thought I'd ask here.

What software to use to get to the following result:
- Geographical maps per country
- Country / District / Provence
- on click do ...
iMapBuilder for example lets you create a flash map but you can't embed it in Flash Builder and use controls on it. Sth like google maps but then Provence, Country, maps with only the frontier lines on it and not all of the details and streets.

i'm trying to work out how to get a movieclip (of an arrow) to rotate then move in the direction it is pointing, controlled using the keyboard. Below is the code i have written so far, I can't get it to move in the correct direction. I also can't get it to keep moving after only one key press.
stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keyPressDown);var stageW:uint=stage.stageWidth;var stageH:uint=stage.stageHeight;
var speed:Number = 5;
var angle:Number =45;

I am tweeing a bunch of rectangles randomly on stage.
Code:
TweenLite.to(thumbArr[i],1,{
x:Math.random () * (stage.stageWidth - thumbArr[i].width),
y:Math.random () * (stage.stageHeight - thumbArr[i].height),
rotation: Math.random () * (60) - 30});
the problem is that after I added random rotation (between -30 and 30 degrees), the corners of my rectangles are still sticking out of the stage at the end of the tween.
If I trace objects width and height after the rotation I get the new values but this still doesnt help me because I am tweening to that rotation.
Code:
mc.rotation = 20;
trace(mc.width);
trace(mc.height);

I'm working on a project that the user navigates around by clicking on icons in 3d space.When a user engages one of these icons, the camera should pan and zoom so that the selected icon appears in the center of the screen at its original height and size (this is so when the 2d overlay is created over the icon, that it is the same size as its 3d counterpart.My question is how to calculate the size a rendered object in a 3d view, I should mention that this is using the Alternativa 3D platform.So there's a camera at (x1, y1, z1) with a FOV of f, pointing at an icon at (x2, y2, z2), all being rendered in a view of dimensions w and h.

I am tweeing a bunch of rectangular shaped objects randomly on stage.
Code:
TweenLite.to(thumbArr[i],1,{
x:Math.random () * (stage.stageWidth - thumbArr[i].width),
y:Math.random () * (stage.stageHeight - thumbArr[i].height),
rotation: Math.random () * (60) - 30});
the problem is that after I added a random rotation between -30 & 30 degrees they still stick out of the stage a little.how could I calculate width & height of the these objects based on their final rotation so they dont stick out of the stage?

I'm having a problem changing the direction of a movieclip using hitTestPoint. I have some balls on the screen that only move left, right, up and down. and pending the way they are moving they have to change direction. if they're moving right they have to change to up. left to down, up to right and down to left. I tried the following code for getting a ball moving moving right to change to up. note: movingDir is just a string i use to keep track of how the ball is moving and is defined initially in another class. here is a snippet from the ball class:

I'm trying to set up a script which would force an object to move through the stage until a particular point and than change direction. I wrote something like that:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
moveUp = function () {
this._y -= 1;
if (this._y<-30) {
this.onEnterFrame = moveDown;
}};
moveDown = function () {
this._y += 1;
if (this._y>600) {
this.onEnterFrame = moveUp;
}};
this.onEnterFrame = moveUp;
}
But it doesn't work. the object moves only one direction and does not change it.

I as this working in AS2 and need to update to AS3...shows that AS3 doesn't like sloppy coding. Here's what I need: I pull data from an XML and that works when I put the data into a dynamic text box. However, I can't seem to get the date of birth into a variable. I have some code that calcs age in years but uses a string literal that I thought I could just replace with a variable from my XML...ain't a workin'. Here's the code I have:
ActionScript Code:
import flash.display.*;
import flash.text.*;
import flash.events.*;

We have a client server architecture where a C++ server talks to Flash clients. I'm developing the server and would like to send through tcp an xy coord to simulate a button press where the receiving flash client would find the topmost visible object at that coord and send a mouse event to it such that we could simulate play without a human present. I'm told this is incredibly difficult, but it seems to me that there must be a way to do this. Am I off the mark? Or is there a mechanism in flash to iterate through all objects regardless of parent child relationships to find a visible button at an x, y coord and signal a press event?

if AS supports anything similar to hashes in perl (okay, it's been a long time since I've done any coding).If I want to get the x and y coordinates of an object I do it like this:
ActionScript Code:
thumbnails[0].getXY()[0]; // Get X
thumbnails[0].getXY()[1]; // Get Y
and I'd rather it look more like this:
ActionScript Code:
thumbnails[0].getXY(){"x"}; // Get X
thumbnails[0].getXY(){"y"}; // Get Y
