View 2 RepliesI've been porting a Flex 4 codebase to iOS using the adobe packager, but have run into a snag when trying to package our whole codebase. The packager runs for a while and then throws an OutOfMemoryError - even if I increase the java heap size to 4GB. No single piece of code seems to be causing the problem, as it compiles successfully if I cut out large chunks of code, and I can change which chunks I'm omitting. Underneath that I will have "About Us, Contact, etc..." and those will each load an external SWF into my movie clip. My movieclip right now is called mcHolder. I need to load an external movie file into the root of my main movie, so it replaces the main movie, and when it loads, it loads at a specific frame (or label)of that newly loaded movie.
Explanation: My main movie, lets call it "Main.swf", has a button which is part of a drop down (tree) list. When you click on the button, I want to load my second movie called "bearings.swf", and to immediately go to frame #2 of the "bearings.swf" movie.

So I'm working on some localization stuff and I'm using the fl.lang.Locale library in AS3/CS5. I am using the strings panel, and can get stuff to the XML files in the proper XLIFF formats.I am attempting to be able to swap out text (and eventaully assets) at run time using the "Replace strings: via ActionScript at runtime" setting.As it is, I have to reference every text field directly by instance name. I have begun to place those text fields into a Dictionary to line them up with their proper IDS.I have 2 questions.
1) is there a better way to replace all of these text fields? there are a LOOOOOT of text fields spread out across many many scenes. Is there a built in "change all fields" function somewhere that I'm missing?

I've created a client with login acces in Flex. After the succesful login i have to show a table based on a mySQL server. The database is composed by some tables, and I have created 6 flex mxml components with each own scripts for each of those tables. How can i load sub-applications, for example with a PopUpButton or a TabBar in the main application?

I'm trying to load an XML file from the internet in a CD-ROM flash application and seem to be getting nowhere. The XML object needs to retrieve the results of a PHP script with 2 variables. The first being T (territory), and the second TYPE (type). The TYPE variable is currently fixed. In this situation, we will consider its value: 'bsc'. I have tried an on(change) handler on the ComboBox, and gotten it to at least produce the correct URL with both GET variables, but the XML object refuses to load.
I have tried using trace() outputs, the debugger, and every permutation of my code I can think of ... but with no results. I do know that my PHP code is working properly, and IS generating the output I exactly expect. What am I doing wrong, is there an access restriction between a local Flash file and the internet?

All tokens are set in corresponding build.properties and filter .properties files (and, as I said before, it compiles perfectly under mac and linux). The windows version is 7 Ultimate, FLEX_HOME is set as an environment variable to the Flex SDK 3.5 (the 3.5.0.12683 build that comes with Adobe Flash Builder Burrito). ${compiler.fork} is set to false, to avoid an issue with the SDK and the source files being in different logic drives.

i have an rtmp folder with videos,I am trying to do a seamless change to next video using nestsream play2 method.have tried using the fast switching of NetStreamPlayTransitions. SWITCH like below.[code]The problem is the switching is not happening.offset=-1 is supposed to be fast switching. The idea is to make a seamless transition to the next video.if we dont use any transition method or use opts.transition = NetStreamPlayTransitions.RESET;its the same as not using any. Now here comes my confusion/question(s). When a developer says something like that, are they saying that they ONLY use FDT to create their projects? If so then how are they going about doing it without the use of the Flash IDE? Do they just keep creating external .as classes and then link them all together or what?
In my 2 months of studying, I really feel like I have learned a lot, but I cannot seem to wrap my head around this. I want to break away from the Flash IDE (if at all possible) so that I can go deeper to the code.
Can I load a swf to a specific keyframe on browser refresh or if sent to another page on the site?Each page will have the same .swf header and I'd like to highlight or animate the header based on the new html page selected.

in addition: Is it possible to have an mc in the .SWF that will only load when the user pushes a button?
I've been having a problem with an interactive Flash CS5 project: when I navigate between frames using gotoAndStop(1); the program experiences the following error: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. I think this is because the first frame that the function goes to has none of the objects that have event listeners in frame 2. All I'm hoping to do is go back to the first frame. Would it be best to put everything on one frame and work from there? That seems unneccessarily complicated.

I've done a lot of Flash development and have been meaning to try out canvas for a while, but after browsing through some tutorials, I can't understand how this is supposed to replace Flash.
Note: I ask a lot of questions down here. I don't really expect them all to be answered. What I'm really looking for is some basic guidance about how I should be thinking while developing on <canvas>.
From the spec, it looks like <canvas> is really more analogous to the Graphics class in Flash, which one would use something like this:

Should I be treating <canvas> like a Sprite? Marking everything as position:relative should allow me to basically duplicate display list-type behavior (I don't believe that you can nest <canvas> elements, but you could probably do so by throwing in a bunch of <div>s). However, I use a lot of Sprites in my projects. That's going to be a metric crap-ton of tiny canvas elements. Also, how do you handle mouse events in <canvas>? Do they trigger if someone clicks on a transparent part of the canvas's box model (bad)? If I have a canvas with two circles in it and I need to know which one gets clicked on, do I have to do bounds-math with the mouse position?
