Flash :: Determine The Center Of A Circle Using Multiple Points?

Feb 10, 2011

I can do it on pen and paper using a compass, but can't do it in Actionscript 3.As the title says, essentially I need to find the centre of a circle using multiple points from the radius.

How do you get all the points that are on a circle?

I've already tried a for loop using the equation x^2 + y^2 = r^2 but so far it doesn't seem to be working...

I'd like to find out how because I want to place MCs dynamically on a random point that is outside a certain mc.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Finding Points On A Circle

Apr 18, 2009

I need to position objects equally spaced, on the perimeter of a circle. Question is: How can i find the points on the circle based on the number of objects i need to position, and how can i translate these points into another movieclip's coordinates? i thought to make a loop, and for each object (based on it's index in the loop) create a line from the center of the circle with a degree of 360/loop length * object index, and find the point where this line crosses the circle's perimeter.

I dont know though, how to actually implement my idea, i dont know the whole 'finding points' area etc, and I am not at all sure that my idea is the most light and effective solution. This thing i'd like to do (i think) is quite a common task, if you want a circular menu, or whatever, but i havent found anything anywhere around that could shed some light...

Flex :: Determine If A Series Of Points (or Polygon) Is Within A Rectangular Region?

May 20, 2011

I have been looking at posts about determining if a point lies within a polygon or not and the answers are either too vague, abstract, or complex for me. So I am going to try to ask my question specific to what I need to do.I have a set of points that describe a non-straight line (sometimes a closed polygon). I have a rectangular "view" region. I need to determine as efficiently as possible whether any of the line segments (or polygon borders) pass through the view region.

I can't simply test each point to see if it lies within the view region. It is possible for a segment to pass through the region without any point actually inside the region (ie the line is drawn across the region).Here is an example of what I want to determine (red means the function should return true for the set of points, blue means it should return false, example uses straight lines and rectangles because I am not an artist).

Another condition I want to be able to account for (though the method/function may be a separate one), is to determine not just whether a polygon's border passes through the rectangular region, but whether the region is entirely encompassed by the polygon. The nuance here is that in the situation first described above, if I am only concerned with drawing borders, the method should return false. But in the situation described here, if I need to fill the polygon region then I need the function to return true. I currently do not need to worry about testing "donut" shaped polygons

Here is an example illustrating the nuance (the red rectangle does not have a single vertex or border segment passing through the on-screen region, but it should still be considered on-screen):For the "does any line segment or polygon border pass through or lie on screen?" problem I know I can come up with a solution (albeit perhaps not an efficient one). Even though it is more verbose, the conditions are clear to me. But the second "is polygon region on screen?"PS I have a function for determining line intersection, but it seems like overkill to use it to compare each segment to each side of the on-screen region because the on-screen region is ALWAYS a plain [0, 0, width, height] rectangle.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Rotating Circle From Center With Mouse/

Jan 31, 2010

I have been working on this and thinking about it for days but I just can't seem to get it right. I want to have a circle that I can "pick up" with the mouse and then rotate (with the rotation point in the center). Currently I have done this with the following code:

PHP Code:

var radians = Math.atan2(mouseY-circle.y, mouseX-circle.x);
var degrees = Math.round((radians*180/Math.PI));
circle.rotation = degrees + 90;

I have added a mouse listener for movement to the circle mc and then checked if a button was down. On button down this code would be executed on enter frame. This code works but the main problem is that I want to be able to "pick the circle up" at any angle and rotate it. If I pick it up with this code the circle automatically rotates to 90 degrees.

-Make another rectangle and snap its left edge to the right edge of the first rectangle.

How would you make it so movement doesn't happen at the registration point but on the whole arm. Say i ran a rotation script on the upper arm with +=1 and the lower arm with +=2. How would you place the parts, what format would they be converted to and what would the script format be. Multiple methods would be welcome of course!

Flash CS4 :: Select Multiple Anchor Points Across Separate Layers?

Jan 24, 2010

I am talking about anchor points on a line, not a keyframe. They are also called "handles". I can select the anchor points as "white" quickly, but I can't get them to be "solid"without doing it layer by layer, which is tedious. What I want is way to select lines that are in different layers and get the points I selected in a way similar to the regular selection tool or free transform tool. Here is an image of what I'm trying to do, but more easily. The lines are on separate layers, but when I select them with the subselection tool I have to go layer by layer selecting the points. I'm trying to look for a very quick way of doing it. When I do select all with the subselection tool on, the anchor points are only "white" and not "solid" as shown below.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Atan2 Outputs The Following Angle Scheme - Assuming The Point Relative To Which The Math Is Done Is In The Center Of The Circle

Sep 16, 2011

So let's begin. I want to build a wheel which you can spin, similar to a roulette wheel. You can do this both ways (CW and CCW, this issue causing the bug, actually). The wheel has some acceleration to it too, and I achieve this by measuring the start and final angle of the drag movement, using Math.atan2(dy, dx). The problem is the following: atan2 outputs the following angle scheme, assuming the point relative to which the math is done is in the center of the circle.

atan2 returns a value measured in radians, so I'm using the classic angle*180/Math.PI formula. I've changed this original scheme into the following, using some simple math to shift the angles a bit, to resemble more accurate circle angles (going up to 360 degrees) The problem that I'm facing at the moment is should the user decide he wants to swipe clockwise, and moves through the right point, where 0 turns into 360 or 180 turns into -180, the whole angle difference thing is capsized. It registers a CCW movement (as if the user swiped his mouse all around the circle). So, I'm looking for some ideas as to how I can work around this small issue.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Rotating Multiple Objects And Every Circle Around It

Nov 17, 2011

I have an idea of a game in my head and I wan't to get somekind of functional demo of it done in flash (CS3). I've looked everywhere but couldn't find tutorial for it, as I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I'm not that good in Actionscript. I'm now trying to describe this problem. On screen there's 4 rectangles, 2 in a row. So it's 2 rows with 2 rectangles in each. between all of them theres 4 circles. If I activate a rectangle with mouse and use arrow keys to rotate it smoothly 90 degrees, 2 nearest circles rotate with it. And same thing happens with all of the rectangles.

So I'm looking for somekind of solution where rotating an object also rotates every circle around it. and when circle rotates 90 degrees with rectangle as it's center point, it can be also rotated with another rectangle. I think I can't explain this clearly?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Multiple Instances At Varying But Specific Points On Stage

Jul 12, 2010

add multiple instances of an object to the stage at different but not random points.

For example - I have a box that is linked to a class file. In the class file I have an "ADDED_TO_STAGE" event listener. The function that is called places the box at a certain position on the stage say.... x=100, y= 200.

In the document class I create an instance of it like so -

_box:box = new box();
addChild(_box);

Now what I want is to create multiple instances of box on the stage every 5 seconds. But I don't want them all to spawn at (100,200) on the stage. But here's the catch, I don't want them to be random spawns either.

for ex- I want the first instance of box to spawn on (100,200), then 5 seconds later, the second instance to spawn at (200, 800), the third at (100, 500) and so on.

Would it be possible for me to create objects on the stage to serve as reference points for where i want the instances to spawn instead of writing the exact co-ordinates?

Professional :: Select Multiple Symbols And Apply Scale Transform In Relation To Individual Registration Points?

Nov 18, 2011

I've been looking for a JSFL command that might do this, but haven't come across anything even remotely similar to what I'm trying to achieve. Perhaps there is another solution besides JSFL that someone might know of.Question: Is there a way that I can select multiple symbols (either in a single frame or across multiple frames) and apply a scale transform that will adhere to each symbol's registration point?

Scenario:In an animation sequence, a movieclip of a tall rectangle is tweened on the timeline using "classic" tween. There are 20keyframes, where the mc changes position and rotation.In a duplicate of that animation sequence, I want to change the height of all instances of the mc in the animation, but keep the position and rotation. The rectangle should stay a rectangle, only shorter.I go to a keyframe, select the mc, and enter the desired scale percentage for the height in the transform pane. Then I repeat this for the other 19 keyframes. Imagine the pain and suffering I go through when this is done for several sequences!

Ideally,I would want to use the "edit multiple frame" mode in the timeline, select all instances of the mc across all 20 keyframes, and apply the height transform to all mcs via JSFL or dark magic.Flash's default behavior transforms multiple objects as a group,so not only will it squash and shear the different mc instances(creating diamonds),it will also shrink the distances between the different positions(changing the path of the tweens).I'm looking for a way to apply the transform so that each instance scales to their own registration point,preserving their position and respective of their rotation.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Calculate The Direction And Speed A Circle Has After Colliding With A Static (non-moving) Circle?

Mar 8, 2005

I'm developing a game atm, and I need some help on the mathematics/coding of colliding circles (and their change in x/y speed). What i need to know is how to calculate the direction and speed a circle has after colliding with a static (non-moving) circle. I know how to detect a collision between the two, but I'm not sure about the maths I need to give the circle the right speed and direction after the collision

If i do know how far away the two circle-points (in the middle of each) are to each other (in both x and y coords) would it be easy for me to find the new speed and direction of the large circle in the example above? I know that I somehow should use the angles to pretend the circle hits a flat "wall" (as it only hits one point), and then calculate the new speed/direction. My only problem is that I'm not sure how to decide the angle of this flat "wall" and how x and y speeds should change when colliding with a wall that is angled. Does anyone here have any insight, links or tips on how I can du this?
