I need a few pointers on how to create multiple buttons programmatically with different event handlers, or rather: differently parametrized event handlers. My real use is a bit more complex, but it comes down to this: I need a button that can delete itself upon getting clicked.
var Buttons:Vector.<Button> = new Vector.<Button>;
var newButton = new Button;
var int = Buttons.push(newButton);
[code].....
I've been searching this forum and googling for quite some time, and I haven't been able to come up with anything. Anyway, here's a description:I have an array that has multiple instances of the same movie clip. I add them to the stage and then add an eventListener to each one.I have that working fine. The problem is, I'd like to add a filter to them and remove an eventListener once the eventHandler has been activated. However, I have no way to know which instance set off the eventListener. Is there any way I can pass that information into the eventHandler function? Or is there any way I can access the parent from the evenHandler itself? [code]
View 3 RepliesI am looking for a way to programmatically dissassoicate the click handler function from a button on my mxml component through actionscript code.
Something like what older actionscript let you do,
mybutton.click = null;
I've got a bar chart with some elements.values as this:
[Code]...
This doesn't work, although the openflashchart doc says Each dot can have its own on click event. and Don't forget that all charts can have on click events
I have a button labeled 'blueButton' and I'd like to use an anonymous function to handle the click, like so:
blueButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function(event:MouseEvent):void {
trace( "-----click detected-----" );
// now do other stuff
});
Problem is, the click handler is called multiple times per click. The number of times called seems to be random (sometimes 2, sometimes 4, sometimes 3 etc). could I be missing something in my code, or maybe I set up the button wrong?
also I noticed that it seems to always get called once on the first click. After the first click is when it starts getting called additional times, maybe that has something to do with it?
I am using a loop to add 10 shapes to the stage, then i just want to click on one at a time, in any random order and make it alpha 0, im using this code.. it gets rid of some shapes but not all. i dont get it?
Code:
var shape:MovieClip;
for (var i:Number = 0; i < 10; i++)
{

I've been learning AS3 lately and am trying to put together an interactive map. I've brought in some map data and converted it to individual movie clips, each of which has an instance name that I'd like displayed when each clip is clicked on. ideally an informational box would appear with the name of the clip and some other info that I've specified.
What do I need to script so that if one clicks on a movie clip, the instance name is displayed?
I am building a flash interface and I would like a menu where it is hidden to begin with (just a tab). You click the tab to expand it, and click again to collapse it. I've made a movieclip with animation of the menu opening up and closing, but I can't seem to work out how I'd go about making the movieclip open and close properly.
View 4 RepliesI am creating a library like flash file for our game. I am using adobe flash cs5 with as3 and adobe indesign. I am still very new at flash(a real newbie) and i am wondering if anyone could help me in my problem.
i have a movieclip file named "mainPage". mainPage contains 6 buttons (with a cyrstal design) but lets focus only on 1 button. The 1st button contains the name Art_btn which calls the movieclip artBook when the button is clicked (which is my problem) . I have another movieclip named "artBook". the contents in my artBook are separated or written on each frames that could be called when clicked next or prev.
here is my prob. i dont know what is the right code that would call for artBook when Art_btn is clicked.i tried inserting codes such as loadMovie, gotoAndPlay and addChild but when I test it, the mainPage contents doesnt show up and it produces errors.

i am developing one small imteractive game.in that i'm getting one difficulty.Difficulty is: i want to play a moviclip whenever i 'll click on button ,and .For that i hav applied logic in following way.[code]whenever i'am clciking on first movieclip(btn), it definitly goes to 0(i.e off), but 2nd movieclip(instance name "alpha") is not coming to 1.
View 3 RepliesI placed a movie clip instance inside a button, and I want this movie clip to play when the button is released. I'm using this code on the frame containing the button:
function playMovie(event:MouseEvent)
{
this.theButton.theMC.gotoAndPlay(3);
[code].....
I want to get this to work:
private function frigganWork(event:MouseEvent):void
{
trace("WTF?");
navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://stackoverflow.com/questions/ask"), "_self");
}
but I get an error: "Call to possibly undefined method frigganWork."
I'm trying to put a label and an image on a UIComponent, side-by-side. I want to use UIComponent for efficiency reasons, and the entire component is more complicated than just a button with an icon.
I'm trying to get a click handler on ther entire UIComponent so that when a click happens on either the label or the image, the same [click] event handler is called. If I add a click handler on the root component, it works, but when I introduce space between the label and the image, the space between them becomes un-clickable. I produce the space by using the move(x,y) method for the label and the image with a small gap between the x/y coordinates.
I'm trying to start a function from within a click handler that is being triggered when I load some XML, just like this:
Code:
function LoadSomeXML(e:Event):void {
thumbContainer_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, thumbClick);
} function thumbClick(event:MouseEvent):void {
startImgSlider();
} function startImgSlider():void {
trace("ok, now you reached 'startImgSlider()' function !!!");
}
The problem is that I cannot reach the startImgSlider() function with the code above. How to do it right. Has something to do with the scopes?
Movieclip I want to fade out: "StartupText_mc" Within "StartupText_mc" I have a frame labels "normal" on the first frame and "over" on the last. On the actions layer I have "stop();" on the first and last frame. On the third layer I have a simple alpa tween from 100% to 0%.
Now, Back to the main scene where the button "ProductMarketingIcon2_mc" and "StartupText_mc" exist next to each other. Here is the code I have for the button:

I am new to Flex. What I am looking for here is adding a click handler on all the items created by a SkinnableDataContainer. I tried several things that didn't work, and I have no idea what is the right way to do it.
<s:SkinnableDataContainer id="teamList" itemRenderer="TeamSummaryRenderer">
<s:dataProvider><s:ArrayList>
<fx:Object teamName="A super team 1"/>
<fx:Object teamName="A super team 2"/>
<fx:Object teamName="A super team 3"/>
</s:ArrayList></s:dataProvider>
</s:SkinnableDataContainer>
Furthermore, I don't want to declare the handler in my custom TeamSummaryRenderer component. I would prefer that the handler code stays at application level.
Is there an event that is dispatched when a text input gets clicked (i.e. to add text), but not after text has been added, simply when it is clicked? It won't have changed, and text won't have been entered.

I have what seems to be a simple task, yet I cannot seem to figure it out. I am busy creating a project in ActionScript 3, and while I am fairly fluent in ActionScript 2, I am being stumped a bit here.
I have a simple dynamic text field inside a button object. This text field has the name of txt_title. I have attached event handlers to change the alpha of the buttons when they are hovered over, however I also want to change the value of the text field within the button, when hovered over. My event listener looks like follows:

I was just wondering why it is that after I have clicked a button to run a movieclip, I have to click it twice to run it again? I would like to be able to run it again with just one click - it is for a true and false set of questions. The movieclip is an animation that runs if correct (and there is another if it is incorrect.
Here is the button script
on (release) {
_root.tf1_mc._visible=false;
_root.tf2_mc._visible=true;
_root.tf2_mc.gotoAndPlay(1);
}
comment: tf1_mc runs when the true button is clicked and tf2_mc runs when the false button is clicked. The script above is for the false button
What I want to do is have one movieclip that has many frames and turn that into a button and then make different instances of the button and have those instances display a certain frame of the underlying movieclip.
View 17 RepliesI am using ScrollPane component of as2.0, but I want to move the scrollPane left an right by clicking external button does it possible? this button can work like the functionality of LeftArrow anf RightArrow in scroll pane.
View 1 RepliesI have some images I would like to display in TileList in Flex. My TileList dimensions are 2 columns by n rows. What I want to do is to display the first item (row 1, column 1) empty and not clickable, and to start displaying my items from row 1, column 2.I also wonder when I create click event for the same TileList, is there a way get an index of clicked element?
View 1 Repliesadd a click event handler to the vertical axis (or any axis) of a barchart in flex? If I add the handler to the BarChart itself, it looks as though the event doesn't fire unless you click on the actual chart, not the axes.
View 1 RepliesI have made a sort of drop down menu of a movieclip. There are actually two, the first one named list_over_mc is only to detect when the mouse is in the area for when to drop down the menu (onRollOver) and the other one, list_mc, is holding the menu itself. The problem is that when the menu is down nothing happens when I click the button (now named knapp1_btn). I have tried with another but with the same sort of script (but placed outside of the movieclip list_over_mc) and that works so I'm guessing it is because the button is "over" the other movieclip.
View 3 RepliesI'm almost 100% sure that I have to write an if, else statement for this. Below is the code I have for a button(movieclip) I created. It is suppose to play an animation when you click on it. Then when you click it again it's suppose to play a second animation that will take it back to the original state. What is happening is, it goes straight to the clicked state without playing the animation. However when you click the second time it plays the animation that takes you back to the original state. Am I correct in believing the only way to get the animation to play on both clicks is to use an if, else statement.
function clickPlus(event:MouseEvent):void {btn1.gotoAndPlay("clickOpen"); }btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickPlus);
function clickX(event:MouseEvent):void {btn1.gotoAndPlay("clickClose"); }btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickX);
btn1.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickPlus);
I have browse button on stage. when i click this i am uploading a image to a movieclip. then the movieclip is added to the stage. my issue is when i click the browse button 2nd time i need to select another image and add to another movieclip and display it to the stage
View 2 RepliesI got this code but when i click on another button is is still there how do i get it to disappear? I have two movieclip one is the snow and another movieclip is an empty mc called snow2
ActionScript Code:
i =0;
while (i<25) {
//duplicateMovieClip (dot, "dot" +i, i);
dot.duplicateMovieClip("snow"+i, i);
i++;
[Code].....
public function mc1():Void {
for (i=0; i<9; i++) {
c = c+30;
//here my_clip is a refrence to stage
var mc_new = my_clip.attachMovie("mc_bread", "bread_"+i, my_clip.getNextHighestDepth()+1, {_x:80, _y:385-c});
mc_new._visible = false;
[Code] ......
See the function visibility I am trying to set visible a movieclip on a click of a button. this code gives no error but still movie clip is not visible.
I am building a navigation menu with buttons that call and show a movieclip just below the button. I have no more compiler or output errors. Despite this, I still dont have a working navigation menu.The movieclips are only found in the library and are being called by buttons on the timeline. I currently have all the actionscript on frame 1 on a separate layer of the main timeline. None of the buttons or movieclips have code associated with them individually.The code I have created is as follows (I omited some bc the functions get repetitious).
Code:
stop()
va html_con_mc = new MovieClip
[code].....
