Flash :: Loading A SWF Dynamically Causes Previously Loaded SWFs To Misbehave
Mar 26, 2010
I have run into a very strange problem with Flash and Flex. It appears that under certain circumstances, movie clips from a SWF loaded at runtime (using Loader) cannot be instantiated if another SWF has been loaded in the mean time. Here is the complete code for a program that reproduces the error. It is compiled using mxmlc, via Ensemble Tofino:

I have a main fla file which loads an external swf into an empty movieclip on the main timeline which works fine but I want a button in the external swf to load another external swf into another empty movie clip on the main timeline.eg. start.swf loads UKEIAMap.swf into (empty movie clip within start.swf) MapLoader_mc then a button havant_b within UKEIAMap.swf needs to load HavantProjectSheet.swf into (empty movie clip within start.swf) ProjectSheetLoader_mc without unloading UKEIAMap.swf

Im making a movie with a menu that loads movie clips according to which menu is selected simple enough. However, the newly loaded movie clip also needs to allow the user to load another movie into the main movie effectively swapping the first movie clip with the second. This needs to be done without using the main menu.

I have a parent SWF (Parent) that handles user navigation between multiple children SWFs (Child_1, Child_2, Child_3). How do I add event listeners to the navigation buttons on the children SWFs so that the user can move laterally between Child_1, Child_2 and Child_3? I can think of two options but can't get either one to work:
1) The parent SWF sets up the event listeners when it loads a child. So, I use a loader on Parent to load Child_1 and in Parent add eventlisteners to Child_1.myNavigationform.myButton.
The problem here is that the Parent is only handing the loader instance and I can't think of how it would drill down to the individual objects within Child_1.
2) Child_1 adds the event listeners to its own objects. This just reverses the problem. Child_1 has no problem accessing its own buttons but when a user clicks them it has no way of accessing methods on parent so that Child_2 can be loaded.

Flash - 8 : Above is an example of what I would like to do/have done. I've gotten as far as loading the "loaded.swf" into the "start.swf" but my problem is I'd love to use that little loading action I made earlier without copying and pasting into the new movie the same actions for a different link. So, how do I load "loaded2.swf" into "loaded.swf" via the link in "loaded.swf"?

Having trouble targeting movieclips in a dynamically loaded swf. (Flash 8, Actionscript 2).I have a swf file, which contains a set of duplicated movieclips, that I am loading into another swf file (using the movieClipLoader() class), basically like this: "swfA" is loading into "swfB", and I have clips 1, 2, and 3, inside "swfA."I don't seem to be able to mouseover and click clips 1, 2, and 3, when "swfA" is loaded into "swfB". But when I run "swfA" on it's own, the clips are active and clickable.I've tried setting "this._lockroot = true;" at the top of "swfA", and tha in the duplicating script, but still no luck targeting the clips.I usually execute the duplicating script on the main swf (swfB), but I wanted to contain everything in a swf, thinking it might be simpler. But the targeting problem has me scratching my head.

how can you controll them as they are coming in? For example: i want to load three swfs but i want them to sit invisible until the user clicks a button to change visibility and see the content. The problem seems to be that you can't control it until it's all there... here's the code i have been trying.[AS]function

I'm writing a preview site that will load SWFs/images from a URL into a preview pane. However, the primary problem I'm running into is actually loading these SWFs. It seems that the object/embed tags require width/height attributes. I will not know the exact size of these SWFs; in fact, I will know absolutely nothing about them.
What I'm asking is, what is the best way to load in these SWFs? Is there a library that exists to do this? Or do I need to do it myself?

- Flash CS4 Actionscript 2.0 internal training project- Main movie is a single frame project, containing just the interface. This includes a menu listing 80+ individual "chapters" for the training series.- Each "chapter" is its own project/swf. Once the main interface loads, it should begin to play the chapters sequentially without the user selecting anything from the menu. When one chapter finishes, the next should load. If the user DOES select a chapter in the menu, it should load that SWF, and continue auto-playing from that selection forward.- Each chapter has a built-in play/rewind/ff bar, various movie clips with animations, dialogue audio track and a fairly lengthy embedded FLV movie, and therefore a preloader before each chapter is mandatory.What I have so far works, but it's embarrassingly crafted:- First frame of main movie (let's call this main.fla) contains the following code (most of this code was taken from an online tutorial):
var slideName = "modules/intro.swf";
var loader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
loader.addListener(this);

I'm working on a project where I need to load a series of dynamically generated swfs. The catch is that the composition of each swf depends on the result of loading the previous swfs. For example, if I generate a swf (just writing bytes to a ByteArray), call it A, then load that swf...
loadBytes(A)
//wait for COMPLETE event
//generateBytes for B
loadBytes(B)
//wait for COMPLETE event
//generateBytes for C
loadBytes(C)
etc...
It turns out that this is very slow. It doesn't matter how simple the swfs are -- 40 or 50 of these can take several seconds. This is just too slow for my needs. How I might speed this process up? Is there some way to make the loadBytes calls finish more quickly? Or maybe an alternative, faster way to dynamically load actionscript bytecodes?

Code:
// Array of external clips to use. Variable index refers to next clip to be displayed.
var clips:Array = ["clips/clip0.swf", "clips/clip1.swf", "clips/clip2.swf", "clips/clip3.swf"];
[Code]....
I am hoping to modify it so I don't have to "hard-code" the "folder/filename.swf" into the var clips:Array line...that way anyone can upload swfs into the "clips" folder and thisLoader will take care of the rest...

I am creating a 40 slide presentation with soundtracks, narration, and animations.Each slide is a separate swf clip).I have noticed that when I load a new clip, the previous clip is still loaded (I wasn't using any background so I could see through the first clip and see the second).This tells me that I should consider unloading the previous clip or use backgrounds.Putting on a background is easy however if I should want to unload the previous clip, how do I do that?Here is how I load the next clip:
mmBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,loadMM);function loadMM(event:MouseEvent):void {trace("Main Menu Button was Pressed")var loadMain:Loader;loadMain = new Loader();addChild(loadMain);loadMain.load(new URLRequest("mainMenu.swf")); }
Some slides will have many navigation options and others will only have one or two.I have AS in each slide to keep each slide self contained. This makes it easier for me to develop and test.Is there a way to remove the current slide contents (from the stage and memory) and load the next slide? I'm really concerned about the memory usage.

I play back videos in my application. When a video completes or finishes, the user may play it again. However, when I reload a new video, I see and hear a brief moment from the previously loaded video.
I am replaying the next video by simply calling play(newVideoFilename) with my netstream object.
Is there something else I need to do to clear the previously loaded content?

I have an SWF called A.swf which dynamically loads other assets from a relative path. However, if I want to load this A.swf into B.swf, for the dynamic loading in A.swf to work properly, A.swf and B.swf have to be in the same path. But I want A.swf to be in another folder, along with its assets.
There are no broken paths - if the loading path was relative from A.swf, all the assets would load correctly, but when I load A.swf into B.swf, all the paths start from B.swf, even if they are requested from A.swf, and that causes problems for me.

I'm using a preloader and MovieClipLoader to seemingly good effect and I have an ending sequence to my preloader where it plays out once the target clip is loaded. The ending sequence features within the preloader itself (preloader_mc.endingClip). preloader_mc plays through its frames with:
[Code]...
until it gets to 100% and then gets to a frame telling endingClip to play. All good unless the target clip is already loaded. Then what happens is that the preloader jumps to 100% and only plays the ending sequence. I would like to have a way of checking to see if the target clip has already been loaded so as to avoid displaying only this ending portion of the preloader.

I'm working on a portfolio site that I'm pretty much done with, but I'm having trouble with the loading order of the thumbnails on the site. The work in the portfolio is grouped into clients, and within each client, there are thumbnails that display the selected work. This will probably make more sense if you can see what I'm talking about: [URL]. (Only the first two clients are enabled at the moment). Specifically, when the page is first loaded (from a web server) the thumbnails show up in the wrong order. When the page is refreshed, the thumbnails are displayed in the correct order.
The thumbnails always display in the correct order when being viewed locally, or in the Flash Test Movie environment. I'm pulling in the data from an xml file into an array, and iterating through the elements of the array with a for...next loop, I'm loading the thumbnail images with a MovieClipLoader instance. Using the onLoadInit event, I then set the horizontal position of each thumbnail clip. As much as I'm looking for reasons why the order could be switching. I suspect it has to do with which thumbnail image finishes loading first - in which case, how to force the images to load in the correct order. Maybe I should use if...then and load the next thumbnail only when onLoadComplete fires?

This question relates to the gallery that I'm working on; basically, I am now trying to add text comments which change according to which button you press to the images. I know how to make this work by applying actionscript to each individual button, but I would like to put all of the actionscript on one layer, meaning that I would have to use the 'button.onRelease = function ()' operation instead of the 'on (release) { function" operation.The code is a variation of Kirupa's code for the tutorial on loading information from an XML, and the xml is his completely. Here it is so far:
xmlData = new XML();
xmlData.ignoreWhite = true;
xmlData.onLoad = loadXML;

I am creating a Flex application with a component that displays various dynamically loaded SWFs, one at a time (kind of like a kiosk). These loaded SWFs are created in Flash IDE, not Flex. They will not be created by us (we will provide a .fla template but that's it), so I am loading them into a separate SecurityDomain.
My Questions:
I want the application to be able to call methods inside the loaded SWF. To do this, would I just call Security.allowDomain("domain original app was loaded from") in the startup process for the loaded SWF? I want the loaded SWF to be able to throw events that are caught by the application. Can I accomplish this through the SWFLoader.swfBridge property? I am defining an interface for the methods inside the loaded SWF. But, I don't want to leave the implementation up to the customer. Instead, I want to provide another SWF that contains the interface implementation and have it be a constraint that the customer includes it in their SWF. I am not very familiar with the Flash authoring environment, how would it work so that the interface implementation SWF exposes its methods in such a way to be accessible to Flex? Is there a way to sign the SWF so that the Flex application knows that it is dealing with the original, not a spoof? How would the Flex code pass in arguments, since it is across SecurityDomain boundary -- is there marshalling involved (say if I want to pass in a Dictionary or some kind of object graph)? The Flex application may load hundreds of these smaller other SWFs during its lifetime. How do I make sure it doesn't keep using up more memory? I plan on using SWFLoader.unloadAndStop() and clearing all references in the Flex object that refers to it. Is this enough? Will the AppDomain for the loaded SWF be torn down automatically so that the class definitions are no longer in memory?

I'm using Loader::load() successfully to load swfs into my main swf and then I add them as a child of a Sprite. When other events occur I want to remove the swfs as needed. I have looked at unload() and at removeChildAt() without success.
I only added the addChild() call to try to pin down the loaded instance so I could remove it. The loading works fine without the addChild();
I have also tried publishing to player v.10 and using myLoader.unloadAndStop(); but this has no effect either;
The following demo code shows my problem. I see one child added and one removed but intro.swf is still playing away.
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.display.LoaderInfo;

Our creative team produces SWF animations in the Flash CS5 authoring tool that we (the engineers) load at runtime into a project built using the Flex SDK. Animations that don't use the "3D rotation tool" work just fine.
Animations that use the 3D rotation tool give the following behavior:
MovieClips that have 3D tweens applied using the 3D rotation tool show up in the top-left corner of the stage as if they had no transform at all (i.e. as if their Matrix3D was being ignored, and their Matrix was identity) MovieClips that have normal 2D tweens animate properly Alpha and other non-affine properties tween properly
Both 3D and non-3D animations play fine when loaded by themselves in a browser tab or the standalone flash player. 3D is only broken when loaded into our code generated SWF.
So it seems that for MovieClips with 3D transformations applied in the CS5 authoring environment, those transformations aren't being applied / respected when the SWF is loaded by our code SWF.
This is my first foray into 3D, so I'm not sure what could be causing this, but here's what I've tested / checked / tried, all to no avail:
I've ensured that actionscript 3 and Flash Player 10 / 10.1 is selected in the authoring environment. I've tried loading animations into code SWFs built using Flex 4.1, 4.5, and 4.6 at Flash player versions 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, and 11 I've applied Matrix3D to the containers that load the SWF animations, both identity and rotated. I can see the rotated containers do work with 3D in perspective, so I know that my code SWF is 3D capable.

Background: I have a class called MultipleChoiceQuestion which pulls the stem and choices from an xml file. The choices for each question are randomized. The Quiz class has a set of specified multiple choice questions which it loads dynamically. It also references the xml file to determine # of questions. The quiz controls the question progression based on correct answers. The main movie launches the quiz at the appropriate time.
Issue I want the question building to be dynamic and load the choices and randomize them. How do I do this? Right now I publish the quiz as a swf and then load it into the main movie, but that is static and always has the same choices in the same order. How can I do this dynamically?

I have a "photo" gallery that loads numerous SWFs through xml, one by one on click. All works fine. All my SWF work fine stand alone. But when I load them into the player, many swf dont work properly.in example, I have textinput textfields in many of the swfs, which work fine on their own but not when loaded into the player. Then I have a word search game that works fine when alone, not when in player. I can see there is something as my mouse cursor changes into the "button finger", but nothing visual.
All drag and drop assigments work fine etc. I have no idea whats up. I have receantly switched to as3 and in as2 there was _lockroot declaration that solved similar problems, but now in as3 (where it supposedly should be automatic) it doesnt work. As it seems that it cannot recognise it own stage value, or selection_focus when loadedinside another swf through xml.Using cs4, as3.

Here's what i'm trying to do:
I have 3 different movieclips that acts as buttons. These 3 buttons are called mc_projekt1, mc_projekt2 and mc_projekt3.
When one of the buttons are clicked, they will load an external swf.
Here's my code for doing this with the first button (mc_projekt1):
Code:
// Projekt1
content.mc_projekt1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, projekt1);
function projekt1(e:Event):void{
[Code].....
This works fine and all, but what I'm doing right now is repeating the code above for each of the 3 buttons (mc_projekt1, mc_projekt2, mc_projekt3) and just simply add a "2" after each function instead. So for mc_projekt2, it's imageLoader2 and loadImage2 etc. This also works fine, but I know I'll be adding more buttons over time and in the end I'll end up with a lot of the same code that way.
So I was wondering if by adding mc_projekt1, mc_projekt2 and mc_projekt3 and any future "mc_projekt" to an array this could all be done much simpler, I'm just not sure what to do ...

I found some handy script on xml flash menu, in which I've modified the code to how I would like everything to look and behave. Only, because I am new to this business of not having anything on the timeline, I do not know how to set the menu buttons as links to external swfs. I would like the buttons (menu items) to load an external swf into a holder on click. Then I would like the menu to collapse as it does when another main menu is clicked.
