Flash :: Move Playhead Of A MovieClip And All Its Children?
Dec 22, 2011
I am converting complex animations from vector to bitmap. It is easy to convert them to bitmap when the animations are in the main timeline. However, when there are animations inside animations it all becomes very messy because I need to move all those playheads recursively.
I'm trying to make a simple animated movieclip act as a preloader for a larger website, and have its play reflect the percentage that has been loaded. I've seen a lot of code for various preloaders that involve text or a movieclip being scaled, but not anything regarding controlling the playhead of a movieclip.
This is what I thought would work. PreLoaderMC is the class name of a MovieClip symbol in the .fla's library. I've omitted the Loader stuff [code]...
I have a Flash image gallery containing both images and captions fed by an XML sheet. I have an HTML hyperlink in the XML (wrapped in CDATA tags) that I want to control the Flash movie with, i.e. go to frame 70 when link is clicked.
I have simple flash CS4 file (AS3) with a video playback component in a movie clip called "video". The only other thing in this flash movie is a script to load another SWF file as soon as the video is done playing....If I use stop() on the frame with the video - it will play - but then the playhead will not move forward to the next frame which has the next script and if I leave the stop() off - it plays only a a few frames of the video and moves on to the next frame and executes the script that loads the swf file.
Everything I've read requires a button event - and I don't need a button. I just need the video to play - then the next script to execute. Here are the only scripts in the flash movie:
***************************** // in the frame containing video component stop() *********************************** // in the next frame after video component. stop();

Is it possible to have a script that sends the playhead to specific frames randomly, wait for say 8 seconds then move on?For example, frames 1-20 will have an image on each frame. I want the playhead to land on those frames in a different order and keep looping.
I want to have a rollover effect of a movieclip (mo1) inside a movieclip (mo) of another movieclip (popup1).Is it possible to do that? I try calling it using this code in the frame 1 of my flash, am i doing wrongly?
to stop the playhead at a frame in a movieclip should AS3 use "MovieClip(this).stop();" rather than just "stop();" ?
the movieclip is nested within several others dynamically and therefore cannot easily be referenced directly from the stage, if that would be otherwise preferable...
I am trying to stop the playhead from within a movie clip and when I test the scene (the movieclip) it works but when I test the main timeline scene, it stops the frame within the movie clip but continues on the main timeline. On the frames that stop I am using a script that will allow it to continue when the space bar is pressed. How can I stop it on the main timeline, and within the movie clip at the same time?Is their a way to do something like _root.stop(); or something?
How can I reliably iterate through a MovieClip for every child?
I'm working on a game and a great way to lay out my levels is inside a MovieClip, with each frame being a new level. The problem is that when I move on to frame 2 or 3 and try to iterate through the MovieClip's children, I'm getting a different number (less) than is actually on that frame.
I think it's because the instances from the previous frame are being carried over to the new frame.
A simple solution is to create a new MovieClip for every level instead of a new frame inside each MovieClip, but this isn't the most scalable solution (say I want to remove a level or add a level between other levels, etc).
Is there a way to dynamically tell if the main timeline's (or a MovieClip's) playhead is moving or has stopped? I know I can manually set a boolean variable and then toggle it between true and false:
I am having difficulty with getting the playhead to move inside a movieclip based on the horizontal or vertical position of the mouse on the screen. I can get the horizontal motion to move the playhead, but I can't get the vertical movement to do the same. I have attached the document class .as file for it.
I creating a flash gallery(using flash first time) and found one problem. When i resize movieclip(container) it resize its children, so i could't resize them manualy to dimensions what i need. How i can disable resizing of children of movieclip?
In haxe I have a DropDownMenu class that extends MovieClip:
class DropDownMenu extends MovieClip { ...
TextFields are added to DropDownMenus (about 50 TextFields total):
// in a loop in DropDownMenu new method addChild(myTextField);
When a DropDownMenu is displayed the items further down are hidden as the menu goes off the bottom of the flash player. How can I make these DropDownMenus scroll?
I've considered doing something on the rollout mouse event. However I imagine MovieClip provides some mechanism for scrolling its contents.
I'm having issues with something I used to do all the time in previous version of Flash. On my Main Timeline I have a "looping" MovieClip (myArrows_mc). This MovieClip's timeline just has some simple animation, for instance some arrows that run across screen. There are no stop() actions, so once the playhead reaches the end of the MovieClip's timeline, it just goes back frame 1 and plays again.
Now I want to animate a simple shape Mask over top of the MovieClip. However, everytime the playhead gets to a keyframe in the Mask Layer, the MovieClip getting masked goes back to frame 1 and plays.
In other words, let's say myArrows_mc has 100 frames of arrow animation. On the Mask layer, I have tweened a simple oval shape from 1 side of the stage to the other. The shape tween has keyframes at frame 1, 50, and 64.
When I test the movie, everything looks fine (the arrows are looping) until the playhead reaches frame 50. Then the myArrows_mc, even though it hasn't reached the end of the arrows animation (frame 100), goes back to frame 1 and plays. Then when the main playhead reaches 64, myArrows_mc again resets to frame 1 and plays.
How can I animate a Mask over a MovieClip (not a Graphic) at authortime? Also, I need the Mask to be either a shape/motion tween or a graphic... it can't be it's own MovieClip, because I need to keep it "tied" to the Main Timeline.
I have placed 3 movieclips named mcParent, mcChild1, mcChild2 and 1 textbox in flash. child are childrens of parent movie clip. child1 and child2 both are of sizes 300 whereas parent movieclip is 600px, textbox is placed inside child2 movie clip .
I have made the flash to auto resize according to the screen area. Everything works well, but after resize it resizes parent and all childrens and textbox which is correct. The problem is with the correct placement of textbox on mcChild2. I have seen that after resize, mcParent width and scalex both changes but the child clips doesn't changed its sizes even they are stretched but there sizes are not updated due to which I am unable to get the exact location of where to place the textbox.
I'm making a OSX-finder-type file browser in CS4.The Structure for the folder and files is being generated by a PHP in a XML, heres an example:(sorry the xml is not sorted, but the command i'm using in php doesn't sort it)
I want to declare a variable on the main timeline that can be called from anywhere in my movie. So, _global var should be the right approach. I want to declare a movie clip 'MC1' "open", or "closed" so that when it is revisited, my flash file knows the user has been there before and performs a different task from the one it does when 'MC1' was first encountered. So, i need a 'if' statement to run from the variable, when the playhead encounters the movieClip.
when I have one movieclip mc1, mc2 is child movieclip in mc1. How can i copy mc1 to mc1_1 with all children movieclip ? if i use attachMovie or duplicateMovieClip, i only copy mc1 without mc2.
How do I move the origin point, or zero point, of a MovieClip to the same origin point of the stage without scripting in Adobe Flash CS3?
Example: While I'm trying to move objects within a MovieClip, the origin point is at (stage) 200,-300. This means that when I put objects in a MovieClip, the objects' X,Y coordinates, as displayed in properties, are off by that much.
This point is way off the edge of the stage and I'd like to move it back to the stage's origin point so that my X,Y coordinates are meaningful.
i trying reuse a function many times so i decide to put it inside the timeline and whenever the movieclip move it will call the function, but it dont work. -_-
I need to move a movieclip based on mouse x position. Like this site [URL] - Which I built using a flashloaded app, but I need more control in this project so I'd like to code it without the app. Basically, I have an image of a boy (left) and a girl (right) and I want to move the boy slightly toward the girl when the mouse goes right and slightly away when the mouse goes left. But only about 25-50 pixels in each direction.
I've cobbled some code together from google searching and rough ideas, and it works in a way, but the boy jumps about 400 pixels to the left on the initial mouse move and then floats a bit too far right and left from there. Here's what I've got on the boyMC:
I have a piece of code like a the end of a timeline, most usually looping back to frame one or a stop() if I let the playhead play through to this frame then flash will freeze!
