View 1 RepliesI'm using the .unshift method therefore the newest values go into [0] and the rest are pushed down.
What is a good method to remove a value from an array once it has passed a certain length? For example i only want my array to hold 5 values.
Also, is there a method for clearing the entire array, ie removing all values? Or will i have to manually change all the values with a loop?
I'm trying to use a for loop to remove duplicate array values. I've tried pop, shift, and splice.
View 3 RepliesMy goal is to take an original array and subtract from it the values dynamically stored within another array to return a completely new array.
For instance, the pseudo code might read:
//original array
fruitArray = ["Apples", "Oranges", "Grapes", "Pears"];
//when user clicks button a new array is populated with one of the values found within fruitArray, after two //clicks the array might look like:
newFruitArray = ["Apples", "Grapes"];
//the resulting array would consist only of these values
finalFruitArray = ["Oranges", "Pears"];
I tried concatenating fruitArray and newFruitArray and removing the duplicate values but it's not quite working. !
I have an array which I am populating as I navigate through the site. Sometimes due to cicumstances apparently out of my control, I end up with two (never more) duplicate values consecutively placed in my array, here is an example:
groceries = ["bananas", "apples", "apples", "oranges"];
I need to run a script at all times that checks to see if this happens, and removes the second duplicate value, as well as it's corresponding key.How can I do this?
anyone knows how to pass an array values from an HTML into flash? Well, to begin I'll discuss what am I doing. I edited a twitter widget javascript which search tweets based on the hashtag I needed then passing it on an array per tweet and then displaying it using a <div> it updates once every 5 minutes. Now I want to display those tweets on a dynamic text on Flash. Let's say I will have 5 dynamic text placed on my flash file then; I want each of those dynamic text to have the tweets I have based on on my HTML arrays to be displayed in random.
View 2 RepliesIs there anyway where I can pass the Array values (not the array collection values) to the Bar charts or column charts using flex 3.5...
here is the thing i want:::
I have array values like this,,
array1 = [23, 49, 40, 239, 20, 80, 39,49,120, 24, 31,41];
and i want to show these values on the Yaxis and months on Xaxis....
I have two Qns,
1) how can I pass this array to Bar chart or column chart.
2) how do I need to show months on Xaxis. beacuse I'm asking this regarding, I have kept a filters that even if we want to see some months or a particular months or perticalar span of months... there on Xaxis it need to change the months dynamically depending on the filters..... (for ex, on Xaxis the values should be (Jan, Apr, Jun,Oct) if i select the 3 months period filter....)
I have written a logic to collect the values of those particular months into an array, but not understading how to pass this array to Bar chart,, beacuse there I don't know what Xfield and Yfield to be given....
Wanted to know if it is possible to make a bool-variable in flash that is set to 'false' by default. It then checks if a file exists at a certain location, and if so, the bool-variable is set to 'true' ?
Something like:
if (c:/myTextfile.txt == true){*do stuff here*;}
What would be the correct code?
I am trying to write my code as efficient as possible and I have a scenario

Now this piece of code never reaches the else condition. I want it to go to "else" condition as soon as either one of those initial 4 values returns false.
Which operator would do the job or am I missing something else entirely?
How do I initialize a vector with an array of values? I tried this and it complies fine, but does not work!

I am trying to create a dialogue system for a game that references lines of dialogue to be displayed from an array.Example:
var myArray:Array = new Array("My name is David.","I am a noob at actionscript.");
This all works fine, but what I really want to do is have the name "David" be a variable so that the user can change. The issue is that the array seems to convert any string variables into their string value so when they are referenced they only appear as the initial value of the variable.
Example:
var myName:String = "Empty";
var myArray:Array = new Array("My name is "+myName+".","I am a noob at actionscript.");
//user does something to change the variable myName
[code]....
Output: My name is Empty.,I am a noob at actionscript.When what I want is for it to say: My name is Jones.
I am trying to remove an object from an array. but from some reason its not working. I am under the impression that a splice accepts 2 parameters. the position of the array. and for parameter 2 , how many to delete from then on out.I just want to delete one array so I am doing this array. splice (i,0);but it isn't working. can someone tell me what i am doing wrong. enlighten me on how it suppose to work.

I have some variables created on the main timeline and a mc called options which will be where those variables can be manipulated. A way I've tried to this is by creating a first array(array1) and populating it will all the variable names found on the main timeline, and another array(array2) containing the values of the variables the user has changed(which are displayed on some dynamic text fields). To make these changes, an "apply" button is pressed which will set the values found in array2 to the variables in array1.[code]How would you do this so that var1, var2... are updated properly according to the values found in array2?And because array2 contains strings(read from dynamic textfields), how do you deal with that since var1 and var2 are numbers?
View 6 RepliesI have an array of buttons in a public var in _model.btnArray. I want to make a function that i can pass an index number parameter that will add addEventListener to the button at that index and removeEventListener to all other buttons in the array. The function creates a tempArray:Array and assigns _model.btnArray to it. Then it addEventListener to the index passed as a parameter to the function. Then it splices the passed index out of the tempArray and then loops through spliced tempArray to remove all the EventListeners from it. which should be the listeners on all the buttons except for that one spliced. but this isn't working, its giving me an error and i don't know why.should this be working or is it just wrong?
Code:
function addRemoveEventListener(num:Number){
var tempArray:Array = _model.btnArray;

I'd really like to be able to make Flash's array access syntax 'wrap' over the array's bounds.
Lengthy explanation -
var array:Array = ['a','b','c','d','e','f'];
To keep things simple, the first index is 0, and its value is the first letter, 'a'. To get that value, we'd do this -
array[0]; // returns 'a'
As long as the index you're using to access the array is between 0 and array.length (6 in our example,) everything works fine - but if you use an index outside of those bounds, you're shut down.
array[-3];
array[9]; // both return 'undefined'
Sometimes that's a good thing - sometimes you expect that to happen, and you're fine with it. Other times, you find yourself wishing (or at least I find myself wishing) that it'd behave a bit more like this -
array[-3];
array[9]; // both return 'd'
(e.g. a photo gallery that jumps back to the beginning when you click 'next' on the last photo)There's a little chunk of code I use over and over for this sort of thing, but it's always to alter the index before passing it into the array:
var index = -3;
while(index < 0){index += array.length}
array[index % array.length]; // returns 'd'
... and that's fine, but what I really want to do is extend the Array object itself so that it'll automatically 'wrap' index values that go out of bounds.TL;DR - Is index-wrapping possible by extending Flash AS3's Array object?
ive come across this method 'as' and I dont get it.I am following a tut, and i have an array with my objects stored in it(for reference to control these sprites).They are instantiations of my sprite class 'Ball.as'
Code:
for(i=0;i<3;i++){
var myMCs:Ball = myMCs[i] as Ball;
}
when I remove it - flash doesnt seem to mind its absence.
I am trying to display database details in a Flex datagrid and connected using HTTP Service. It was able to display details without any issue when I was working in the FlashBuilder 4.5, however, I deployed the bin-debug part in the Tomcat webserver to access it globally.
I am experiencing this error message when I am trying to access the swf file "HTTP request error Error: [IOErrorEvent type="ioError" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Error #2032"]. URL: http://localhost:8084/UA/details.jsp"
I tried to create the crossdomain.xml file and deployed in the root directory but still experiencing the same error.Here is my crossdomain.xml :

I am running into some trouble adding an array into another array to create a multi-dimensional array.The code appears as below:
var slideDataArray:Array = new Array();
var slideShowDataArray:Array = new Array();
slideDataArray[0] = xmlData.SlideShowParameters.SlideShowImagesDirectory;[code]........
I am looking for a means of placing the slideDataArray into a 'slot' or value of slideShowDataArray so that I can in the end pass the slideShowDataArray as a parameter to another function.As of now, the last slideDataArray appears 11 times (the loop runs 11 times) in slideShowDataArray and the way the code is written the slideDataArray is unique every iteration of the loop.
[code]I want to input a number and find a match for the number, returning the values on the row in to specific fields for each number. For example, if I input the number 10 in an input field, I want the number 1.2276, 0.00100, 106.38 and the rest of that row to output these values I have seen so many options, don't know where to start.

View 3 RepliesI have the following actionscript so far:
Code:

var trades = new XML();

Basically, in my xml, I obviously have many more <TradesMan> values, but my trace is only showing me the very first one. How can I put all of my values in some sort of array so I target them from elsewhere within my flash file?
how do i add up the vales of the array: a and find the total sum.[code]how do i add the numbers of all the values here?
View 1 Repliesi tried to add numbers with the following code and it worksNumber(ary[0]) + Number(ary[1])but when i do sum with for loop it doesnt work, anyone knows why?
var total:Number;
for(var i:Number=0; i<ary.length;i++){
total += Number(ary[i]);
}
So I have this if statement, the goal of which is to test whether or not any of the values in an array (all of which are numeric) are equal to the value of a certain variable. How might I do this? I know how to make the array, and how to set the values in the array, and how to use any one of them on its own (myArray[somevaluegoeshere]), but how do I use all of them at once? Is there a way to do this? Should I not use an array and instead use some other better way of which I do not know?

Another thing: how to access array values from outside of function?
I have 15 sets of x and y values, that should be stored together. I was thinking I could have an array, holding 15 other arrays, each holding the x and y value? Is that a valid way to do this? Also, is there a way to create those arrays holding the x and y, dynamically, so they just get numbered?
MainArray[
subArray[x1, y1];
subArray[x2, y2];

Obviously, above is not correct AS. Is this even a way to do this? Are there other much better ways?
I'm creating a simple "match this to that" game. The wrong matches are stored in an array and put back after the user clicks the "Check Answer" button.
There's one bug that I just can't seem to fix. I've marked the problem below in GREEN. It's best if you read COMMENT 1 before COMMENT 2.[code]...
