I seem to run into compile issues in Flash Builder when I import 3rd-party libraries at the wrong level in the directory structure. For example, sometimes I'll import a library one level too deep into its directory tree, and the package explorer ends up excluding the prefix root-level package, usually "com." or "net.". Even though the content of the source itself doesn't change, this will cause compile errors.

Thus: Is it a 1) convention or 2) language requirement that a class's package structure (e.g., "foo.bar.Class") must match its path location (e.g., foo/bar/Class.as)?
If it's a language requirement, why is it a requirement? Wouldn't that overdetermine the package structure, since it is already specified in the source code and quite happily consuming the first three to eight columns of each line? If it's not a language requirement, are my compile errors just a result of Flash Builder enforcing the convention?

That, and it seems regardless of what I try, I always get a "5001: The name of package '[package name]' does not reflect the location of this file..." error. This is my current directory structure:

and when I try to publish, I get the error:

I am dispatching an event from one document class and listening for it via another document class.My code in class A.

When I have a class linked to a MovieClip in my library and that class takes an argument in its constructor method. That class will compile properly ONLY when it's located in my top-level directory (same dir as the .fla and Document.as files). If I move that class to a deeper directory, say com.place, and update the package statement and symbol link appropriately, the compiler will generate error "1136: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected 0."Create flash project and put a rectangle on the stage. Covert it to symbol and assign it to class TestPanel - or whatever you choose. Also configure the fla so that is uses a Document (Main) class.Create Main.as and TestPanel.as in the same folder. In the Main class, instantiate a instance of TestPanel and add it to the stage. Flash will, predictably, add the rectangle symbol and everything is fine.Now modify TestPanel so that its constructor method takes a Number and have Main.as pass some number to TestPanel.[code]You now get the error: 1136: Incorrect number of arguments.Expected 0.When I move the TestPanel.as into a deeper directory, Flash somehow is looking elsewhere for the base class for Symbol, even though I'm mapping that Symbol to com.place.TestPanel.

I have a FLA (say Main.FLA) document class with a child MovieClip on the stage: into the child MovieClip I load other swf files: each of the files contains its own Document Class (every swf is a somewhat independent application, say quizzes and so on).For some reason I must use the Main document class to store data (scores or so) from the child swfs loaded into the Main swf. HOW do I reference the Main class? I can't find a way.[code]and dispatch an Event this way from the loaded swf document class to the Main class:[code]Now, first of all I don't know if this could even work. Secondly, I tried to make it work by adding an event listener to my Main class but id did not work.

I´m making a game and now I wonder if it´s good practice to have a class named Main for my game. I was thinking about to have a Preloader, Console and Game classes. Now I don´t know anymore. Maybe it´s better to have a Main class that loads including a preloader, which loads Console wich loads Game.
 
That´s the better way to making a game application? I´m talking about best practices.
 
why if yes there has to be a Main class that extends Sprite?

Using Flash CS5 Professional I have created a symbol, dragged it onto the stage, and given it an instance name of GreenLight1. If I want to make this visible from the document class, I can simply do the GreenLight1.visible=true; and poof it's good to go when I test the file. As long as I stay in the document class I am good to go, but now I'm trying to move to another class and hitting ALL kinds of trouble just trying to get Flash to allow me to access this simple object. All I am looking to do is have this GreenLight1 go invisible (visible=false) when a certain condition occurs in this new class and Flash just won't let me access GreenLight1 at all. Things I've tried thus far:

stage is passed to the class and is referenced by _stage and is working just fine when I do _stage.addchild or anything like that. So I have tried "_stage.GreenLight1.visible=false;" and I get "ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property GreenLight1 not found on flash.display.Stage and there is no default value." My document class extends Sprite, so I figured I'd try the root function. So I tried "Sprite(root).GreenLight1.visible=false;" and I get "1119: Access of possibly undefined property GreenLight1 through a reference with static type flash.display:Sprite." I tried to create the Resource class as described therein. To which I came across the same problem that I started with in that it doesn't know what GreenLight1 is to begin with so I got "1120: Access of undefined property GreenLight1." Here is my code for Resource.as (am I supposed to pass something to this class from the document class?)

I tried embedding the swf file (the game) into a program that has a similar class structure. When I run the program it loops every time i try to run the game. I have been working on creating a package of reusable code for myself. I frequently create projects that have a set of panels, which I re-skin for each particular project, and each panel has its own body of functionality.There are about 10 different panels that could be used in a given project, but not each panel is used in every project. Some projects use 5, some use 8, some 10 etc. My problem is that when migrating the panels to a new project, I don't nessicarily want to have every single panel in the library with appropriate exports etc. if it's not going to be used in the project.

For example

Trying to fix other peoples bad coding and I can not change the file structure but I would like to add a class directory and be able to reference it for buttons and variables. The problem is that the directory needs to be up 1 directory so that it can work with all the other files.

Is there a way I can load a swf file but not automatically instantiate it's DocumentClass? Instead I want to do something like the following:

Where mainLoad is an instance of CasaLib's SwfLoad and createClassByName is the equivalent to

I'm having some trouble with using a Document class in Flash CS3 that is an extension of another class. When I do this, I can no longer make references to MovieClips with instance names on the stage.Here's an example. I have a class called Minigame that extends MovieClip and then a class Shooter that extends Minigame. So the relationship looks like:MovieClip <-- Minigame <-- ShooterI want to use Shooter as my Document class in the Flash file Shooter.FLA. However, when I do this, I am unable to directly access any instance names of MovieClips on the stage of Shooter.FLA from Shooter.as. In other words, if I try to write the line:var mc:MovieClip = this.instanceName;in Shooter.as, I get the error:1120: Access of undefined property instanceName.
