Actionscript :: Download Multiple Large Files And Saving Locally - URLStream Or URLLoader?

Feb 17, 2011

This is absolutely driving me crazy. While I'm a fan of the availability of asynchronous calls in AIR, I'm finding that being forced to use them for something that should be SUPER simple is a severe limitation. So severe that I may end up abandoning AIR and writing native Android and iOS apps instead of using the shared AIR platform.

OK, now that I have that off my chest, here's what I'm trying to accomplish. I have an app that, when deployed, is relatively small. But once deployed to a user's device that user will log in using a login name/password. Once they log in, content specific to that user needs to be downloaded and saved to the local device. Since the content varies by user I can't include it in the package for deployment.

But I cannot figure out how to accomplish this: say I want to download 10 files and each file is 2-3mb and I want to show a "Downloading, please wait..." view during the download. The application cannot proceed until all 10 files are downloaded. But since from what I've seen URLStream and URLLoader are both async I cannot figure out how to block the app from opening the "View available content" and say on the "Downloading, please wait..." view.

Flash :: (as3) URLloader Keeping Connection Alive?

Feb 1, 2010

I have a little problem with a simple URLLoader,it simply just loads the data from an url, and processes that data, nothing complicated. But, when ever i run it, it leaves the connection open. At the bottom of the browser it says:

The data is read sucessfully, so it should close the connection? but doesnt seem to want to do it. Is there anyway to close all open connections, or somehow remove such message?

Flash - Determine Which URLLoader Failed Programamtically?

Jan 6, 2011

I'm developing a flash application that is getting information from a remote server using a URLLoader. I have a function that will create a request for information based on the product ID. When there is an error, I want to fall back to an alternate URL, but to create the alternate URL, I need to know the product ID. What is the best method to determine which URLLoader failed (and which product request failed) so that I can regenerate the new URL?

My functions are below:

function loadData(productID:String):URLLoader {
var productURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest("/path/to/product/" + productID);
var dataLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();

Actionscript 3 :: Flash - URLLoader Loads Last Data Again

Feb 7, 2012

In my app, I load multiple xml files. And to load those, I always create a new URLLoader. Nothing special. The first file works fine, the second one does, too. The third one, however, reports to have loaded fine, but the data it holds is actually the data of the second file. The current workaround is to load the third file twice, which somehow works... weird.

ActionScript 3.0 :: URLLoader Not Working In Any Browsers But Fine In The Flash IDE

Oct 14, 2009

I have a problem that seems very strange. A flash script is using URLLoader to update some records and send back a message. In the flash IDE there is no problem. However, when I upload to the server, or viewing the swf file locally in any browser, the browser just hangs and does not show anything. I have also added a IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR handler which does not give me any information. The URLloader is communicating with a php script. I have found out that it works with a .txt file. Is the anything that needs to be included in the php script?

Flash :: Chrome AS3 URLLoader Different Behavior On Network Error?

Jul 5, 2010

In Chrome upon network error, the event object in error handler is behaving differently than IE and flash player (i.e. directly running the swf, not from the browser). Consider the following test code :

private function loadData():void {
var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
loader.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, onError);[code]....

In IE and flash player, debugField shows error : Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: http:[url]... but in Chrome it is error : Error #2032That is URL is stripped from the text. Why this is differentany way to get the URL in error handler? Or is this a bug of Chrome itself?My Chrome version is 5.0.375.86

Actionscript 3 :: Flash Failing To Fire Any Events On URLLoader Sometimes?

Aug 10, 2010

I have an instance of URLLoader that works perfectly on my machine and a number of other machines, but in a few rare cases, regardless of the browser or the flash player version, URLLoader never comes back with any of my callbacks and so the load() method is fired off into the stratosphere and nothing happens beyond that.Curious if anyone else has encountered this and if so how they got around it.[EDIT]Ok... never mind on the "no callbacks are fired". In fact it is firing the SecurityError.SECURITY_ERROR. However, I'm at a total loss as to why it would only fire this on some machines and not on others. Does it have something to do with the user's admin privileges or the browser's security settings? The error is 2170, phaseTwo (whatever that means)

Flash :: Movie In Firefox Intermittently Load XML With URLLoader?

Jan 6, 2011

I have a Flash movie that behaves as follows:Movie loads > tries to load an XML file using URLLoader.load() > uses the data in the XML to load some images into the movie.The requirement was for updates to the XML file to be picked up within 10 minutes, so I have added a querystring parameter to the XML URL which is a timestamp to the nearest ten minutes, e.g.1-40**This all works for me as expected in IE and Chrome, and it works locally for me in Firefox. However, on our production server (IIS) in Firefox, the following behaviour occurs (by observing Firebug):First load:SWF loads > XML Requested and loads > images requested and loadSubsequent page loads:SWF Loads > no request for the XML (no request shown in Firebug)Firebug shows the following information about the XML file from the first successful request:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Wait Until URLLoader Finishes Loading?

Apr 13, 2011

I am trying to load the output of a php-file into some flash variables and then fill some textfields with those variables. But it seems like even though I have a completehandler it tries to fill the textfields before I get all the data.

Code:
function loadQuestion(){
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("the url to my php script");
request.method = URLRequestMethod.GET;
var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
loader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES;

Is it wrong of me to have the completeHandler inside the loadQuestion function? And is it wrong of me to assume that because I put the data in the textfields in the completeHandler it should w8 until its finished loading?

Actionscript 3 - Flash.net.URLLoader Get Body From 500 Internal Server Error?

Sep 20, 2010

I'm trying to streamline my error reporting for internal testing. When I use URLLoader/URLRequest to load a page that responds with the 500 HTTP status code, I catch it with the IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, but can't find a way to get the response body. Unlike with Event.Complete, loader.data (My URLLoader) is an empty string.

Yes, I can use Fiddler/Firebug to get the actual response, but this would be good to catch intermittent/hard-to-reproduce errors when I don't have these running.

Actionscript 3 :: Flash Player Breaks When Loading .csv File With URLLoader

Mar 25, 2011

I've made a little flash, with AS3, to view the data generated by some program I wrote... The data is in a .csv file and are loaded to the memory with a URLLoader object.

The flash loads well .csv files which can come to almost 50 MB in size... But when I try to load a file with 160 MB, the player just stop working... I run the last flash player version, outside of the browser...

I've heard that the Flash has limitations on the amount of memory it can store... But in another question, they say it has not.

What may be causing the crash? - I don't think it is the code, since it runs smooth for small files...

Professional :: Stop Caching URLLoader Accesses In Flash Development Environment?

Feb 25, 2010

I'm loading an external XML file when in the Flash development environment. ActionScript 3.0 (CS3) accesses the XML file using URLLoader. Everything is fine until I have to make changes to the XML file. When testing the Flash application while in the development environment, it does not see the changes I made to the XML file, because the URLLoader is somehow caching the results. Thus, the XML file looks exactly the same. This is very frustrating. Is there any way I can blow out this cache so that URLLoader is forced to load the XML file? Currently, I either have to re-start the Flash environment or change the name of the XML file.

Actionscript 3 :: URLLoader.load POST - Getting Http Status=0 And No Data. Works In Flash IDE

Jul 13, 2011

I am making rest calls with a urlload.load(urlRquest).

also
urlRequest.method = URLRequestMethod.POST;
urlRequest.contentType = "application/xml";

When I make the calls within the Flash IDE, I get HTTPStatusEvent.status = 400 (or whatever) when an error occurs. And the IOErrorEvent.data contains xml (or sometimes a string).

However, when I run the swf in a browser (Firefox Mac or PC), the HTTPStatusEvent.status = 0, and the IOErrorEvent.data is empty. (Interestingly in Safari Mac, I do get the 400 status, but still no data.)

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adobe Flash Player Has Stopped A Potentially Unsafe Operation URLloader URLrequest

Oct 29, 2011

I am working on a flash website that loads live inventory data from a public csv file publish by google docs.  the csv file is located at a public address on google docs server:[URL].. I am using a URLloader and URLrequest within my flash movie to grab this data and assign it to different variables.

It works great when I preview the movie in flash. However, when I go to publish the movie and preview the html file its loaded into in dreamweaver, I get a security warning from adobe flash player: Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation

I went ahead and published the html file that contains the swf file to the web, and when I go to my site, I don't even get the flash player warning; it just sits there like its trying to load the URLrequest and never completes.

I understand that flash player has a security measures that prevents flash files from accessing files outside of the server directory that the swf file is published to.  I know you can create policy xml files to tell flash it's okay to load the data, but those policy files have to be located on the public server from which the data is being grabbed. But it's not like I can waltz on to google's servers a stick a policy file in there!

Is there any way to tell the flash player it's okay to load this data without getting that security error?  I can't have the end user having to go into their flash settings and adding the location manually.  I just need it to work without the security warning.

Is there another method of loading data from an external server without tripping up flash player security? aka, something other than URLloader and URLrequest?

Flash :: Using An External Class With Multiple Frames On The Timeline And Multiple Stage Placed Buttons

Sep 21, 2010

I have a problem when making flash applications with more than one frame that has symbols placed on it in that I can't declare all of the event listeners for the objects at the same time and I have found that even if I put them all on the first frame, add the event listeners, then click through to the next frame then the buttons won't work on that frame.

Does anyone have any idea how I could solve this? I did consider myself a fairly competent AS3 programmer until I realised I had no idea how to handle this sort of thing. Solved: I initialised the clips from my external class and then addChild'd and removeChild'd them as I needed to and placed their x and y on addChilding.
